This is actually amusing as hell - some "revrunds" want to schedule a date for ...no murders:
- So rare are days without murder in Chicago that when one occurred in 2012, the news made national headlines. Now, a coalition of Chicago-area ministers, educators and parishioners wants to repeat that day.
The Thou Shalt Not Murder coalition is calling for a murder moratorium in Chicago on Easter Sunday, March 27 as part of an effort to curb gun violence.
Expressing outrage over the 488 homicides and 2,986 shootings in Chicago last year, the group assembled for a three-hour meeting Jan. 16 in the basement of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Chicago's South Side Beverly neighborhood. Organizers of the "Thou Shalt Not Murder" campaign included ministers from Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood neighborhoods.
Remember, these are the same people (or folks) who can't be bothered for pretty much 460 of the other murders that occur during the year. Just a little selective outrage when Grandma driving her gangbanging grandson catches a round or maybe when a 9-year-old gets executed or at selected police shootings. Now they want to schedule a "no-murder day."
We will arbitrarily set the over/under for Easter Sunday at 5 wounded, 2 dead. Place your bets at the window. The line may be adjusted for the weather as 27 March approaches.

In white neighborhoods all over this country they go 20, 30 and in some places 50 years without a murder on the street and these jackasses are asking for one day without a murder on the street. Welcome to the jungle. Welcome to what some accept as civilization. Welcome to the madness that they refuse to address and fix and instead blame everything on the police. This is what happens when people are allowed to follow the law of the jungle. If you want to be like the towns and cities across this country where murders never occur you will have to start obeying the law of the land, respect other people, their lives, their property and realize that the police are the only authority that can lawfully enforce the law.

What a brilliant idea these Doctors of Divinity and Doctors of Education have. Have the City issue calendar books, like the FOP and PB&PA handbooks to the populace. The calendars would indicate the dates you must refrain from violating the Illinois Complied Statutes or the M.C.C. in a specfic offense. As an example on 18 Feb- no 1st degree murders, 22 Apr-no residential burglaries, 6 Jun-no vehicular hijacking, 7 Aug-no domestic batteries, and so on. You have to let the populace know of what is required of them. Then if you have too many murders on specific dates you just ban murders on those dates in the next calendar year thereby reducing the murder rate!

Bet my farm that there will be less violence(okay, maybe a drunk or two, but not high on weed)induced violence than the Cinco De Mayo, or Bud Biliken parade. Being a cautious gambler I will leave out any Asian day parades/festivities.

29 years on the job...all in patrol-many of them on midnights......Easter and Thanksgiving weekends some of the busiest and most f##kd up....no murders on Easter Sunday, no way.
This initiative involves at least one church attended by many of us. Someone should forward these comments to the pastor.
I am glad I am not a cop. Living with this kind of crap would bother me. Anyway, sometimes you just have to smile, but this time around it is worth of a laugh owing to the pure folly.
Ummmm in my 20 plus years the department has never never never listened to the working police on how to combat gang issues. You see there are civilians running the department in co operation with big bosses at 35th and Michigan and they were never the working police, they just continued to go to school throughout their years on the department and obtain multiple degrees and most of them are political merit supervisors. So you see this is why our department does not know how to address the gang issues. However it's only a part of the issue to a bigger picture. It's going to be a bloody year.

Comical that the stats for last year are already starting to decrease. The article has already "forgotten" about 15 murders. "Official" tallies put murders at 503 for 2015.

Gun violence. It's always "gun" violence. Because if they called it "gang" violence, well, that would point the finger at...gasp!...people (using the term generously.) In this time of political correctness it's more acceptable to blame an inanimate object than it is the person.

Yeah, give 'em two months advance notice and maybe they can manage to hype it and publicize it SO much, it'll actually happen.
But, really -- how PITIFUL is this thuggy segment of society, that you have to beg, give two months' notice, and still you're betting the long shot, that (on Easter Sunday, no less) you can schedule 'no murders for 24 hours?

There's no guidance or discipline in the home. The family situation is so unstable; 'Junior' doesn't even know where to send a Father's Day card. Junior gets dumped into the education system where he is socially promoted because the overwhelmed school district can't deal with the undisciplined whelp. Junior's major formative influences are 'gangsta' rap videos and a corresponding peer group of gangsta wannabes.
At age 18, Junior is turned loose on society carrying a bad attitude, a broken compass and no respect for authority. Junior gets himself in big trouble with the law because he is illiterate, unskilled, unemployable and his only source of income other than Government assistance is illegal and meets dire consequences. Then, the situation diagnosis is that the police need more training, compassion, sensitivity and understanding?
