The most recent Budget Hearings featured city Bean Counter relating the paying police officers working overtime was more 'cost efficient' then hiring more officers. Rahm, do you require your Budget Office 'bean counters' to attend the funerals of kids killed since you cut staffing at the CPD?

Off topic I know, but the police in Miami are attempting to get sworn officers to boycott working Beyoncé's upcoming performance there due to her anti police, pro black panther performance at the Super Bowl. When she comes to Chicago later this year no one and I repeat no one working for any police department should work her show. I know that many of us live from paycheck to paycheck, we have bills, Catholic school tuitions etc, but take a stand and don't take blood money to protect this police hating beyotch.
Take it a step futher....I blame the Black Lives Matter movement and their protests. While CPD had taken 9 lives last year, 399 black lives were lost due to gang/gun violence. And now the city of Chicago will see double that amount of lives killed, based on the current numbers for 2016.
While these protesters vilify the CPD and it's officers, they continue to ignore the #1 cause of death of Black lives in Chicago. The police are not killing our kids...THE KIDS ARE KILLING EACH OTHER.
The constant scrutiny and reforms implemented by the Emanuel administration, has left officers in Chicago less aggressive on policing our streets. The "we got your back" promises from those who are in charge, is not working to help the moral of these officers.
This is when the people of Chicago need to step-up and show support for the officers of the CPD, AND WE PLAN TO DO SO......

For a variety of reasons, civil authorities and the media are not eager to share their crime statistics. Evans often has to turn bloodhound to sniff them out. The numbers he has dug up in Chicago seem to affirm his grim thesis. In late November, prosecutors released an inflammatory video of a white Chicago police officer shooting and killing a knife-wielding 17-year-old named Laquan McDonald.
The media responded with its typical mania. The community rose up as prompted. And as always, the criminals seized the day. Twice as many Chicagoans were shot in January 2016 as in January 2015, and the number of murders surged 50 percent.
Evans likes to quote socialist author Upton Sinclair on the subject of human intransigence. Said Sinclair more than a century ago, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." Apparently, not much has change since.
The leaders of the vestigial civil rights movement, certain elected officials and many in the media have a vested interest in depicting cops as racist and/or reactionary even in cases like Ferguson where the police shooting was justified or in Baltimore where three of the six "killer" cops were black. More than just their salary, their self-love hinges on their enlightened concern for the black underclass.
The last thing these people want to hear is that their myopic attachment to a largely bogus narrative is killing the very people they claim to protect.

I'm new to CPD, currently out of impact (waste of time). I was a former employee of the juvenile detention center in cook county. I'm extremely frustrated with how society has transformed into this new PC society. No longer are juveniles held accountable for their actions, and are given a pass beacuse there brains aren't fully developed (BS). Juveniles /young adults are the main individuals responsible for majority of the shootings in the city, and frankly accros the country. Moving on too Cook County jail, many inmates are being let out and back to the streets. They too are given a pass beacuse of ( mental health) issues. The system is flawed (obviously). Then you have citizens who complain about the police, but won't hesitate to call for the dumbest incidents. Officers don't wake up and say " hey I'm going to kill someone today", many gangs members do. They plot and scheme then pray on people, then they have a ban encounter with Law enforcement. We are then vilified. With these new policies in all levels of the justice system (justice reforms), society is in for a rude awaking. This summer is going to be bloody. The ACLU effect has not even resonated in the communities yet. Many gang members are not aware of the new changes, nor aware we have to provide them with a receipt. Once they figure this out, all hell is going to break loose. We are deffinently in a new age of policing. People who commit crimes are ( not responsible) for their actions "mental health" is too blame. Many innocent people will suffer from these changes. This is what the people want,and this is what they will shall receive. The new culture has made the job in some respect easier. I took an oath to serve and protect, I will do so by answering calls and doing paper, I will protect my family, fellow officers (backup), pension and children (innocent). Please stay safe, as this will be an interesting summer.

In principle, I totally agree. It's fine for overtime initiatives or private security firms using sworn officers, but there's not much you can do if it's your normally assigned workday tour of duty.

I agree with you. My niece lives in Lake County and I owed her a birthday dinner, and she chose today to collect on the offer. I drove to Lake County and took her out. It would kill me if something happened to her because she came into the city. My fifty eight dollars went to Lake County tonight.

What exactly is Tom Darts qualifications for house arrest? We just had a guy cone through our lockup with a Sheriff EM bracelet. He is a covicted murderer with 38 arrests at the ripe age of 32. The Sheriff put him on EM with a new burglary charge. This is crazy.

Maybe your right. But do something about it. Don't wait for someone else to investigate. Get the ball rolling yourself. File FOIA request on test scores, get an attorney etc.... Otherwise be quiet.
So what is the real story of the arrest of 4 people in the murder of Cary Silverstein. It happened in Dec 2015 and he was reported missing. We all know the department doesn't willingly want to add to the murder totals so what caused them to get interested in that case?

They quietly increased the salary of the president and the field reps up two pay grades w/o telling the membership. They took the same monthly stipends that the trustees get and took committee fees for the same time they were already on the clock. When two officers asked at the mic at a general meeting to look at the financial books they got thrown out of the union.
When Shields won his election it thru a monkey wrench into their plans for a permanent ruling class. But Shields made a critical mistake and kept many of them on a field reps. They bid their time and subverted him, the union, and all of the membership. Shields may not have been ready for prime time but he could have been mentored instead of being under cutting. The coup that removed Shields was wrong in how it was done. The State Lodge has settled with Shields and the Chicago Lodge is in court now. The cabal numbered about a dozen but about six were in the inner core. The question is, do we ever want any of them back in control again?
