Claiming a "Tie"
When Rahm publicly cuts off your balls and waves them around for everyone to see, you pretty much only have two courses of action - (A) shut up and lick your wounds or (B) claim that you meant to give Rahm your nuts and you're actually happy that he took them.

Neither caucus endorsed the mayor’s surprise choice of Eddie Johnson, the Chicago Police Department’s African-American chief of patrol who once served as Gresham District commander.
But both the Black and Hispanic caucuses had pressured the mayor to choose someone from inside the CPD to boost police morale and restore community trust shattered by the police shooting of Laquan McDonald.
That allowed Black Caucus Chairman Roderick Sawyer (6th) and Hispanic Caucus Chairman George Cardenas (12th) to claim at least partial credit for the mayor’s surprise decision to drop frontrunner Cedric Alexander, the African-American public safety director of DeKalb County, Ga., in favor of Johnson, an insider.
Riiiight. Rahm picked an insider because you insisted....an insider who didn't even apply for the job and who therefore didn't have anyone in his corner pushing for him.
The only guy pushing for him was...Rahm.
Which means he owes exactly one person...Rahm.
So now the amusing end game because, "Who the hell is going to apply for a done deal?"

- Now that Mayor Rahm Emanuel has gone around his handpicked Police Board to anoint Chicago’s next police superintendent, why even go through the motions of another costly and time-consuming nationwide search?
And even if the mayor’s dissed Police Board appointees agreed to spend more of their time and energy doing a second search to give the mayor legal cover, who would even bother to apply?

Johnson was not "in the running", so no Alderman or "Caucus" can claim any ties (or clout) to his promotion.
Same old, same old........Aldermen are just a rubberstamp.
Selection board - created to appease a lot of people - no power in their "final three" selection.
All sounds legit to me. (Well, as legit as you are going to get in Chicago.)

Glad you brought this up. Lightfoot would be an idiot to continue being on the police board. If she stays on, it's for the easy money, which means she is a political hack like the rest of them. Have some integrity, Lightfoot, and resign now.
This is why Milwaukee Co sheriff Dave Clarke is too good and too smart to even consider wading into the slime of Chicago politics. Sheriff Clarke is the real deal and does not suffer fools quietly. God bless him.

No FOIA request asking RAHM when he looked at EDDIES resume and what his interview questions said after the other were posted online.

Our city is increasingly taking on the the culture, politics, sectarian divides of Beirut Lebanon.
Lebanon was part of France up through the 1950s I believe. Maronite Christians were the majority and running most things up through the mid 1960s (again that's just what I remember) then the demographics changed, same as Chicago. All sorts of groups (Druze, Islamic Sunni and Shiite) started to insist on their group getting positions like police chief, defense minister, finance minister etc.
There was sectarian war in the 1980s I don't think these terrible wars ended until Syria's Assad forces invaded and occupied Lebanon. Israel invaded Lebanon to try to take out the PLO in I think it was the late 1980s.
Ok, does this #*&$*# sound familiar? Our Chicago is getting this way and since "we" are in the minority we should study how Maronite Christians in the minority held on, prospered, made alliances as best they can. Tony Rezko (sp?) one of Obama's $ backers is from this Lebanese community.

Every exempt will be told to apply. Former exempts will be enlisted to apply as shills. The Board, led by a disgruntled, but handsomely compensated Lightfoot, will go through the motions and Johnson will be one of the three names the Board forwards to TD 9.5 and, unless Johnson runs naked around City Hall in the near future or a really negative story about him pops, such as a secret baby Momma, Johnson will be officially named Superintendent of Police.
