Merit Pensions on the Block?

Forwarded to us by someone who knows what "tweets" are:

Nickeas, from what we've read, is a pretty good reporter. He plays fair, quotes accurately, and tells the unseen side of crime scenes too many other reporters don't. He is also NOT related to the Nickeas was is/was on the job. If he's hearing something like this that has bandied about on the blog for years, that could lead to some interesting times.

Never gonna happen, never, they will destroy us to save their un-earned money.

Scc, Don't be impressed too much by Nickeas. Heard from his own mouth, prior to Glen Evans' exoneration, that he couldn't wait til Evans got what he deserved for the abuses he committed for sticking the gun in the accusers mouth. Fair and unbiased? No. Don't be bamboozled. Seems like another lefty trying to "make" the news and not reporting the news fairly. As the media was intended to do.

You mean all the butt kissing, toadying, and covering up for the clouted clowns might be for naught?

BAWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Take it a step further, the clouted that make merit det, , then merit Sgt , then merit Lt, then merit commander, will be pensioned off at earned rank= PO. It would still be fair because you will be receiving the top salaries for yrs worked.

FOP's been talking seriously about this for a year and a half. But with the log jam in Springfield nothing is going nowhere. If the governor's candidates lose in this election maybe they can this up for at least a vote.

The City will fight this even thou it would save the pension fund money because it is the big carrot.. Its the biggest way to control exempts for four years and they have to toe the company line.

Love to see some merit A-hole make 1st deputy and leave with a patrolman's pension.

I've heard this rumor a couple of times. I wouldn't put any stock in it. The only way this would change if there is a change in our pensions.

BTW Nickeas does a decent job but knows where his bread is buttered. He's not about to jeopardize his employment with the Fibune.

As it should be.

Makes sense to me. Also would probably lead to better supervision if 4 time merit picks dont have anything to gain but another promotion they will probably stay in their administrative role and hopefully real leadership will want to spend a few years trying to make substantive changes.

DO IT, DO IT, DO IT! In other cities this is done, the last achieved rank by competitive exam is what you pension out at. CPD is top heavy with Gold Braids that turn into Gold Braid Pensions. Case in point, the Mayor's Detail. The last "Commander" of that detail under Stumble and Mumble Daley, started his illustrious career as a Police Aide in the lock-up in 009, his Ward of origin, Bridgeport. So he was close enough to go home to Mamma Mia for lunch, when Little Sammy got hungry, which based on his "Girth" was often! Then to Mass Transit, as an absolute lump of do-nothing, and then to the Mayor's Detail, where he was heavy enough to push out Keating when given the opportunity. Now retired with a Gold Braid, he never had to take a promotional exam, which he would have probably failed! Just one of many Hacks and Do Nothing Ass Kissers who got and get Gold Stars. F%&K them! They are an insulting drain on the pension. And I guarantee if this is enacted, Gold Star Punks will be stepping over each other to Retire Early. Baby"G"

I don't know where he came up with this, but absolutely untrue. This has not come up either at the pension board or the legislature.

That change would save pension fund .
It means over 30% of sergeant , lieutenant , captain and 90% of exempt rank would receive a patrolman salary .
What's taking so long ?
They could still invest big salary in 401k plan . It is a gift for loyalty , cover ups .
This is a plan that every rank should vote on and pension representatives should push for .

If i'm reading this right and it put's all pensions to their last tested rank that will save a lot of money in the long hall. That would put 95% of exempts back to a patrolmen's pension. That is great.

Finally someone looking into these years of theft by the clouted with the gold stars, who are given stars like back in the sheriff elrod days just passing them out to friends and political sponsors for eventual payback! Are they looking into the mayor rahms detail guys getting sergeants/commanders pension? This also needs to be eliminated. Not mad at the exempts getting huge pieces of the taxpayers pie, while in that rank they can bank the cash but pension at Lieutenant that would be a breath of fresh air and "change we can believe in!"

Insanity how this works, how many extra gold stars do we have? how many retire and come back to a 6 figure do nothing payday? Finally Mike Lappe and Kenny Hauser standing up for the proper ways, stop the pension raid so the 9161 hard working street coppers can get their fair share! The gold star club, free cars, free to do whatever they want, and free to double scoop pensions as they leave and get other 6 figure government jobs in many different agencies!

This should have been looked into a long time ago FOP needs to seek a end to it from the pension board, and in contract talks with the city there are so many that do not deserve to collect these huge pension because they are entitled.

Better check it out I think D2 positions/pensions are part of Gold Braid Bill maybe that is why it is never revisited by FOP. Detectives, E.T., Canine all retiring at parolmans pension.

Hey all that would work for helping the burden on the pension but why is no one concerned over the lack of current funding for the pension fund. Whatever happened to th $550 million due by Jan 1, 2016 now pushed off till a first quarter payment and then recently informed by Lappe no payment till Dec 31, 2016 !! All this waiting for SBB 777 to go thru, don't hold your breathe on that. Why isn't the FOP on top of this and taking the City to court now and demand a payment be made. My prediction is 9.5 does not want to give a dime and fight this all out in court for years and in the mean time the fund tanks. We need to look out for for our future as well as our current situation. FOP being silent on it all scares me that they know something we all don't.

Concerning 'cannot be impaired or diminished':

A little Originalism applied to Illinois Constitution may work wonders.

Laws that enhance certain pensions to the point that the whole system becomes unsustainable are 'unconstitutional'.

Also, 'equal protection' does not apply to laws designed to favor certain ranks at the expense of everyone else.

My partner is trying to get her children on the job. They want the $90,000 after five years and pension, other benefits. Not interested in serve and protect, already looking to swerve and neglect. Kids are C students, so this is the best they could do. Somehow I think they are the rule, not the exception these days. If the pension truly collapses, and it may, a lot of people will be crying. It might, this state isn't getting any better. The whole thing could fall apart in ten years.

Maybe not, in this case, since the gold braid pension was enacted separately (like the cola being extended separately every five years).

It's theirs, regardless.
BUT, anyone being promoted above lieutenant AFTER it changes wouldn't be eligible.
