Why? Why? Why?

  • Two people were killed and 19 others were wounded over 20 hours in Chicago from Tuesday through early Wednesday, the equivalent of someone shot every 58 minutes.

The period was more violent than the entire previous weekend — when one person was killed and 14 wounded — and ranged across the city, from the Northwest Side to downtown to the Far South Side.

The burst of violence included three shootings in the area of 63rd Street and Sacramento Avenue within two hours that left a man dead and three others wounded, including two 16-year-old boys. Five miles away, in the Gresham neighborhood, four people were shot in three incidents.

The number of shootings and homicides in the city is more than double what it was the same time last year as Chicago experiences its most violent start of a year since the late 1990s. More than 500 people have been shot since the first of the year, and more than 100 of them have been killed.
Depending on the mood, we might also answer, "Rahm! Rahm! Rahm!"

Or "ACLU! ACLU! ACLU!" But then we have to explain to the slower-witted about ISR's, handcuffing the police, lawsuits, DOJ investigations, physics, trajectories, "meri-clout-orious" promotions and it just gets all involved.

Manpower is so low that it's fricken scary! CPD has also drastically cut the number of officers they use for the violence reduction overtime. The fact is the program works but they need more bodies ASAP! The rookies aren't on foot anymore like last year either. The brass better crank up the VRI OT manpower or the violence will sky rocket. When there's police cars on every corner it makes a huge difference.

This pretty much sums it up as to why...

"...She was soon surrounded by people trying to sort things out: Where was the woman’s young child? Which family members knew? Could anyone see if there were bullet holes in the car? How old was she? Could her loved ones retaliate without going straight to jail? How long would it take for her parents to get to Stroger Hospital from the South Side? ..."

When you have to answer questions like these, there is a breakdown in your culture. My favorite is "can her loved ones retaliate without going to jail?". No more need be said.

No worries! Once more data is collected and examined, the school-to-prison pipeline is disassembled, restorative justice programs are put in place, and institutional racism is discussed and corrected, all of these problems will be solved.

When I left in 2010, we had legit 13,451 sworn officers total...this I know. Rahm cut 1250 out of budget, since 2010 we are averaging 300-400 officers a year retiring, and how many has he hired in the last 5 yrs...300??. We are legit down 2000-2500 from 5yrs ago. Crime up...Thats reason number one. Reason Two....ACLU. When the ACLU comes knocking on you're door you tell them to go fuck themselves...their never going to be happy and sue you anyway, so don't give them nothing. Rahm, Gary, and Senator Kwame whatever his name is is to blame for that. Those are the two major reasons crime is up. Merit Supervisors....maybe, but a good Officer knows how to get around them. Stay safe...

I'm retired. Spent much of the last half of my career as a dick. Before that my partner and I were aggressive cops who made a lot of stops and a lot of arrests. I could not imagine making a street stop under current conditions unless I had pc to arrest the person. With these ISRs and current climate and lack of respect for the police its a no win situation. The public has the police department it wants. Answer your jobs. Stay safe. Don't get sued. Make it to retirement. Maybe the pendulum will swing when crime gets bad enough but I doubt it.

And all of those things listed adds up to sinking morale. These slimy liberal politicians use the police as their scapegoat and they themselves take the credit when something good actually happens. Stay safe and fetal officers.

Sworn po's are down the about the 1250 that were written out of the budget.
As far as 300 recruits in the last five years. Not a chance the academy almost always has a class in it.
Number of sworn personnel on the CPD is not a big secret and a conspiracy. You can check CLEAR and find the exact number, you can check with the Pension Board and they will tell you how many are paying into the pension and both those figures are a little over 12,200. FOP also has the figures of the po's paying union dues or fair share, dont know that figure because it only includes po's below the rank of sgt.
Pension board figures have no reason to lie as they would have to account for the money for each po and CLEAR figures have a name next to each number.

People have been screaming about the manpower shortage for many years but nothing has been done. The city better increase the overtime manpower ASAP or it's going to be a very bloody summer.
