It's Almost Like....Like...

  • Yet another Wrigleyville business has reported that burglars broke in and stole money from its automatic teller machines. It's the fourth business along Clark Street to report an ATM burglary since December.

The targeted ATMS are built into storefronts so passers-by can withdraw money from the street.

The owner of Yak-Zies bar, 3710 N. Clark, called police around 9:30 Saturday morning after he discovered both of his ATMs had been damaged inside the business, which is currently closed for renovation.
But weren't the residents of 019/023 promised that no coverage would be lost when those districts were combined? They should have something like 500 cops assigned to that stretch of city. What happened?

-------------
The same thing that happened in 12. When the merger of 12 and 13 was announced (Nov 2011) there were a total of 532 officers in the two districts. A year later there were 498. We are now down to 315. On 1st Watch, many times we can't man all of our beat cars. Unlike 019 where the aldermen withheld their votes on the property tax increase until Tiny Dancer promised 35 officers this year, our 7 aldermen have been mute on the issue.

Business owners need to better secure their premises, and ATM machines. It is not the police's job to protect businesses, just to investigate crime and apprehend criminals.

Yes, SCC, remember how AlderCreature Tunney promised that there would be no reduction in coverage? Several high profile incidents have proved him wrong. And on Saturday, residents in Wrigleyville were looking for sticky buns when a contractor cut down trees to enable another Cubs expansion project. Time to start looking for a viable candidate to replace this clown that only worries about the Pride Parade staying in Boystown.

Why do you need police coverage?
It's not like the Thugs and Bangers can just drive to your neighborhood.
You are perfectly safe. Those other neighborhoods need the police.

When they were given that promise McGoofy and Rahm's noses visibly grew..... and the lapdog media lapped it up and didn't question anything.
Do you think that would ever happen to the "community"??

Ppos go south and west. If they do come here they are shipped off after probation. There are not enough sgts either. I know guys complain that why make more white shirts but has anyone looked at the sheets recently??? We had to call another district to have one of those sgts approve some pending case reports because our one Sgt was tied up in the hospital with a serious injury to. P.o. And we had absolutely no supervision on the street. How can you have one Sgt in the street???? Spend money, hire more officers and increase the budget for both officers and sgts.

016 hasn't merged with anyone but we also have lost almost 1/3 of our officers in the last 7 years. They love to compare our manpower with the past 3 years but won't go beyond that because that's when the biggest drop in manpower took place. We cover 30 square miles and sometimes only have 12 beat cars on 1w (some are 99 units). And you wonder why crime is up in 016?

Now he is the chief of Numbers and tells us we need to utilize our resources better. More Kool-Aid please!!!!

Can I suggest "Crime Free Zone" signage declaration making crime illegal in the community. Maybe they can put stickers of burglars in ski masks in a red circle with a red slash through the portrait declaring a burglar free zone. Or perhaps community flyers with an affirmative neighborhood mission statement proclaiming intolerance for burglars. Laugh but this stuff works.

Look at the successes with gun free zones. This is the future of crime reduction strategies. Stickers and signage have prevented numerous crimes as evidenced by available statistics. Signs prevent crimes which free up police for positive community interactions and the associated Comstat driven event numbers.

You're looking at this wrong.
It isn't "not enough cops," it's
actually one of Rahm's beloved
"achieving efficiencies" that
McLawEnforcementGypsy helped
him with...

Rahm and his advisors are alleged
to be actively reducing CPD
headcount to a more "manageable"
5000 officers. (Houston, TX is alleged
to be a benchmark because it's
population count is similar to Chicago's
and it's P.D. has that number of officers)

You taxpayers seeing YOUR paid for Police
Presence intentionally diminished and given
over to the "We Get Shit Somebody Else
Is Paying For Cuz We Loud an' Vote
Democratic" parts of town...

Getting angry and fighting back for
what was rightfully yours is RACIST
according to the current Chicago
narration...

Everything centers on keeping the ones who
pay the freight from getting a fair shake because
they might actually gain their footing and re-take
this town.

See what being "tolerant" and
"accommodating" has gotten you?

Just sayin'...

See?
"Efficiency..."

Tie yourself to someone else's
benchmark while ignoring the
conditions specific to YOUR
patch o' dirt.

It's the "progressive" thing to do...

Police like you have no friends.

Keep paying the property tax increases as long as alderpersons are being stroked under their desk with a promise of more police officers in their ward if they vote for the increase. Have any districts seen any increase? I didn't think so. Oh, let's not forget the alder persons just voted for for a $9,00 + tax on garbage removal for each house in the city from streets and sanitation each month to be added to your "water and sewer" bill, We have 22 police districts but 50 alderpersons . . . ??? Can we cut those in half??? We would save how many millions ? ? ?

Want more police ? You know they'll only be racists, right? Why would you want more racist police?
Anyway, more patrols are not coming. But on the other hand,
we would like to accommodate your desire for a safe and prosperous neighborhood but Your Mayor tied our hands.

Mom in 019 here. My family and I are grateful to our officers. But our idiot alderman and our idiot neighbors who re-elected him are bringing criminals into the neighborhood with the various social programs that don't work and then refuse any responsibility when crime spikes. I've recently purchased my first firearm and will be getting my concealed carry permit soon. Of course, I can't tell anyone either thing and have to carefully instruct my kids not to, as well. Wouldn't want their friends' moms getting the vapors. My husband and I are working on our exit strategy from Illinois. I left 019 about two years ago. While there are many citizens who line the police, many are young, clueless people who do not like the police. They don't like when policecarsspeex down the street, or if police don't get out of the car quickly enough when there is a fight in N arestaurant or on the street or in a bar( I was 99 waiting for backup). They just drive around, not giving the right away for police,. One time I was in foot guarding a crime scene, ayuppie almost runs me down, going to her parking spot. I jumped out of the way,she ran over and destroyed evidence. That's just a small idea of how it is. Pedestrian and vehicular traffic is so heavy you can't get wanywhere either.

---------

Guy on a Bike from Finance here. I'll chime in on this one:

I've lived in 019 since '02 when I moved to Chicago.

The 43rd Ward portion isn't too bad. Former Alderwoman and current one do a pretty good job in keeping the police supported. When 23 & 19 were merged we def noticed a decline in the frequency of seeing the Beat Cars due to the probable increase in the individual beats footprints. We also noticed the decline of frequency in seeing 2 PO marked squads as opposed to the wagons and unmarkeds. From what I understand, 32nd & 46th and 47th Wards are still primarily populated with pro-police as the majority of residents. The anti-police denizens can Kiss my ass TBH. 44th Ward is a shithole regardless of what area it is. Tommy boy only wants coverage for Street Cleaning and the Entertainment areas, and if he had his way, I wouldn't be surprised if he would get the district to only cover 44th and to hell with the other 4 wards that fall under 019 as it is currently set up (I believe it's Fullerton to Lawrence and Lake Michigan to the Chicago River.). Now the part of 019 that falls into 1st Ward is a mix up of pro-police and mouthbreathers. Not sure off hand what wards are in beats 1911 & 1921, but I think it's 40 or 47.

Now, as the official PITA Finance guy, 99% of my encounters with on duty CPD in this district have been positive. As for the 1% drift, I am of the personal opinion that not everyone is at 100% every shift and deserve a pass if they are in a less than 100% professional mode. I'll stand by that even if I'm on duty or not on duty and just look like everyone else does in civilian clothes. I get pulled over, I don't flash my city ID and I don't even carry that or my worthless Finance badge if I'm not working because damnit, if I get pulled over I probably did something stupid to get your official notice or hey, there might be a BOLO for my make/model vehicle and damn I might actually fit the description of someone driving a Jeep Wrangler.

You guys have enough shit to deal with daily to not catch flack from non-criminal douchebags just because oh hey, you needed to write a Parker for activity to keep the Beat Sgt or Lt off your ass.

One side note: I am moving out of 019 April. I'm moving into my new house in Jeff Park in 016 and potentially will be permanently detailed to Only work in 016, 017 & 025 until I retire or get fucking lucky and get promoted or into a different department (Jesus I need out of this fucking job!). Maybe drift into 020 or 024 depending on my mood for the month.

Be safe, cya, and please be nice if you run into me while I'm working. I don't get to Stay Fetal.
