Here's the article we referenced yesterday marking the 1,000th shooting victim this year:
- The number of people shot in Chicago so far this year has already passed 1,000, a grim milestone as gun violence in the city continues at a pace not seen since the 1990s.
The city reached that dubious mark Wednesday, six to nine weeks earlier than in the previous four years, according to data compiled by the Tribune.
The day saw one 14-hour stretch in which 13 people were shot, including a 4-year-old boy hit in the foot as he walked with his mother in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. In the nearby Austin police district alone, four people were injured in three shootings during the day.
The 1,000th gunshot victim appeared to be a 16-year-old boy who was wounded in the knee shortly before 4 p.m. near 131st Street and Champlain Avenue in the Altgeld Gardens public housing complex on the Far South Side.

Who cares? Not the communities that this is predominantly occurring in. So I will therefore collect my check and pension (one day God willing) while they kill each other blaming the invisible bad "blue" guy. Until the community blames the right people for their main problems (themselves) we need to protect ourselves from the political agenda and the possible stray bullet. Officers are finding defective and rusted bullets in what we are issued.from what we hear that is why qualifications have stopped. So far we have 23 homicides for April 2016.... In April 2015 we had 39 homicides. Unless something drastic happens.. With 2 or 3 days of colder weather coming and some rain in the forecast look for the decrease to hit pretty big this month. Beginning of March we were up in homicides about 105 percent over last year, now we are only up 54 percent over last year. So the let the city burn folks out there, sorry maybe next year.
The funny (in a sad way) thing is that after record breaking violent crime we still don't have any real plan to follow to address this. McCarthy has been gone since early December, and five months later-no plan. There is no pressure in my "fast" district for activity of any kind. No hazard movers, curfews, arrests, ANOVs, impounds-nothing. The tact teams chase the radio for the most part with few self initiated arrests. The "we've got your back" tour featuring Rham and various exempts seems to have come to an end. It's as if the word has come down from the Mayor's Office to lay off and stay fetal. Rham probably figures these black bosses will protect him from any serious criticism from the community activists, aldermen and the media. The cynic in me thinks his plan for self preservation is going to work. I guess there is a plan after all.......LOL!

At this point, I am more concerned about my taxes going up $1,000 rather than 1,000 assholes getting shot... Let's get into some real talk... How many of those 1000 people had their own health insurance than government insurance?, how many had a job?, how many lived in asshole districts and not single digit districts?, it would be a miracle if more than 5% of them had a college degree. I always carried factory ammo that I had purchased from a reputable dealer. I left the department issued ammo (purchased from lowest bidder) in the drawer for next years qualification. This was re-enforced after retirement by the range master in Will County several years ago. He said quality control at even high quality manufacturers was not what it should be because of high demand. Sure enough when I started examining ammo at the time of purchase I would periodically find ammo with no primer, no primer seats or primers seated to far into the bullet.
My advice is to use the best ammo that you can find and examine every round before loading it in your weapon. The life you save may be your own.

You are right I did 29 and a day,am 55 got healthcare 3 kids out of house,paid off house,paid off cars,no credit card bills that is the only way to retire! Oh forgot put as much as you can into deferred comp I am in fixed can take out $1,425.00 month before tax and not harm principle if needed! You will never find another job that pays you this well, i picked up part-time 2 days a week $26.00 and hour, retirement is great as long as you make sure your ready!

The problem is so many don't plan. I am currently at 311 due to a back injury and I can't believe how many coppers I talk to down there who are stripped and pending termination and I ask them what their plan "B" is if they get fired. They all look at me like I am speaking Arabic to them. None of them have a plan for tomorrow if they lose this job. None are retraining for another career knowing they very well might lose their jobs at any time.
I hate to say this about my colleagues on CPD but most cops are morons who can't plan past this Friday (forget about next Friday). Even a guy who is 29 years OTJ, getting ready to go in a year. But do NOT presume to comment on Rick Francis and his reasons for staying on the job. His reasons were sound. He was doing EXACTLY what he needed to do for himself and his family.

Please confirm a story on NBC news. Police chasing armed robbers from the McDonald's on Irving Park Road, curb the vehicle and pull the female driver out by her hair. There were 2000 detective positions but how many were actual working, functioning detectives?
SCC, that '1000' is probably a lot higher. Many years ago the CPD decided not to follow the FBI uniform code of crime reporting in an effort to down play the "actual" numbers of people shot. For example: If four people are shot and one dies as a result of the incident, the CPD only counts it as ONE homicide, and the three others who were shot are essentially erased from the equation, thus removing three aggravated batteries from Chicago's crime statistics. Now if four people are shot and no one dies in the same incident, it is still COUNTED as only ONE incident (And ONLY one shooting), again favoring Chicago's crime statistics by not accurately depicting that four people were actually shot.
Years ago the FBI stopped accepting the Chicago P.D.'s statistics on crime, knowing full well Chicago was, and IS, covering up its crime statistics by IMPROPERLY reporting criminal incidents, directly and purposefully disregarding the FBI's crime reporting procedures.
