A reminder to ensure your educational records are current.

Promotional class on the way.

Sergeants at least, so they're on the street before summer.

Lieutenants, so there are three per watch per the DOJ "recommendations."

A final Detectives class? No one knows.

So....are they hiring anyone?

Round two of Gene Williams descendent's coming. Don't be shocked to see more Neanderthals turn brainiacs.on the list. Word is someone from downtown was tired of see all non-black supervisors on television standing around crime scenes in prodominately black areas. The only way to change this was to ensure that a good number of blacks were promoted. With that said, NOBLE became the driving force to pull this off. Gene Williams jumped on board, because a man with only several months before mandatory retirement has nothing to loose.

Wow 3 Lts per watch? That means that they can each have a whole lot of extra time off. Back in t h e day when you had 2 working 1 would have an extra day off but the same guys would want to bang you for coming 10 minutes late.
Spend all that extra money for more PO's and I really don't know why we train our recruits so long when the burbs train for 12 weeks and still get state certified. Could it be that the city gets big federal funds, why not give them the hands on training on the street. God knows the extra time in the academy is not that productive.

There is absolutely no reason for 3 Lts to be assigned to each watch. That just means it will definitely happen. It makes no sense, costs a bunch of money, involves promoting more people who don't deserve it and/or cheated to get it, and the feds say it's what we need. This is Chicago. Those things all but guarantee it will happen. Shit, let's promote more captains while we're at it too, so they can play junior commander. Maybe we can get a few more deputy chiefs too. How about co-supernintendos? The more ridiculous and wasteful it sounds, the more likely it'll happen here.

The DSS system was a vindictive move by Rahm and McGoofy.
Rahm was really pissed that the Sgt.'s won their grievance so he had McGoofy come up with an order that forced the old desk Sgt. position to now be DSS and do the old desk Sgt. work plus W/C work yet get no extra pay.

During the CAPS roll out in the 90's they had watch operation lieutenants in Austin. No captain. The commander would put one lieutenant in change but bottom line each has equal rank and would not always work well together. You need consistent and clear chain of command. Do you need three (or 2 with a watch commander) field lieutenants on all watches? Only if you plan to have a full complement of sergeants working. A lieutenant logging 2 sergeants is stupid and a waste. On mid-nights a captain and one lieutenant works out just fine.

I have a lot of other things going on and I can't spend all day everyday studying so basically I'm screwed. I'm going up against people who already know what is on the test.

Realistically, the Sergeants run the field operations in the districts. The Lieutenants really have no real responsibilities. In addition, as a Sgt. With more street experience than most Lieutenants, I prefer that the Lt.s stay inside and crunch numbers and watch TV. When they're on the street they tend to get in the way of the the Sgts and officers who already know what to do in crisis situations. Nothing personal, just my observations working in 007.

They don't order supplies for sgts classes. you bring a pen and people bring hand outs and power points. not sure what supplies you believe they need.

FYI, Sgts had to put in by April 16th to leave may 16th and receive the health care. According to the clear par forms only 52 Sgts put in, so the 60 number sounds accurate.

I have 15 years on this job. The fact that the last time I was able to take the det promotional exam was 11 years ago is so disheartening. There's no chance for any time of promotion on this job unless you pay some alderman or get the answers. Even the folks at Bernstein said that the CPD test is the hardest in the nation. I have a lot of other things going on and I can't spend all day everyday studying so basically I'm screwed. I'm going up against people who already know what is on the test.

Hey crybaby!!! How bad do you want it??? Some of us studied our asses off, sacrificed time with family and slowed down the OT. Took time due the last week to study some more. Made it in the 4th class. No one is going to GIVE you a fucking thing if you don't have the clout. DO something about it. If you test like shit then accept the fact that you should have paid better attention in high school. Or that you're just a fucking rock. Don't let it consume you.

We don't care if they have three lieutenants on each watch . What we need is 20 beat cars in every district , every beat car should be 2 man on the first and third watch . On the second watch at least 10 of the 20 beat cars should be two man .
More sergeants and lieutenants is a good thing , it creates opportunity for promotions for more of us .

Exactly.. Trust me guys who are 450-600 are sweating this a ton especially with all the rumors of the doj wanting more supervisors and a large Amount of sgts leaving in May etc they went from thinking they have no chance to the possibility of making it.. So yes, more promotions are good for the guys who actually took the test, scored decent and want to get made. Trust me, it sucks missing out on a list when you are less than 20 away from the cut off.. It happened to me in the 90s. I could blame merit but I won't... I don't play that child's game. If I wanted to get made I should have studied harder... So keep making them so guys who are near the cut off can get made

I'LL just answer the one at a time to keep it simple.

I have 15 years on this job (PROBABLY).
The fact that the last time I was able to take the det promotional exam was 11 years ago is so disheartening(Definitely).
There's no chance for any time of promotion on this job unless you pay some alderman or get the answers(WRONG. IT'S CALLED WORKING FOR YOUR STAR.)
Even the folks at Bernstein said that the CPD test is the hardest in the nation(BECAUSE THEY THINK LIKE DR'S, NOT THE GED SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS WHO MAKE THE TESTS).
I have a lot of other things going on and I can't spend all day everyday studying so basically I'm screwed(YES, IF YOU DECIDED THE OTHER STUFF WAS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU). I'm going up against people who already know what is on the test(NOT ALL OF THEM. BUT WITH YOUR ATTITUDE, YOU LOST BEFORE THIS STARTED. GOOD LUCK)
