- The Chicago police union president decried an unprecedented "level of disrespect" faced by officers on the street and called for more vocal public support of police, saying, "There's a deafening silence out there right now."
In a speech Tuesday to the City Club of Chicago, Dean Angelo Sr. complained that officers' hands are being tied by "anti-police correctness" and warned that as a byproduct Chicago is headed back to the days of 900 homicides a year.
Citing a national report, the Fraternal Order of Police president said attacks on police are on the rise, but he complained that the news media play videos of incidents involving officers "as if it's a Super Bowl-winning touchdown."
"It's played over and over and over again until it's embedded in the audience's mind," Angelo, whose union represents the department's 12,000 rank-and-file officers, told several hundred civil leaders at the luncheon gathering.
We'd certainly like to see a list of these "several hundred civil leaders." And maybe see who they like to hang out with...or contribute to. It's good to see Dean out there speaking, but the "deafening silence" is not an accident - it's being directed.

It's time to get back to basics. Start with the parkers and movers.
To any boss demanding "activity," I say, I follow the general orders and special orders of the Chicago Police Department, and not one of those orders says I must bring in an ISR to earn my paycheck. So stop your demands. You are just blowing hot air, and the summer is hot enough without your pollution steaming up the air. If you like, you can lead by example. You can stay in the rear with the gear, or march in the front with the grunts.
Do CPD bosses wear their body cameras during their meetings with Rahm? Aren't they getting paid their salaries with taxpayer money, so shouldn't their meetings be available to the public? that would be mighty transparent if they did.
It seems that much of the public and 98% of the media disagrees with Deano. His is a voice crying out in the wilderness.
What can the silent majority do ? What the hell can we do ? How do we push back againstbthis crap ? It feels like we are stuck with crooked politicians like Rahm, Madison and the whole cartel. We see the thugs runnng amok and trying to win the ghetto lottery blaming everyone exceptbthemselves. We see the disgusting pandering to these animals . Short of taking up arms, what the hell can we do ?

The city will never release video of routine police contact, especially if it involves contact with some of the anti police goofs out there. The current superintendent is just too tied at the hip to Rahm to ever allow that. He sure does not seem to be backing his officers or engaging in real leadership. He is " managing" not leading.
Get the part of the speech where Dean says he is in agreement with the City's new overtime program. As usual, Don O'Neill takes little Dean and stuffs him in his back pocket. I can believe Rahm and O'Neill actually let Dean talk in public!

On one of the local radio stations last week, I heard that little Tommy Dart released some video of corrections officers being attacked at the county jail. Since I have had no inclination to watch the local (much less the national) news on TV in decades I wondered if any of those videos got any air time from our "watch dog" media. Haven't heard anything about it since.
Meanwhile. . . stay safe, stay fetal.
I am not an officer, but I don't recall the late 80's to mid-90's having this level of anti-police sentiment and lack of support from the Mayor's office. I am not in a position to know if there were major differences between Washington, Sawyer and younger Daley in support of the police department. Lack of support is definitely hurting good police work today, but is it fair to say that this was the case when the murder rate was at an all time high?
I am asking because I don't know. Any shared thoughts would be appreciated.

A little O.t. here but am I the only one bothered when Angelo says things like "worst I have seen in my 36 years". because I remember him in Nolan's disaster and I think he was medical with a knee injury for 20 years, maybe I'm wrong but I question how much of the street he has seen and how much police work he has done. I realize that does not necessarily impact his ability as president but it comes off like a person who lies on their resume.
Contract Negotiations . The last contract we had "Ranger Ray " decided to go to Puerto Rico for two weeks . nice right in the middle he plopped down two weeks of slips in Deans desk and off he went . Unfortunately that's true, many of the doa police are former military 1 guy I know inparticular is a Marine sniper, they can carry weapons to and from work but not on airport property.
Reminds of the time that idiot merit cpd boss at O'Hare noticed a doa coppers empty holster and made the cpd coppers search him after not finding a weapon this merit goof had coppers car searched the copper works part-time at a real police agency and just got off work! Thankfully that airport commander is leaving soon pathetic the way he carries himself!
Why do we have (and pay for) Aviation Police at the airport if they are not armed? If there policy is "run and hide" when trouble hits? What are they there for?
IF this is the case the Aviation Police are useless and a waste of money. We need armed police and trained police at the airports.
I have traveled through Midway and the security gaps are big enough to drive semitrailer through them. For crying out loud, they park an EMPTY squad car along the departures and arrivals queues as if that will deter the terrorists.
The City won't put more security there until a terrorist act occurs here and numerous people get killed. To be properly prepared for such an event, we have to think about WHEN it occurs, not IF it occurs.

Eddie Johnson continued his apology tour in the 015th dist the other day. He had Snelling with him and a couple of others. Snelling is a decent enough guy but it appears he too is selling his soul to the brass and politicians. Anyway, I sure hope no one bought what fast Eddie was selling.
Eddie Johnson, you treacherous traitor....all the apologies in the world can't save you now. I hope you and the little rich boy Rahm enjoy this coming weekend. Something tells me it will be one for the record books. You both should stand up and take a bow for the carnage that's getting worse and worse in this city. I think as of right now we are 3 away from 70 homicides in June. That's fucking ridiculous. Leave now and take all of these other incompetent hacks with you.

It's clear they couldn't give EVERY Sgt in NOBLE the answers to the LT test. Snelling is going to have to earn his bars the old fashion way..Sell his soul. I guess once you take Merit, your ass doesn't hurt as much the next time.

Snelling was considered an expert in use of force and very respected. Now the command staff ignore him and he has very little to do at the academy. Is the superintendent trying to get by in from the street officers by dragging Snelling along? Did he ever ask Snelling about his opinion of the officers he recently stripped? Forget the use of force model, the new rule is "how will it look on camera".

The city will never release video of routine police contact, especially if it involves contact with some of the anti police goofs out there. The current superintendent is just too tied at the hip to Rahm to ever allow that. He sure does not seem to be backing his officers or engaging in real leadership. He is " managing" not leading.
