Chiampas Again (UPDATE)
The disrespect for First Responders seems to be spilling over to the fire side:
- A suburban woman slapped a Chicago firefighter when he wouldn't let her ride a Divvy bike past a reversing fire truck, prosecutors said Wednesday.
The 56-year-old fireman had stopped traffic near Wells and Van Buren streets about 4 p.m. Monday to accommodate a fire truck that was backing into the Chicago Fire Department station at 419 S. Wells St., court records show.
Maegan Kurtz, 26, approached the station on a Divvy bicycle and tried to continue cycling past the truck, which was
flashing its lights, according to an arrest report. The fireman tried to stop Kurtz, and a verbal altercation ensued, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said in court Wednesday.
That's when Kurtz allegedly slapped the firefighter. The man pushed Kurtz away, court records show, and she tumbled to the ground.
Judge Peggy Chiampas was not amused:
- "I do not take lightly the fact that an officer tells someone to stay out of the way, and the response is to get slapped in the face," Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas told Kurtz on Wednesday before setting bail at $25,000.
The firefighter suffered a cut to his face, and ought to be slapping this entitled special snowflake with a lawsuit.

The firefighter should make sure he does not have a serious head injury. He should consult an attorney, and see a neurologist and take a long time to heal. Make sure he can sleep properly, does not have nightmares and consult a physiologist because he might have trauma whenever he sees a divy bike.

These were the daughters of Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch, who kept asserting their "privilege" to enter Crobar, with their "do you know who my daddy is?" tirade.
Judge Sheehan dismissed the case against the intoxicated pair, despite MULTIPLE WITNESSES standing right there watching their criminal behavior unfold.

Its unfortunately their dispatch policy. Its not the guys on the trucks/ambulances asking. Trust me, the great majority don't like it and are very capable of taking care of them selves. That being said just go and back them up. We are all first responders and should have each others backs.

About ten - twelve years ago when I was a dick in a city wide unit, I was driving in River North area and driving an unmarked squad. Heard a call during evening rush hour of a copper' calling for cars to assist him Off of Rush street. I put the flashing lights and siren on and got stuck in traffic and was moving slow. A yuppie biker hits the top of the squad with his fist and mother fucks me. It sounded like a gun shot. I was livid to state it lightly and tried in all ways to catch up to this fuck. The fuck knew I was on him and made u turns to fuck me up.
The copper gave a slow down and I toured the area for this piece of shit for two hours and let the 018 guys know help in my quest. The beat guys told me these fucking biker' in area are all Jag Off's and they do fuck with them.
I even returned the next day at the same location to find this prick.
He would of had his 25 hundred bike sinking in the Chicago River' after he got bitched slapped.
You poor guys and gals working the streets are so screwed to now have to eat shit in working the job. Us old timer' would be fucked if we had to contend with brass that are zero' and mutts that know you guys are always on the bubble.

When you are on one of those "rental" bikes, most likely you are not a good rider in city traffic, therefore you are a complete and utter moron for trying to navigate it ESPECIALLY anywhere around police cars and/or fire trucks. It's bad enough that 99.9% of the people don't bother pulling over and stopping when they hear sirens, now the bikers, rental and otherwise, are just as bad.

Owner Alison Cohen and her carpetbagger buddy Gabe Klein have gone from city to city pushing this into place. He works himself into one city transportation department after another, and then this. Last I saw, the bikes are made in Canada -- to be used here in the ancestral home of Schwinn -- and Cohen's charity contributions off her profits look to be to support Canadian, uh, causes about 100%. I forget what town they're working now. Look this up, all independently verifiable.

My apologies. Don't want people to think all cyclists are like this. I hate people like this too; they endanger all of us. I use a bike a great deal for basic transportation and am always as careful as I can be. Wear hi-viz clothing, have four or more lights going front and rear after dark, and stop for everything so it doesn't kill me, or especially so I don't hurt anyone else. People also throw at me, scream to try to make you jump, run out and try to grab you, make "significant eye contact" and then walk right in front of you in the middle of the block -- no reason. Be ready for anything.
If you play it right, you are an "augmented pedestrian;" still stop and get off and wait for the light to change and walk the bike across where traffic/people are heavy, but then when you get out in a clearer area where it is safe you can make up a little time.
Last time I tried to figure it on a 20-mile trip, I averaged about 8-9 MPH overall. Twice as fast as you can walk, and much easier to roll the groceries along than to have the bags cutting your fingers off, no waiting/spending for buses, so it is a big improvement. No fun in bad weather, though. You won't see d__kheads like this out on even an unloaded bike when it is -15 degrees, but I have taken +100 lbs. through the same and got home OK.

The Rabbi is now quite aware and is a very big supporter of all people in Law Enforcement and Fire people. The Rabbi was livid and will be speaking to his son Saturday night after the Jewish Sabbath about one of his son' employee' here in Chicago fucking up. This woman gave the top 5 star hotel a bad name."

This is a big city with much worse s__t happening every minute, but this particular thing gets under everyone's skin because it was SO snotty and selfish and totally unnecessary that a good judge ain't laughing either.
Riding bicycle easy one night, residential street, couple firemen waved me down. "We got a bad gas leak up here. You turn around and go back the way you came."

Just like Chicago to get its taxpayers' d__ks caught in yet another clunky, unwieldy, half-implemented-and-already-obsolete insider arrangement.
Reminds me of the radio ads I keep hearing about a company that will "help you get out of your time-share-condo-that-you-never-use contract" -- for a fee, of course.
The CFD needs a CPD unit attached them, stationed with them at all times. Big burley, tough firemen, working out everyday.
CFD has a 6 year old with asthma, requesting police. CFD has a 62 year old women suffering from seizures, requesting police.
CFD has intoxicated male, requesting police.
CFD has an elderly person suffering from dementia, requesting police. Have no problem riding with CFD, but talk about the boy who cried wolf.

Then when you show up to there asthma run they look at you like you're a fucking jagoff.
Simple solution is to have a supervisor intervene and code the job. The fire unit on the scene can request police if they need us. Only time we should automatically be going are mentals and crime victims (but we usually get those first anyway). An automatic response is unnecessary, usually not needed and generally done just so fire units don't have to wait on the scene in the event of a DOA or other incident where the police would need to respond and they can't just leave. It's mostly a move by their dispatchers and not the fire units themselves, but I have heard of fire units telling their dispatch to send out the watch commander thinking they will then get a better police response to something they're at. It doesn't work that way fellas, you don't dictate who you want, so don't bother with that nonsense. 19-A the job and have the fire unit on scene call if the police are needed. We're not staffed nor do we have that low of a call volume to ride with them on every job, that's a suburban thing. Police and fire ride together on everything. We can't maintain that.
Judge Peggy, a former ASA, and Felony Review ASA, has always performed her duties to the fullest in order to get that conviction. I worked with her as a Detective but she did the work with you, worked the long hours, put cases on hold but came back the next day to charge. I am retired now but am honored to read her name in SCC as a Judge who does the right thing and not the politically right thing. Thank You Judge Peggy for being the person you are with a value system of right and wrong.
Didn't get the whole story just now but news radio reporting --
Bicyclist injured badly when someone opened a car door in front of him and he collided. Cyclist was reportedly losing a lot of blood, CPD apparently was first on scene and helped him out until ambo could arrive. No word on condition but he is apparently still with us.

The callers can have something to do with it too. Some people with a grudge are s__tstarters, whistling up everything they can think of, so they tell a big story and the police come too on a really harmless call in a safe place.
Divvy bikes do have lights on them and the cutest little bells. I can hear them go cha-ching.
