Dope Game Changes

  • Possession of small amounts of marijuana is now a civil offense across Illinois, punishable only by fines — not jail time.

Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner signed legislation decriminalizing small amounts of pot on Friday, after vetoing a bill last year that sought to allow slightly larger amounts.

Chicago has already joined more than 100 Illinois local governments in removing some criminal penalties for people caught with lesser amounts of marijuana. But the new law extends decriminalization to the entire state.
Ten grams of less is now statewide. Not only that, but the Courts are required to expunge the civil violations at the end of each year, so everyone gets a "do-over." And DUI writers aren't exempt either - the law sets a floor for THC intoxication where it used to be zero.

Just remember it's only in the blue states.

Tonight I was watching the Cubs game on TV when the camera zoomed in on a Cubs player in the dugout. They caught him in the process of dipping some chewing tobacco into his lower lip.
As soon as I saw that, I recalled that chewing tobacco is now illegal at the ballpark.

The next thing that occurred to me is that Gov Rauner had just signed this bill decriminalizing marijuana possession and I thought "How crazy is it that these two substances, chewing tobacco and marijuana, are now practically looked at as equally illegal and subject to fines?"

These damn democrats are just screwing everything up in this country!

More stupidity on part of politicians. Tobacco is taboo because of the ill effects on human health, but marijuana, with more cancer causing carcinogens than tobacco, is being legalized for your consumption.
Politicans must think new bad habits are needed so they can be taxed.
Maybe enough people will become "hooked" on pot so Obamacare can be fully funded. That is until the cancer rate shoots up. Then maybe crack will be legalized, but just in small amounts you know. Don't want to kill off taxpayers too fast. Idiots!

Yes, it is but was not enforced under a democratic US Attorney and President and probably is on the path to being downgraded from schedule one and legal recreational use nationwide. I think that this is partly to tax it, but also partly to cut down on the arrests and people with criminal records for something that is becoming so widely used and accepted.

They also raised the amount needed for felony. It was 30 grams now they've more then tripled it to 100 grams for felony weight.

Looks like more traffic crashes will be happening due to more drivers being high. Only stands to reason that the people will be driving after having smoked the dope.

Until a few minutes ago I had no idea of what one gram of dope looks like let alone teen grams. But YouTube and a pot-head came to the rescue (friggen burnouts) with what the different weights actually look like volume wise.

After viewing the video, Ten Grams of Pot looks to me like more than what would be for personal use vs for distribution -- unless its on your person after a purchase and your going home. But if your out on the street & hangin' with your buds at 1:30am having Ten Grams on you can only mean you're dealing it. And THAT should still be illegal criminally.

I don't like any illegal drug use. So needless to say it's my opinion this *semi* decriminalization of pot in Illinois is a mistake. There's hard medical evidence that prolonged marijuana use DOES harm the brain.

I have been saying this for 25 years on this job! Just legalize weed already!

It is already basically sanctioned by the criminal courts refusal to convict and to release all weed offenders!

Small amounts of Marijuana never, ever gets prosecuted in criminal courts!

So, stop it with the drop cases before you all wind up in Federal Court and fired and losing all your benefits!

Don't know what you're smoking there J.J., but researchers have found numerous anti-cancer properties in marijuana. In fact some strains are used to prevent seizures in young children who have no other alternatives that work as well with no side effects. Stop believing the reefer madness nonsense from the 1940's and educate yourself. In this day and age any copper who still thinks that marijuana use is bad is an out of touch idiot. Think about it. Some citizen decides to smoke a plant and you want to lock him up? Does that even make sense? Ever fight with a stoner high on weed? No, I didn't think so. Can't say the same about a boozer though, but they'll never ban alcohol, even though it causes almost 50k deaths annually.

Almost 30 years of working for ISP and don't recall even one crash caused by a pot smoker. Not one. I'm sure there are a few that do happen but the amount is probably statistically insignificant. Now ask me about alcohol.
