Um....
- A 72-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man were struck by a car fleeing police in the Fifth City neighborhood on the West Side Tuesday evening, authorities said.
The car struck the two pedestrians in the 3400 block of West Fifth Avenue at 6:45 p.m., according to [...] a Chicago police spokesman.
The woman suffered an injury to her ankle and a cut to the head. The man suffered bruising on his lower left leg and shoulder. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were listed in good condition.....
What is it going to take? More stripping? More firing? More judgments against your financial assets?

Avg citizen here.
Don't chase people. It's not worth it. The first thing you should do, when you encounter a felon fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle, is to start singing that song from "Frozen".
Let it go!!
Let it GOOO!!!!
Some people will never learn
You just can't fix stupid. Like taking DOJ people to your free spot. Stupid can't be changed. You're stuck with it.
You hard-chargers need your fucking heads examined. I will NOT be buying tickets to any benefit for proactive NONSENSE. Policing is dead. Grieve it's passing and move the fuck on. Nothing more to see here.
Some folks just never seem to get the message. Heads as dense as concrete.
But they caught the driver?
Stay fetal! Someone is going to get sued now. Some people just never learn.
From the outside looking in one would think that cops would want to try and do things in a way that don't make them look bad over things that just don't matter all that much. I don't understand this Chasing Cars over piddly stuff in urban areas. So what if someone gets away over some petty crime. It's not worth some innocent citizen being killed over.
Not a cop.
Nothing will stop these morons from chasing. They're the "real police." Everyone else is just a "dog." They're out there running and gunning and catching bad guys while everyone else is just jealous of their amazing skills and awesome arrests. Gee, officer... thanks for chasing my stolen car and getting granny's blood on it before it got totaled. Thanks for arresting that juvenile car thief who will suffer no consequences for his actions. Thanks for risking your career, your life, your freedom, your reputation, and your money just to save my car, only to end up watching the offender crash and ruin my car, and injure innocent bystanders.
All of you idiots that don't get it, who think you're supercop, who think you're just doing your job, who claim you're so much better than the "dogs" who don't chase any and everything while violating multiple general orders, YOU'RE DOING IT FOR YOURSELF! There's no other explanation or justification for the absolute stupidity involved in chasing these days. You get off on it. You like it too much to realize or accept the reality of the situation. You're risking everything for what amounts to nothing. If someone shoots your partner, go get 'em. Anything else, you're just doing it for fun. Sure, it feels good to bust the bad guy and get the property back to its rightful owner. It feels great to do the right thing. YOU CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE. THE RISKS FAR OUTWEIGH THE REWARDS. WAKE THE FUCK UP ALREADY!
That didn't convince you, did it? Enjoy bankruptcy and prison. You have only yourself to blame at this point.
Apparently not. That's why HQ is now ordering traffic missions be done 24/7 every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting this week.
You so called hard chargers are idiots. Chasing for what amounts to total b.s. Heard another chase tonight that ended up in a crash. Enjoy the lawsuits and total headaches.
How stupid can you possibly f*cking be? FYI:

"Police have traced the driver, who they have not named, but say that they don't believe she intentionally hit the protester.
"Spokesman Jeff Small told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch police don't believe the driver intentionally struck the protester.
"'By all accounts, her version of what happened seems to fit the version of what happened to a person driving down a busy West Florissant Avenue and not seeing a person standing there,' Small said.
"No arrests were made."
I understand how chasing a hot car is bad and violates General Orders not to mention how it places the individual officer in jeopardy but here's the flip side. What's next? What will be the next crime that we say "let them go, it's not worth it, it's only .......? How much do cars cost today? Mine was 37K. Now if someone steals it I will get paid off by the insurance agency, we know that. But why should it be OK for someone to come onto my property and steal my property which is worth in excess of 30K and then have law enforcement say that they are not going to try and catch the guy that stole it and recover my car when they see it on the street? What's next? Home invasion? Are we going to say "oh well, we are not going to chase the HI offender because he didn't hurt anyone when he home invaded them at 0200 hrs? I am not taking sides on this matter merely asking a question. I know all of this is happening because people have been hurt and because of bottom feeding lawyers but rather than chastise a copper for doing his job, shouldn't we be chastising society and pond sucking scum lawyers for creating a situation in which stealing someones property valued in the thousands is now considered to be a lesser crime? Like I said, what's next? Rape, burglary, agg batt?
I'm not buying a ticket to your benefit party dickhead.
Some people will NEVER get it.

My thoughts exactly. Couldn't agree with you more. Every "hard charger" out there must think they're impressing their fellow officers and/or boosting their own self inflated egos while appeasing the bosses who will not have their backs. Wake the fuck up is exactly right. Fucking morons get what they deserve.
I was watching a You Tube video of a Black Lives Matter protest in Ferguson, Missouri. The protest was on the anniversary of the late St. Michael Brown's demise. A girl is taping it all while they're walking in the street. One of the protesters suddenly gets hit by a car and they all start screaming. A little later somebody starts shooting and they all are screaming and running for cover. At the end the girl starts screeching, " There's fucking cops sitting in a police car over there and their not doing anything." Exactly honey. Those coppers get it. You now see what's at stake when you vilify the police.
We don't know the circumstances. lord knows I've attempted to stop cars before that take off recklessly and even at the point that I self terminate, which could be right away, they still drive crazy. Just because a chase is self terminated, or never even initiated due to actions of the bad guy, doesn't mean the bad guy is suddenly going to slow down or drive responsibly. This could have been we pull a guy over, get out of the car, start to approach, and suddenly he floors it while we are still on foot. This happens to me about once every 6 months. By the time you get back in your car and start moving, the bad guy is already speeding through stop signs and red lights and speeding recklessly around corners. Even if you don't chase him, the guy isn't slowing down. And what will everyone say when the bad guy hits someone? The poleece was chasin' him!!! But really, what can you do? Stop pulling people over altogether? Not gonna happen.
Still chasing😒
How about all you awesome cops trying to tell the people still doing their jobs hiw to do them just keep it to yourselves. I understand you don't need to or want to do anything anymore other than code your jobs if and when you actually show up to them. But some of us still like to work ,like our jobs, and even arrest bad guys once in a while. Once again you show your true lazy ass colors hiding behind your excuses of why now you don't do shit....I don't care and you shouldn't care that some of us are still fighting the good fight. KMA
Zone 10 full of "real police". Risking themselves for a neighborhood that deserves exactly ZERO City services, let alone police who give half a f*ck.
Keep it up, hard chargers. The bosses can always use good guys like you.
I just wanted to throw this out there but just because the car was fleeing the police, doesn't mean that it was being chased by the police. If you try to pull a car over and the driver speeds off instead, that's fleeing, even if you don't take off after them.

Fuck their traffic missions. Don't write any movers. They can't say anything to you if you bring in zero.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Wagon motto from the 80's: "You call, we haul, that's all" Words of wisdom
Again I do not feel sorry for the four officers stripped, Van Dyke, and these new idiots that are soon to be stripped, why? Because they don't play team ball. Everyone with common sense has been saying stay fetal and no more proactive policing. What do these idiots do? The opposite, putting everyone else who has to assist them lives, freedom, and careers in jeopardy because it's all about them. These are the same motherfuckers that will work their day off over the Labor Day weekend when the Union called for a day of action. Buy a benefit ticket? Get the fuck out of here!

Agree 100%. Morons are on their own after the warnings and continued stupidity we see in the news.
Boo Hoo... there; I just grieved it and now la-la-la... :-)
What exactly is the benefit or thrill of chasing and arresting for a TVB?
Who's interested in getting on Jugghead Special Ed's list?
By golly - It's a ghetto crime, committed by a ghetto inhabitant, in an uninsured ghetto vehicle, who probably fled another ghetto crime interaction, that will NEVER get a cooperating victim/witness for a felony approval.
I never thought much of ghetto antics and when assigned to 011, it was never my mission to stop these folks in hopes of getting a feather in my cap or getting them folks to change their ways by arrest.
These goofs don't deserve a future benefit or pats on the back for their pro-activity.
Maybe the snoozing merit supervisor will take the first hit with double indemnity punitives.
By the way, where are the First, Second, Third, Fourth and Sixth City neighborhoods?
If 011 has the Fifth City, I can't imagine the First or Tenth City hood being much of a paradise.
Speaking of newspapers, every rant by the incensed media exaggerates facts, such as a certain shooting of a criminal 16 times.
Facts are that this criminals deadly threat was extinguished however this criminal was not the recipient of 16 rounds.
Perhaps an expert out there can advise if the "reporters" can be held liable for not reporting fact? With individual punititive damages sought for each and every occurrence?
Your thoughts are welcome...

Let's face it.
There are some guys who should've
been washed out before they graduated.
You know...
Those ants-in-the-pants kind of guys.
The ones who can't seem to sit still
for an extended period of time...
We call them the Generation ADHD Police.
The "Ritalin Kids" all grown up and taking
jobs in Law Enforcement because "there's
nothing else to do and they're bored."
Now throw the ubiquity of the hand-held,
battery powered electronic dee-vice...
Life is SnapChat?
Communication has been dumbed down
to a tweet?
More than 140 characters
causes delicate mental and emotional
gears to go out of sync and grind themselves
to scrap metal because they aren't rated for
anything beyond the posted load limit.
No Monday morning quarterbacking, just plain facts. The hair gel supercops with their college education ruined this job a long time ago and it just keeps getting worse. Do you FUCKING IDIOTS understand anything. First, they don't want you being proactive. Neither the citizens, politicians or exempts want you playing superhero. Second do you see what being proactive gets you? Stripped, fired and/or indicted. Get your college educated head out your ass. Quit taking shit personal. The POS running in a stolen car or for traffic isn't worth chasing. Quit taking things personal. Your antic caused 2 people to be severely injured by some asshole who doesn't give a shit what laws he breaks. But you were chasing the idiot. Guess who these 2 victims are going to sue. If it was me I'd be suing you too. The world is a different place and policing proactively is dead and gone. Are you deaf, dumb and blind? Do you not see what is happening to police who are out there running and gunning. Either grow up or be prepared to lose everything you have including possibly your freedom. The people you consider dogs were hard working cops their whole career. The reason they have laid down and become fetal is they want to make it to retirement without being sued, fired or indicted. Time to remove the leather driving gloves and stop taking shit personal. Answer your calls, no confrontations and stop putting yourself in a position of OH SHIT, WE FUCKED UP.
Chase a stolen car into a bunch of kids playing on some side street or alley, you know playing like we used to when we were kids...MORONS!!!!!
It's not WORTH the EFFORT like it was years ago. The climate today only stands up for the defendant/ offender..... just look at our media who constantly brings out the POLICE MISCONDUCT line every time one of the THUGS get shot by law enforcement even in totally justified incidents ! The politicians are only concerned about their own safety and NOT YOUR WELL BEING ... Stay SAFE & LOOKOUT FOR EACH OTHER'S BACK MORE THAN EVER !!!!!
Gazebo where Cleveland police killed Tamir Rice likely headed to Chicago
"The gazebo where 12-year-old [5'7", 195 lbs.] schoolboy Tamir Rice [who was waving a dead-ringer, full-sized 1911 replica with no orange muzzle plug] was killed by Cleveland police [responding to a "man with a gun" call] is getting a new home — and it's likely to be on Chicago's South Side.
"Artist Theaster Gates is close to finalizing a deal to display this symbol of American tragedy at his Stony Island Arts Bank in the South Shore community, the Rice family's attorney, Billy Joe Mills, tells Chicago Inc.
"Seen by millions in a closed-circuit video of a Cleveland cop fatally shooting Tamir as he played with a toy gun in a park in November 2014, the gazebo is being moved from the grounds of the recreation center where it stood at the request of neighbors and the Rice family."
I will not be buying a benefit ticket for these clowns....will they ever learn?! Sad sad sad....

But why should it be OK for someone to come onto my property and steal my property which is worth in excess of 30K and then have law enforcement say that they are not going to try and catch the guy that stole it and recover my car when they see it on the street?
It is not okay for someone to commit a criminal act against another. However, your only job is to arrest them, that's it. It is the responsibility of the COURTS to hold them accountable, NOT YOU. Anyone with any time on this job has been to branch court where hundreds of good arrests of violent individuals are just "no-probable caused" on a daily basis. The offender can be arrested, 20, 30, 40 times, and the courts just still let them go. Therefore, the officer need to open up his/her fucking eyes and adjust their policing accordingly.
What's next? Home invasion? Are we going to say "oh well, we are not going to chase the HI offender because he didn't hurt anyone when he home invaded them at 0200 hrs?
Again, even if you make the arrest for Home Invasion and charges are approved...THEY ARE STILL NOT HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY THE COURTS. The victims will not cooperate, the ASA's may make a deal to get it pled down, OR they go to trial and are found not guilty. Therefore, what thought was a "good arrest" ends up being nothing but a complete waste of time.
My friggin God man, go to court. Testify in trials. Ask the ASA's questions about the status of the case. IDOC inmate search the offender.
Now you are asking that society be changed. Not going to happen. Accept it. The anti-police crowd has won. Just go to work, answer your calls and go home.
A final word, do not measure your self-worth through this job. Find another outlet. Be the best little league coach out there. Take your kids to a museum. Get your Phd. Have the best lawn on the block. Anything but this shit job.
Are you people stupid? Don't you get it? Do you want to end up in jail? What the fuck!
I always find it amusing when guys say they are not buying a benefit ticket for this guy or that. I would bet a check that you guys NEVER buy a benefit ticket for anybody, not even a kid with cancer. And by the way, Van Dyke was responding to a 911 call, backing up fellow police. And by the way the three guys who got stripped in 004 didn't initiate the chase, they were backing up fellow police

Nobody's telling you not to do your job, but are you totally incapable of seeing the danger of chasing vehicles? Grab guys for burglaries, robberies, domestics. Hell, keep doing dope if you choose to do so, but stop chasing fucking cars. One of two things are going to happen if you chase hot cars: either you're going to chase the guy until he crashes and you pray that nobody gets hurt, and the victim doesn't show at court and the case is dropped. Or you chase until he crashes and an unrelated person dies as a result. Now you're in a tight spot trying to figure out why you were chasing a guy in a 2005 Chevy Astro Van that's worth less than you take home on the first of the month.
I long ago came to the conclusion that most police car chases are not worth the potential consequences of the chase itself. If it is just a stolen car it can be replaced. It is just property. It is not worth killing or injuring some innocent person over trying to recover it.
