Wasn't Rahm just bragging the other day about how it was Special Ed's show? That he'd support any decision Special Ed made regarding the coppers stripped over the McDonald shooting?

So it seems Rahm is running the day-to-day stuff while Special Ed just deals with the bigger issues - like how people of the "community" feel they can better relate to officers of the same race....ummmmmmm....oops.

What little I saw of the video shows really unprofessional conduct on the part of the police women working the desk. That and wearing some type of shorts shirt over her uniform. Desk crews are notorious for blowing people off who come into the station to make reports. It happened to me once after I retired. I have no sympathy, although the rapper should have turned off his recorder inside the building.

However, I wonder what hie would have said if the officers behind the desk were all white. I doubt if he would have given all-white officers the benefit of the doubt.
Does the 3rd district have body cameras, if so why didn't the desk crew have one. If I have to wear one so should the desk crews and dad. While I personally believe the alleged robbery of Rhymefest is bs, and the desk crew was set up. I am glad it was a black officer who called him out on his bs.

In a more serious situation, this is the kind of asshole who may get shot on the street if he does not follow the lawful orders of the police and escalates the matter. But instead of standing up for the officer and the rules, the officer and the rules are thrown under the bus

Minneapolis had a gun buyback at the North Minneapolis and South Minneapolis Fire Stations. These stations primarily serve the African American neighborhoods. The buybacks started late, ended early, and the guns turned in were mostly by caucasians. The police ran out of money, accepted guns with promises of payment in a few hours, when more gift cards arrive for the guns. The cards never arrived, and the police are (correctly) telling them to call the charity.
The few guns they actually bought were all from pasty faced, middle aged men, not the thugs and bangers that are killing people in North and South Minneapolis.

The fact that this happened in 003 is no surprise. They once turned away a victim trying to report a CSA at the desk. They desk crew told her a beat car would come take the report. After waiting 3hrs she finally took the advice of someone else and went to the hospital. Needless to say nobody from 003 ever took her report.

Then the tweet about the report came 2 hours later at 1004. I am really upset that 1-the bosses took his word about candy crush and eating as gospel truth, and 2-went straight to discipline without a formal investigation...this after-the-initial-fact recording and narration seems to be the latest trend. If he came straight to the police station, how long did it take? Why did he not call 911, seeing that he still had his phone? If he wasn't concerned for nearly 2 hours, why would it be such a pressing issue? What is wrong with asking to see someone's hands? Especially since sitting behind the desk you are lower than the person? District desk people are the first people anyone sees when you go into a station and they intimidate you to the point that you want to just leave. This has been going on for years in Chicago. When I made Sgt.years back and was sent to 20th district the girls on the desk did not like me because I would direct them to take care of people who walk in. And what is with the uniform standards, a sports jersey over your uniform. Where was the desk sgt. And WC. This is the heat we're don't need. Commander you are way out of your league.

The female copper at the desk was wrong but why do we allow cameras in the station. There should be signs posted at the door. No video or audio recording. We can't have them in court. You can't have them coming through customs or in any federal building. A safety issue? Privacy issue? The copper is lazy and spent more time trying to blow it off than it would have taken to knock out a report but having a camera stuck in her face added to the situation. Every police officer hates having cameras directed at them but inside a station is an easy place to eliminate their opportunity

I remember working Vri in 003 a few months ago when we took in a TVB (I know we suck for doing work at Vri but the guy was a jag) when we brought the guy for a suspended DL we asked the desk lady, a middle aged F/1 how they handle suspended DLs is it an I bond or long form? She looked at us like we were a-holes and said, " F U!" And walked away. We called for her supervisor and he annoyingly came out and told us that we long form them here. I wanted to get a cr on her dog ass but then we would've been accused of being racist! And all this happened while our prisoner was standing next to us. No wonder the thugs don't respect us. Our own people don't!
Good thing the desk crew wasn't all white we would have to hear about racist police for the next six months. Is there a camera where he was robbed check the video if he lied lock his ass up his story sounds like bullshit. Back in the day when I worked in sos the desk crew treated us the same way when we came there with an arrest nice to see some things never change.

This guy seems like a idiot, but I have trouble defending a desk crew, Ive been retired for 5 yrs and I used to do reports for the citizens that came into the desk all the time even though I was on a beat car, because I was embarrassed at how bad they were treated. I was working the old wood street and then ultimately 016 most victims were actual victims. I couldn't believe how they were treated.

So wait...was there even a formal complaint issued? If so, then by whom? And what were the allegations? Did the accused officer even have a chance to respond? Or even appeal? Whatever happened to "totality of circumstances" ? Looking more and more like due process for officers is non existent.
My daughter went there to get a report for damage to her veh after it was consumed by a massive pot hole and she never told them her dad was a retired CPD,but she was told to call 311, another occasion she went there with a stray dog and was told to call animal control,I worked the desk just 3yrs ago before retiring and these two events showed me how the community is treated and its obsurd that they got away with getting paid and doing nothing,no one complains and it doesn't get better ,it simply stays the same and gets worse,so now it's exposed and things will change,embarrassment to the police dept,is a catch all that sometimes catches all, and all they have to do is paper,wow,what a job,if you do it!

Maybe you're right. . But now others are forced to work their day off instead. So the people who maybe wanted the OT are out $, and those who maybe had plans for that weekend with their families are stuck working. Seems to me a good union leader would have seen this coming and maybe tried a different plan. Plus, Dean is publicly saying this is not a job action and is NOT selling this to draw attention to low manpower. He's selling it as a mental break for officers to be with their families. The whole things accomplishes NOTHING.

Mr. 'Rhymefest' has an obvious attitude problem and went in looking for a confrontation, to be 'disrespected' -- otherwise he wouldn't have had his cell phone camera at the ready. Which I'm pretty sure you CANNOT film or tape inside a Police Station for security reasons (my opinion, I don't know what the law is. But I sure as hell wouldn't do it).
Granted the female officer maybe shouldn't have been eating and playing a game at the front desk. Then again it might have been her lunch break and due to a shortage of cops she took her break there. But wearing her Baseball Jersey over her uniform was NOT appropriate under any situation while on duty.
By the way when's the last time someone got Robbed and their Cellphone wasn't taken along with 'the loot'. Soooo, did Mr 'Rhymefest' really get robbed? Or was he just looking to stir up a bunch of shit.
Oh, and if Tiny Dancer wants to run the CPD maybe he should resign as mayor. He isn't doing anything anyway as the city spirals out of control into 'Detroit Ver2.0'

Maybe some desk crews are but not the district/watch I work in/on.
I must say they're halfway decent.
His story, however made up it sounds is not relevant to this story. If it was a setup with the desk, she took the bait. People will film us and there is nothing we can do about it. If someone walks into the station with a camera on, by the time you tell them to turn it off, it is already uploaded to whatever social media account and you will look bad.There are a few simple things that could have simply avoided this whole thing. you don't have to give a rats ass about his story. It doesn't matter where it happened or what happened. He wants to file a report, you see the camera, smile and give him a stupid piece of paper and move on with your day. Then he gets no satisfaction of blaming the police, there is no story, no publicity etc...

very good point about videoing a district station, would make for good educational material for a possible ambush ! I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to have your phone out videoing the TSA while going through security, even at immigration for that matter ! But lets leave our stations wide open for attack ! After 35 years on the job, I must state that my impression of desk officers is that most of them are rude and lazy and feel entitled. They ( and I worked a few districts) blow people off and find excuses not to make reports. It even happened to me once when I was retired at the 18th district. When this happens it is the fault of the watch commander and the district commander who often puts people on the desk and of course, the bidding system. I watched the snippet of video and the officer was rude and out of uniform. This might be a publicity stunt but the desk personnel fell right into the trap and came out looking like fools.
We need more "accountability" in City Hall. Maybe like this?

The fact that this happened in 003 is no surprise. They once turned away a victim trying to report a CSA at the desk. They desk crew told her a beat car would come take the report. After waiting 3hrs she finally took the advice of someone else and went to the hospital. Needless to say nobody from 003 ever took her report.

The only (And I mean only) good thing about the D-unit realignment a couple of years ago was A/2 getting rid of 003. I always hated going into that district. I've worked all over the city, have been in every district over my 25 year career, and have never had such messed up stuff and seen such out and out ignorance as I've seen in 003. According to City Policy, it is a violation of City Municipal Policy for employees to record anything inside of a city facility.
The Amended Illinois Eavesdropping law is a PITA to read through...but the Gist (as I understand it) is this:
Illinois' two-party eavesdropping statute Requires CONSENT FROM BOTH PARTIES. For the Audio only as far as I could find info.
The Video itself would only be a Rule Violation if the person Taping is a City Employee.
So if the Video in question has Audio, and no Verbalized Consent to record any of the desk officers at 003...read 720 Ill. Comp. Stat. 5/14-1, -2 (or whatever it is now).
The issue is how vague the new current language is. Basically it boils down to if the Inside of a police Station is considered "In the Public" or is it considered an Interior location and the municipal ban on Video and Audio recording inside City Facilities takes over.

why be so hard on the poster? Look what the cops did in Rio and the trouble they went to to prove the swimmer was a liar. Then they charged all of them with false report. There is a lot of publicity over this, all bad and I think it should be fully investigated, after all it is a complaint of an armed robbery. What are you going to do with it? just forget it? Detectives should look at POD footage and check the victim's cell phone. By your comment on " just do the report" I would be willing to bet that is all you think police work should be and that is all that you do.

Why do we always want to defend coppers when they are wrong? She is an awful representation of CPD and I want to know why she was working the desk with a jersey over her uniform shirt? If it was cold in the station she should have put on her uniform sweater/jacket etc. Shame on the DSS for allowing her to work like that and for allowing her to treat people so disrespectful. I wonder if # 1 scorer Lt Wysinger-Hall was the Watch Commander that day? If so I can't believe as anal as she is, she let someone work the desk out of uniform. And yes, I am a supervisor.

Served time in 003 god forbid I had to call in on my Monday to check my start time on the beat...I would get the same exact treatment...the desk crew in 003 can go F themselves. Glad other people are finally seeing the mess 003 is! It's time for a clean up in that district.
Consider a police station like a court building, for the safety and sensitive nature of the activities occuring in such, no audio or video shall be conducted inside a police facility.

That's not a valid comparison AND, that's not the Desk crews job. Do the report, include the questionable items and let the followup units file it or investigate it. The D Unit Ain't gonna do a Rio Investigation anyway. You would lose your bet but that's what Desk officer police work is. If they want to do real police work they can come back out with us

This kind of stuff does not just happen in 003. Ive actually been embarrased at the way a certain desk officer in 025 on 3rd watch treat walk ins. Anyone who works there knows who im talking about and odds are sooner or later this is going to happen to her also.

The point is its all the Bosses expect us to do and if you start acting like a cop and doing an actual "initial investigation" everyone starting at sergeant is going to take a giant shit on you. Ive been thru that enough. Now I automatically take reports I even know are total BS. I give them their POS piece of paper and send them off happily waving it in the air, light on their feet. They act like they won the Lottery.
Its a lot easier then having them call some asshole SGT who then shits on you for actually acting like the Police and bothering him because any idiot knows the elements for a criminal report arent there. Fuck that, write the report, in fact take 2 hours to write the report, and go write your next 2 hour report.
What you think Police "should be" and what "it is" are two entirely different things.

very good point about videoing a district station, would make for good educational material for a possible ambush ! I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to have your phone out videoing the TSA while going through security, even at immigration for that matter ! But lets leave our stations wide open for attack ! Zero f**ks given !

What about the privacy issues of other citizens who are in the station making reports? Do they want to be recorded?
Many desk crews act that way. I've seen them call a traffic car in for a walk in 501 car accident. The desk won't do 501's.

I'm a retired officer and I know how the desk in 25 operates, a female officer told me that I needed to go back home and call 311 to make a report. I once again told her my status and said I needed a report and she was very adiment about not doing it until I told her that I would speak with the area deputy. Point is, I never should have needed to go to that level. I'm not special but I did need that report. Desk people need a charm class because someday a nut job is going to do bad things. I sure hope I'm wrong.
Bang the watch commander,DSS and the XO and the one out of uniform. They all saw her and let her get away with it.I was in the first district the other night and the midnight desk dolly has no gun on and wearing Nike gym shoes. Ive seem desk crews with slippers on.
