So has the Department demoralized everyone so badly that no one is signing up for various Voluntary Special Work Opportunities?
They just re-opened the Chicago Marathon Special Employment sign-up for an additional week because they didn't fill the slots. It's time-and-one-half, but with a possibility for a long day.

The real story is the job sucks for 8.5 hours a day, Why do it on your day off?
I hear the city is gonna start offering double time due to the fact that no one is signing up for the various special employments.
I hear they are gonna have an overtime initiative after Obama bans menthol cigarettes. Gonna leagalize weed and ban squares. Heroin and crack will soon be legal also. Powder cocaine will stay a felony. It's all in an effort to lock up more white people.
In the military, we learned never ever to volunteer. For anything.
Maybe they discovered that time off on Labor Day was a good thing?
Off topic but why isn't there any of the typical outrage or talk over another shooting in 016? Victim was shot in the face last night by someone that pulled up to him in a vehicle., while he was driving his car around Harlem and Addison. Many city workers of all walks living in that area.

The real story is there were two inspectors at lasts years marathon that pimped the shit out of a ton of officers for belt keepers , white socks, vests, beards , and other trivial things. Who wants to take a mover and be hassled on their day off
Worked the Marathon a couple of years ago, hands down the worse detail I ever worked. I'll never work it again. P.S. the asshole s who walk across the finish line 12 hours later don't deserve an applause.

Long day in spades. Last time I worked it, we were shuffled around to so many posts, it made me nauseous. Then we had to hunt down the jagoff sergeant to hand in our radios. No thanks, you can have it.
I wish I was off. It can be long depending on your location along the route. I done both long and short days but it is a way day. Direct a few cars in the beginning then once the race starts that's it. Easy money.
someones dolly forgot to sign up...(or maybe it was the next fatal attraction target of henny penny)....so they extended it.
or maybe the feeble minded house mouses at HQ and in admin spots all over are confused by their summer DOG and think they are working Sun (as opposed to reverting back to mon-fri work week that day/start of the period)---and the other half (who have been sun/mon dog all summer) are of no help cause they don't understand either- and can't explain that everyone is back to sat/sun dog that very day.
Never mind this was the practice before (except last year when they all stayed sat/sun and the details were voluntary OT---which was funny because the cost was not passed along to the event organizers).
I think double time is a fair wage.
If you noticed everyone wants to do a walk,fest, food truck social and outdoor concerts. Using FREE land and PARKS.
Yet the City is in a budget mess and I have not heard what the City of Chicago receives for these nice trinket like police security,closing street, garbage trucks etc etc.
But i have noticed donation floating to Alderman and RAHMBO paid in kind before these even happen.
Too the media trolls donation are online and permits are also on the cities website.
But it take a little effort and RAHM wil not email you the info.
Maybe the marathon should hire their own private security company and let them deal with the bullshit.

If the media is interested in bashing the police at every opportunity, why do they refuse to address the fact that nearly every exempt could not pass a promotional exam.

The revision of every order that is issued has been going on for several years now.
The reason?
People that have Never been the police running this Dept. (officers that have worked or pretended to work inside for decades)
People that have no clue what is needed for day to day, special events, etc etc etc.
When a new regime comes in, the previous people are kicked to the curb and sent to either another inside unit or back to a dist.
No one ever asks those that have been doing the job successfully how it was done.
Just keep shuffling the useless officers that are afraid of their own shadows from one inside job to another.
Hence, the shitshow.
I heard this year the city is going to require that the officers participate in the run anyone who doesn't cross finish line will not be paid. Ed "can't get right" Johnson and his band of merit minions were last seen being fitted for gold braided running shorts at a downtown sports store.
Marathon should hire their own damn security, instead of taking away from the city.
I don't blame the blue for not signing up.

Johnson screwed up royally by moving Georgas, that is only because JAG BALLS ROUSELL hates Georgas, why? Because when Rousell wad Commander of MSF he would continually undermine Georgas and go die tly to Weiss who liked Rousell. Dirty pitics that will fuck up.all these events. I'm no fan of inspectors, but you do realize that's their job, right? Wear the uniform, shave, and don't give them an easy one. If you take a hit for a beard, no vest, white socks, etc., IT'S YOUR FAULT! Dumbass. You sound like a whiny bitch. If you write a parker or mover, did the person deserve it or are you just being an asshole like the inspectors?
They had the Cuban Fest at Riis Park several weeks ago and the park district allowed them to close the parking lot and park cars in the lot, on the grass and in the tennis court. Deputy director of Revenue also allowed the private company to charge $30.00 for each car parking on the grass, lot or tennis court. Where is the Inspector General???
FYI Incase someone missed it, some murderous asshole tried bombing a Marine and Sailor Marathon in Jersey.

The bomb was placed in a trashcan. If you do work ours, be careful, inspect your surroundings and the people carefully. The reason this bomb missed killing anyone was the start was held up, and the bomb went off before they got to it. Thank God!

Hate to say it but I agree. Most of us look like shit and the uniform is not uniform among the officers. Don't like the extra attention from the inspectors? Don't sign up! If you can't even follow the simple uniform policy what could you possibly be trusted with? Immature ass wipe just wear it properly. Want plain clothes? Go hide in a whole and make ghost dispersals then suck up to the tact guy with many years on the job who enjoy lying and spreading rumors. Then you'll be tact ready. Until then wear your shit right and pretend to be somewhat professional.
Last year they never checked the radios that they handed out were charged. Most started to chirp when turned on and were dead within the first 2 -3 hoirs !
Worked it last year. First thing in the morning anyone who didn't have that stupid fuckin green slime vest with them got sparred. But then they did have extras on hand to make sure you did look stupid on your post. You had to leave your id card so now at the end of day you had to go back to 35 th to retrieve it. And I don't want to hear the bullshit that they did warn you ahead of time to bring it with. YOU DO NOT NEED that fuckin vest to be the standing on the corner police. Oh I forgot to add if your lt that you kiss their ass is also assigned you get put on a post at the beginning of race go home early
We had a chickenshit Sgt from 020. Cant remember his name right now but he drove back and forth on our posts every five to ten minutes making sure we stood for almost twelve hours. No lunch either. But I'm sure he got his.
Most inspectors are good people. They just want to do a good job and help people. Three cheers for inspectors. Hoorah Hoorah Hoorah !!

For those who say the marathon should pony up for its security: they do. The city passes the security bill onto the marathon who pays for it out of its budget. The race director, Carey Pinkowski, is a big supporter of police. So he opts to hire police at, what 4x, maybe 5x what he could get a private firm to do? Also, hiring city police when your event takes place in the city tends to make things go more smoothly on race day and is good pr.
Ran it three times, worked it twice.
It's easier to run it than work it.
It can be a long day if ur near the end.
It's still better than most details tho
We should hold out for double time.
The detail flat out sucks.
