Shots Fired
- It's uncommon for police officers to witness a killing, but Friday night, Chicago police say, gang unit officers watched a fatal shooting unfold on the streets of Humboldt Park.
Before it was over, officers intervened and fired shots. A second person was injured by gunfire, possibly from police, though ballistics testing will be needed to confirm that, according to a police source.
About 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers near Division Street and Maplewood Avenue saw a vehicle drive by a restaurant and at least one occupant open fire, according to a law enforcement source. A male — who was standing in front of the restaurant or had just left it — pulled a gun and began firing toward the vehicle, according to the source.
Sounds like self-defense.
- Soon after, a teen was found fatally shot in a car farther west on Division Street, police said. He is believed to have been killed in the gunfire that the officers originally witnessed, police said.
Police said the victim was a 17-year-old boy, but the Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Louis Rodriguez, 18, of the 1300 block of North Oakley Boulevard. Family members declined to comment Saturday.
The teen was seen circling the area prior to shots being fired, according to police. Police also said the vehicle was stolen, and the teen was a documented gang member.
Um, the dead kid was the "offender." Shooting at the victim at the restaurant is illegal last time we checked. Tribune reporters - you really should be making the effort to get that part correct.

Another one bites the dust!
It's all the gun's fault. The gun walked out of its owner's house, stole a car and kidnapped Louis Rodriguez, then drove around and forced Louis to fire the gun. If only the gun had not walked out of that house. All the gun's fault.
The guy who returned fire is a banger, too. The Spanish Cobras and MLDs have been going at it for months. The "restaurant" is a known gang hang out and there has been gunfire exchanged right there before. As a resident of the area I'm pretty surprised a cop is defending the shithead without knowing the situation. Especially as it makes it sound like the officer (female is who I saw shoot) did something wrong.
Oh and right across from the taco stand is Ald Maldonado's office. Maybe now 12 and 13 will get the officers we've been promised.
All of this is alleged of course. The deceased may be pure as Ivory Soap, and was shot by folks unknown and for reasons unknown. Life in the big city is often tangled and convoluted.
Did you notice the headline of the tribune about the shooting.. "Police open fire after witnessing shooting". What a bunch of weenies these reporters are. It's not police witness shooting or police in gun battle with a shooter. It's the mean policeman opens fire. How proud these reporters fathers must be to raise such darling sweet boys that have to be held until the bad policeman goes away..... What a bunch of bitches.
I see the news failed to report that the good Samaritan firing back at the vehicle, and subsequently shot by the police was an off duty paramedic with a CCL.
Whoops! Poor copper couldn't know that dude was legit in the heat of the moment. Thank God he was only winged in the leg.
Now what remains to be seen is whether he's a standup type of citizen (as one might expect based on his actions) or if he's going to go for the Ghetto Lottery.
Obviously this is all lies. Two groups of fine upstanding youths were having a spiritual meeting on the street. The racist police happened on the meeting and began shooting at the poor innocent minorities because they are trigger happy racist murderers.

One observation - if you are a CCW holder, please put your weapon down once police are arriving. Loudly announce that you have a CCW permit. During the initial arrival & investigation, it is hard to determine if you are friend or foe.

A friend who worked the gang unit was in northern Wisconsin in July doing work on a County road. A car pulls up and the driver is asking for directions to a property that is for sale. As he is giving directions, he identifies two males who are Latin Kings from the 14th dist. He thinks their trying to buy property with drug money to lay low when the heat is on in Chicago. The last time he looked, that property was not sold.

Back in the day, we were at roll call in the old Maxwell St. StATION. hot summer night 430 PM. No air back then. A couple arguing on the street . The women pulled out her male companion a gun and emptied into her male friend as 20 detectives watched. She didnt even run. Case closed
Now are the gang officers stripped? How big is that room they keep these officers on 30 day paid admin leave? Interesting, as I asked higher ups in CFD and the response was no member of CFD was involved in the shootout. Perhaps he's from a suburb?
Some very important questions have not been answered yet in this scenario. How is the food at the restaurant and are they good to the Police and Fire Departments? Heard the chimichangas are to die for...

A problem since time began, N.Y.P.D. used to have the color of the day for plain clothes people to wear some item of and everybody was told what it was at roll call. I remember radio traffic in this neck of the woods with smart people barking,"responding cars be advised plain clothes Officers in the area use caution." I guess with all the Bat man gear the non uniform Police wear now I.D. might not be as much of a problem but please remember there are all kinds of good guys out there armed. Yes protect yourself but keep in mind he/she might not be an offender but Off-duty (like you 16 hours a day),retired, other jurisdiction and now legally armed CCL member of the public (your Mother,Father,Wife/Husband neighbor.) If possible take cover and challenge,nobody wants to blow up a good guy by mistake and both of you are stressed to hell and back in this type of tender moment and common sense like Elvis has left the building.I will put it down and be screaming Retired P.O with my hands up, others might be frozen but are a good guy. Another impossible situation for an Officer that only another Copper can understand. God bless and use your head

You should refrain from posting shit like this when you know absolutely nothing about the case. How exactly did you determine that the police shot anyone? How did you determine that the paramedic was a good Samaritan? How many times was the dead guy shot? Where did the guns go? Try to include some facts in your post or just shut the fuck up.

They are renters and just moved in a month ago. Neighbors aren't real happy with the dozens of shitheads who are coming to pay condolences. 14 has had to park a squad nearby.
Thee CCL did not get shot by the Police. He was shot by the dead gangmember 6 times. The CCL was defending himself and was lucky enough to get some rounds off to eliminate the threat. The gangmember died, the CCL survived. The CCL was not shot by the police. The police did let shots go at the gun fight but did not hit anyone. Its a good shoot for the CCL no police hurt, and the Gangmember has been eliminated. Its a Win for the Good guys.

Good Samaratin my ass!! The "Good Samaritan" is a gang-banger, convivcted felon, who used a fake ID to get his CCL. Fortunately, he doesn't work for CFD, but a private ambulance company (great background check...NOT!!).
Glad the officers are ok this is just another fine example of how the shit head gang bangers have turned this city into their arena.
The alderman there is a total kiss ass to the gangs. He needs tgen to be reelected. The taco stand is a drug hangout.
