Good Idea!
- The party could soon be over for party buses decried as “rolling tinder boxes” filled with inebriated patrons dropped off at bars and nightclubs to drink even more.
At the behest of downtown Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd), the City Council’s License Committee on Thursday advanced a crackdown that would literally require those bus drivers to take “corrective action” that ranges from evicting the inebriated offender to terminating the trip and returning all passengers to the “point of origin.”
Prior to the final vote, Reilly described a harrowing incident that occurred over Labor Day weekend at the Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald’s in River North to justify holding party bus drivers, and ultimately company owners, responsible for the behavior of their customers.
“Two trolleys were side-by-side in the lane of traffic and the guests on each trolley were taunting each other and yelling at each other and threatening one another and ultimately, a firearm was discharged. Police were very responsive and they managed it. But they also had to deal with 80 very drunk trolley passengers,” Reilly said.

Who else would rent the trolley? That is where the business is today. They could use the trolley for Chicago architecture tours for visitors. Ghetto people rent hotel rooms and trolley to party. Its cheap and its ghetto!
Ummm, SCC you do realize that TSA checkpoints are mere security theater right? Plenty of stuff gets past them every day. And lots of it is smuggled in by the innovative people that are "trusted" to work at the airport - some of whom are likely on the Partay Bus...
The only way to solve this particular problem is to prohibit them altogether.
People are just out to have a good time and let off a little steam. Leave them alone.
Was downtown on N. Michigan Avenue on Wednesday afternoon for a meeting. (I haven't been on N. Michigan Avenue for a couple of years.)
I was a little shocked walking past the Bank of America cash station south of the Marriott and Nordstrom's, seeing an armed guard standing in front of it. It did not give me a warm feeling seeing him there.
Also saw a bum (OK - homeless person) sitting not too far away asking for money.
What the HELL is happening on N. Michigan Avenue? You can't "clear" the sidewalk of this guy?
Two CPD vehicles were stopped by the Starbucks right there (getting coffee of course).
Someone (high up) has to institute a policy - NO BUMS on N. Michigan Avenue. That is NOT good for tourism, more importantly, that is NOT good for someone coming in to do business in the City.
Would hate to be the driver of a bus filled with drunked and doped up Amish that they have to end the trip and get put off the bus. Should make for a few dead bus drivers no ?
Apparently the bus companies have not drop enough envelopes into the campaign coffers of the aldercreatures. The owners have not learned the Chicago Way of doing business.
Obviously somebody is making money hand over fist with those party buses.
They truly are rolling cesspools and rolling tinder boxes.
"These companies are going to have to run TSA-type checkpoints prior to loading the buses to look for dope, liquor and guns."
That'll kill the whole thing off right there. I mean, what would be the point anymore?
Didn't someone get shot outside the McCormick place hotel off one of these "excursions?"
Astonishing how the poor and disadvantaged and disenfranchised get around town, isn't it?
Didn't someone once want that McDonald's closed down as a nuisance?
It's those damned Amish and Rumspringa!
Why do I have the feeling it wasn't folks from Peoria and Champaign dissing each other in the McDonalds parking lot?

At some point people, probably you and your friends, voted in a Mayor that said it was their right to beg on Michigan Avenue. You also voted for a judge that sat on the bench that agreed he had a right to be there. You also said nothing when the bottom feeding lawyer made money suing the city on that bustout's behalf. You probably thought they were championing his cause. No. They were just picking your pocket.
Wait, you don't remember that. That's because you weren't involved in things that really matter in your life and you allowed it to happen. You probably agreed that the police needed reigning in. You probably didn't pay attention when father faker shouted, shook his fist and demanded you give up your tax dollars so the under worked could have more, more, more of what they want but don't deserve.
Pay attention and vote accordingly. You have no one to blame but yourself.
I thought the Amish only rode on buggies.
I use the term "bum" in a much different way....like the English.

That homeless person is exercising their first amendment right of free speech. If you were only by Nordstrom, I'm sure you only saw one or two dirtying up the Avenue. You shoulda walked north a bit where there's normally multiple people standing on all four corners of Michigan/Chicago. Unless they're break the panhandling ordinance, they're not going anywhere.

Hey, dumbfuck "taypayer" from the suburbs, you can't just enact a "no bums on Michigan Ave" policy. Bums are useless, dirty, smelly, insane, diseased, addicts. But they're people. People have rights. If you can walk around or sit around on Michigan Ave, so can they.
As for the armed guard you saw, was there also an armored car outside? The guard was likely there to facilitate the transfer of money between the bank and the armored car. They do that in even the quietest of suburbs too.
As for the cop cars by Starbucks, police are allowed to drink and eat things. These things include coffee. Do you drink coffee? Does anyone judge your stupid ass when you park by Starbucks to get your coffee? No, they don't. "I pay taxes! How dare those public servants loaf around drinking coffee when I'm paying them to work!" Did you actually even see them "getting coffee of course" or did you just assume? Was there a disturbance call at the Starbucks? Was there an alarm? Was there a call of a theft or some damage to property? You don't know, do you?
You know what's not good for tourism? Robberies, shootings, beatings, car thefts, and murders. The bums on Michigan Avenue aren't even a pimple on the ass of the real problem. You'd shit your pants from J Crew if you met the real problem of a roving band of black teens robbing and beating and groping citizens and tourists. Stay in the suburbs and complain about police at the Starbucks by your house. Whine to your employer about how you didn't feel safe or loved or coddled when you ventured into the big city, so maybe your next meeting will be held somewhere less scary for you.
Ban the fucking things. The buses I mean. "when all else fails, resort to harsh repression" Good advise from one commie to the other ones running things here.
You do realize all this kind of shit will continue under another clinton administration.
I listened to this Ald. bitch telling the news about the new rules. She whats the bus driver to have a list of the passengers so if something goes wrong the list of names could be used by the police to identify the offender. What wrong doer is going to give you his name, there only going to give you a phony ID and you will never know who this fuck is when investigating.
Blame the drivers, blame the company. How about blaming the fuckhead ghetto rats on the damn bus.
This will never pass. All the bus companies won't go along with this. Last minute bookings cost the people around $800 for three hours. Or the bus just makes up their own price and take money while knowing they have to deal with the Amish nonsense. The company will always risk it for the money. And wouldn't they? A simple 911 call can throw the people off after an hour because the Amish violated the contract with smoking weed on the bus. Boom, $800/hr rate.
12:37am.....Are you serious??? We ll get out of Starbucks and force the "bum" to move along just as soon as you put in writing that ull pay all lawyers fees and take care of our families for life, after the Federal Violation of Civil Rights lawsuit comes down. I'm no fan of seeing panhandlers everywhere but the law has said they're able to as long as they're not being aggressive. Grow a pair and shut up....if you don't like the environment here, stay in Mayberry.

And have the coppers arrest the bum for? Ask him to leave for?
Sgt V 3rd watch 001 hates those buses!
Probably cause he was never invited on one when he was a youngster?
Ummm excuse me "Mr. taypayer." BOA pays for their own armed security to protect their assets and customers, so you can take it up with them. There have been panhandlers on N Mich for as long as the money has been flowing, so you can feel free to violate someone's rights and the city of Chicago panhandle ordinance. Within seconds of one of us approaching any panhandlers in 001/018 there are multiple cell phones taking video of the encounter, and most of us are not risking our livelyhood for this non-crime so unless you would like to remain on scene to sign complaints or an ordinance violation, stay in the suburbs.
you as the police can stop one of these "party buses" and take a look inside. they are not exempt from the law for transporting open liquor, write the driver a citation. a few of these and i bet these companies start policing themselves
Isn't it amazing how the other half tailgates?
Not judging, just saying.

Sure, we'll just relocate them to the suburbs.
It'll be much more passive Sat. nights without the gangster Bus's rolling.
A busload of twenty-somethings who think screaming "woo!" at the top of their lungs is the funniest thing in the world. What could go wrong?

Just how would you suggest legally enforcing such a policy?
Court ruled you can't make the homeless move from the public way..being homeless is not a crime.
You can throw down on a Party Bus at the Rock N' Roll MacDonald's , because the Beastie Boys fought for that kind of thing. I gots a feelin' alot of shit was ordered off the Dolla' menu after the gunshots erupted.

Welcome to the PC Pussification of America and Law Enforcement. You can't move Junkies, homeless, or pissbums anywhere without some douche saying the police are racist, or that CPD is violating the civil rights of said Miscreant. Move them yourselves is our new policy. Get on the horn to BLM, Jesse, and Fr. Phleger for guidance....i'm sure they'll come a' runnin' to assist you.

Thank you for visiting The Mag Mile. Welcome!
Bum on the sidewalk, maybe you should propose this to The City, I'm sure they'll listen to you!, but remember "Bum Lives Matter".
As for our 1st responders having coffee. Maybe you should've bought them a damn cup of coffee. If you haven't heard police all over the country are being villified, targeted and killed.
And lastly "lucky for you" you had a Bank of America guard at the ATM or you might have been bopped upside the head for your money or cell and now in a coma on life support at intensive care at Northwestern surrounded by your loved ones from the suburbs.
So a warm welcome to Chicago
you as the police can stop one of these "party buses" and take a look inside. they are not exempt from the law for transporting open liquor, write the driver a citation. a few of these and i bet these companies start policing themselves

actually the law specifically allows for drinking in a limo or chartered bus as long as the driver is not drinking.
See 625 ILCS 5/11-502 paragraph (c)

The bus companies cater to shit bird ghetto rats. The most corrupt alderman of all is Reilly. He takes money from all the bars making out like bandits from these ghetto transports. He talks big but he's part of the problem. He also takes money from every developed and especially Waterton associates, as does Rahm, which has building code violations and violators of zoning. Reilly is of course protected by Madigan and Rahm.
I prefer the party train by The Gap Band.
You are not politically correct in your use of the word "Bum". I believe they are called homeless. Bums I mean homeless lives matter also.
Most European Cities charge a special fee
for your busses to enter the busy economic
areas.
The fines are hefty against the bus driver, up to
Losing their drivers license if they don't have the
necessary permit.
Rahms taxing everything else, tax these buses
, maybe they'll just go to the suburbs with
their shit bird passengers'
WOW - did I hit a nerve or what?
Some of you are SO defensive you can tell you work in a cloutocracy full of yes-men and over-promoted mediocrity. My observation about N. Michigan is right on target.
Good cops are too afraid to do anything because of some liberal taking a video of them helping the homeless guy (Bum) get to a sidestreet.
That is a clear example of a lack of leadership (and back-up)both in the CPD as well as the Mayor's Office. Some of you don't know what good leadership is - you never had any.
WAKE UP. The city can ignore the problems and look the other way but the bottom line is CASH. As more people (suburbanites, out-of-towners, foreigners) avoid Chicago, revenues will go down.
The Tooth Fairy doesn't pay your salaries - tax revenues do. Revenues start dropping because more people stop shopping, you can kiss your raises and overtime good-bye.
Just watched a documentary on the BBC tonight. It was on the Streets of Chicago. Someone British newsperson from the BBC came over and shot a documentary about the South and West sides. That is how "famous" Chicago's violence is getting.
As to your "responses" ---
"Welcome to the PC Pussification of America and Law Enforcement."
--- TOTALLY agree with this response. In our suburb, we put a Shotgun AND an M4 in EVERY car. We don't believe our police should ever be under-gunned. I guess we didn't get the Memo about PC?
"At some point people, probably you and your friends, voted in a Mayor that said it was their right to beg on Michigan Avenue. -----Sorry but your "assessment" is totally wrong. If I lived in Chicago/ Cook County, I would vote ALL the incumbents OUT. The BIG QUESTION is - How come YOU haven't???
"Hey, dumbfuck "taypayer" from the suburbs, ...."
-------------- I won't respond to you at the same low level you made your remarks. First, I don't buy my coffee at Starbucks and I don't shop at J Crewe.
As for OUR police - read my first comment. We support our police - totally. Maybe you should come work for us?? As to coming to the City - I've been in ALL the neighborhoods - even places you wouldn't drive through, tough guy.
My observation is that N. Michigan is special and should NOT have this riff-raff on the streets. AND, you can enact laws to do that - you just need the right government to do it.
Chicago doesn't need 50 rubberstamp Aldermen, they can survive with 20. The money saved can go to pay for more police - REAL police - on the street.

Walk past and be thankful it's not you.
You never had to walk through the old Skid Row, LaSalle, Van Buren, South State. Did it every day going to my first job at 16. Never worried; a lot of those guys were visibly dying on their feet, you could have pushed them over with your index finger.
So instead of fixing up, building safe, cheap SROs, we got rid of them all. No big money in it. Now the former residents are on the sidewalks. There's a big surprise.

No, you didn't hit a nerve. You just made yourself sound so ridiculously stupid and uninformed that many of us had to respond. What you somehow still don't understand, even after having it spelled out for you, is that you can't just ban "bums" from Michigan Avenue. Again, they are people, and they have the same right to be there as you do. You also missed my point about the coffee. I didn't say you buy your coffee at Starbucks, nor do I care where you buy it. My point was that the police are allowed to get coffee, even while they're at work, much like yourself. Your idiotic judgement of them for doing so was the issue, especially considering the fact that you don't know why they were there. You assumed. I also don't care where you buy the pants that you shit and piss in when you're scared in the big city. I've lived here all my life and been to every part of the city, so your attempt to sound like a tough guy because you've been to places I haven't has failed. You visit the city and get your panties in a bunch because you see homeless people and "riff-raff." I highly doubt you're as tough as you think you are. Now for a final point, which you still won't understand: you can't enact laws to take away civil rights. You can't remove the rights of a person to walk down a public sidewalk or sit on the public way just because you've decided that you're a special snowflake and you don't want to see them on your special stretch of Michigan Avenue. In short, you're a clueless fucking moron who should stay in the suburbs. You know nothing about the law or policing. Your opinions are uneducated, uniformed, misguided, and worthless. I hope you get to experience some of the real problems in this city on your next visit.
