More Brilliant Reporting
- An unprecedented analysis by the Chicago Tribune of every police shooting from 2010 through 2015, in fact, found that foot chases played a role in more than a third of the 235 cases that ended with someone wounded or killed.
About half of the pursuits began routinely — as police attempted to stop or question people for curfew violations, public drinking, thefts, disturbance calls or other minor offenses, the Tribune found. According to the analysis, nearly a quarter of those killed by police during foot chases were struck only in the back, a factor often cited later in civil rights lawsuits questioning the threat actually posed to officers.
So police stop people, based on suspicious (or criminal) behavior, and those who are caught dirty, run? Stop the presses!
The Trib barely touches on the fact that in 84% of the cases, a gun was recovered and don't mention knifes, bludgeons or other weapons, including cars. Instead, they fall into the predictably liberal trap of equating racial population with a disproportionate number of minorities shot, when a factual study should take into consideration the participation rate in criminal acts. But that would screw up the narrative.
The Trib also ventures into the fever swamps and question whether foot chases shouldn't be regulated by some sort of "balancing test" similar to that for vehicle chases. That gets shot down by the Department and the FOP.
And finally, they make a lot of hay over the "shot in the back" narrative. Nothing in the Orders or Law says you have to shoot someone in the front of the body. Nothing says you have to take a bullet before returning fire. The Tribune "reporters" completely gloss over the fact that a copper can lawfully use deadly force to protect the "life of another," so that if the criminal is brandishing the weapon at someone else, a cop can lawfully shoot the offender anywhere a target presents itself - front, side, head, leg, and yes, back.
When someone realizes the police are shooting back at them, they usually don't stand there and take it - they attempt to flee, and again, legally, you can shoot them where ever you can.
We certainly hope everyone has cancelled their subscriptions already.

The most fun I have every day is waiting for the clock to say its Midnight.
Then I read SCC where I find what the silly newspapers are saying what we did or did not do today in the CPD.
Why buy a paper or online subscription?
Ask the dumbass to name one actual case he has concerns with.

He should have been awarded a medal for defending himself against robber Michael Brown. The "Gentle Giant" was heavier than all NFL linebackers and defensive ends. He attempted to disarm Officer Wilson. Add to that, we all now know that "Hands Up; Don't Shoot" was a myth concocted by Brown's accomplice in the robbery minutes earlier.

Anita Alvarez covered this in depth when the McDonald video went out and there was a rash of police involved shooting videos released. She showed numerous videos showing offeders shooting AT THE POLICE as they were running away!
The Police do not create "law and order".
The People do.
The Police are hired by the people to maintain "law and order".
The People have to restore law and order thru any means necessary, even "outside of the law". (Because there is no "law and order".
Once the criminals get the message, the police can return to maintain "law and order".
The government derives it's power from the people, this means the people are responsible for "law and order" BEFORE the government.
Terminate the foot chase!
Time and Time again, Force Science Institute has proven through research and scenarios recorded on video, that the time required to draw, point and discharge a firearm CAN result in someone being shot in the back; even though the person was facing the shooter when the action began. So, someone can be aiming a weapon at you, and even discharging the weapon, then turning and fleeing,yet your response time would be such that the projectile strikes the offender in the back. In addition, this shooting someone in the back as being "Wrong", is something out of Hollywood Cowboy Movies. Apparently there is some Code of the West, where you can never justify shooting another cowboy in the back. So I guess if you commit a violent crime, turn and flee, you are home free, because under The Code of the West, adopted by the Media and General Public Ignorance, you cannot be shot in the back! As absurd as this sounds, I would venture to say most people believe this concept that shooting someone in the back is Cowardly or Wrong under all circumstances! Not certain what an online subscription costs on it's own. I'm a retired wheelgun and am enough of a dinosaur that I actually like to have morning coffee, meds, breakfast with a print paper on my table and not an electronic screen.

I differ from SCC and promote the idea that coppers take over the comment boards on police related articles and rattle the cages of some true morons who post there. It can be fun from that perspective but you can also post comments that open the eyes of those who are fence sitters.

We have two officers on our watch to chase after kids because of curfew violations. Unreal!!! Now chances are, they are probably dirty or they are carrying a gun or God knows what. Unless you are chasing a child rapist or a murderer, the department will hang you if you fuck up.
Forceable Felons fleeing, person(s) with a weapon fleeing, a prisoner trying to escape and more, all can be shot and killed. You can shoot them anywhere to apprehend them in the process of an arrest. People on the south and west side should be schooled on the use of deadly force and just maybe they would think twice about not complying with a police order

How come the "reporter" did not leave his mind open to the fact that the person who runs from the Police is displaying his will to be not taken at any cost? It is a display of desperation from the onset. The Police are trained to be fluid to the situation. In many instances as the bad guy continues to ramp up his attempts to defeat his arrest it causes the response to be ratcheted up in the use of force paradigm. The outcome is controlled by the offender. How come people refuse to see that? Or is it that they do not want to see it because it does not fit the narrative?

Had Use of Force training with a VERY knowledgeable instructor that related a TRUE story of a railroad cop OIS. The cop was chased by some bum that got the drop on him by a freight car and was armed with a hammer and, as the cop was running away, he fired his gun as his arm swung back. In a few moments he realized the guy was no longer chasing him and returned to find the guy dead with a bullet hole in his forehead.
The instructors point was to make us realize that just because a person is running away from you with a gun doesn't mean that they're not a deadly threat. The MSM morons, and the public for the most part, have NO understanding of Use of Force or the law as they pertain to police shootings.

Yeah, every police involves shooting involves a foot chase. Cops don't do drive by. Cops don't do sniper attacks. Cops get out of their squads and give you a chance to surrender peacefully. When a society descends to the point of making utter defiance of the rule of law, of societies collective will, a safe choice it becomes a dangerous place to be. We are at that point, felons know to flee in a vehicle and they won't be chased because society now blames the police rather than the felon for bad outcomes. Politicians openly spin, lie, shade the truth without consequence. And now we should not chase an offender on foot unless requirements are met? Nobody is blazing rounds at kids running for curfew violations, that is a strawman. Sad times.
So the thugs adapt and learn that in they start running, point their Glock under their opposite shoulder and blindfire at the pursuing officers who aren't allowed to "shoot them in the back" then they're golden.
This is why everyone should have to fight for their life just once, so that they get a taste of the real world before they start forming bulls#!t opinions.

They were able to figure out that 1/3 of the shootings started out as a foot pursuit, but missed the fact that 3/3 of the shootings started out as criminals trying to get away from police to prevent their arrest. How could they miss something so obvious? Are all journalists that obtuse?
