Black Cops "Not Black"
- One of the craziest things to come out of the Keith Scott shooting in Charleston, NC is the idea that it is racist for a black police officer to use deadly force on an armed black man. A local branch of the NAACP, in its infinite wisdom, has come up with a foolproof way around this little problem. According to the organization, black cops are not real black people so therefore it is racist when they shoot actual black people.
The local NAACP is not convinced the Scott shooting was justified, despite multiple videos showing that he was armed. Even the facts that a gun was recovered from the scene and that Scott was illegally carrying a weapon when police shot him has done nothing to persuade them.
On Tuesday the NAACP made a list of demands to the Charlotte police department to ensure black police officers never again shoot and kill threatening armed black men. As reported by WCNC, the organization that supposedly represents black people dropped this bomb:
“Many black people who become police officers become blue, not black. In order for you to survive in a police department, you take on the police department’s ideology, ways of life, and culture,” said an NAACP representative.
Well, we're sure that's a comfort to all of the black (and brown, yellow, red, gray, green and purple) officers we serve with day in and day out. You are now officially "other" and probably racist to boot.

Black cop here. I've always known this was the sentiment of a very few in the black community. But I think you may be taking the words out of context here(speaking solely to the quote in question). It all stems back to the "code of silence" or the "blue wall of silence" or whatever people seem to believe we have. To be blunt, any white cop here who has had a black partner can comment on a black suspect/offender expecting the black cop to cut him/her loose at one point or another. Some simply seem to believe its color first, when its really law first lol. This is not the sentiment where I live. It is obviously known on the block I'm a cop(11 years on, not blatantly displaying it because of the current climate, but it is my community). My neighbors appreciate it. I speak for my self though. Other black (or brown, yellow red, gray, green or purple) officers feel free to feel differently.

She and the driver were black and all involved officers were black.

Hillary Clinton will be our next black president!
Maybe the NAACP wants to call black officers "colored people", since the NAACP is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
But since 'colored people' is now considered offensive (isn't it?), that might be the ultimate insult to black officers.
Never really thought about the fact that black officers are (in some ways) in a worse situation than non-black officers.

The officer was trying to break up a fight in the parking lot outside of Stadium nightclub at 16300 Dixie Highway when a man in his 20s approached him with a gun at about 3:30 a.m., police said. The officer opened fire and killed the man.
"I don't know really too much but you know, everybody got to running, everybody got to shooting, I heard about 8 shots, I see two people, two people got shot, one person dead," said witness Johnthan Smith.
Police have not confirmed if anyone else was wounded.
The Stadium nightclub used to be known as "Adrianna's" which closed and according to reports from the Chicago Tribune, at least seven people were shot, two fatally, inside or in the parking lot of Adrianna's since 2010.

I think the word the NAACP is looking for here isn't black, it is trash. In other words, black police officers are(other than a few rotten apples) decent people utterly unlike riotous black thugs, who are trash. In this context, the NAACP is using the word black as a synonym for trash, and thus it is true that the category doesn't fit black LEOs at all. In aligning themselves with the trash aspect of the black community, the NAACP and its ilk are stupidly ringing their own death knell. How can an institution possibly endure when it sides with the unproductive, deadbeat thugs and castigates the good, who have the resource to fill its coffers and staff its ranks?
It is interesting, because within the "white" community, we separate whites out by behavior and classify one group as trash. I think that this breakaway/change in groupings might be beginning a bit with Trump. I am not sure why we keep talking about this subject like it has any creedence. With the ignorance that abounds regarding these incidents it has become tiresome and at times, borderline comical. I worked in the ghetto for many years before retiring. There are many (actually the majority) people who live there because they are trapped by economics. They hate the gangbangers as much as cops do! They hate the crime, they hate the ensuing disorder and nonsense as a result of justified police shootings. But they are terrified to say anything because of potential retaliation from the local gangs. Maybe the media should take the time to investigate that angle instead of stirring the pot with its biased reporting of incidents.

This highlights a big problem for the African-American community. When so-called respected voices within the black community make arguments like this, what they are basically saying is that Keith Scott is acting the way a black man should act but a police officer who happens to be black is not. Think about that for a second - let it sink in. What they are saying is that, in order to be afforded the right to call yourself black, you can be a law breaking, non-compliant, gun toting wife beater, ala Keith Scott, but you cannot be an honorable, hard working, law abiding, law enforcing, community saving, public servant police officer. The former is "black" and the latter is "blue" or "not black" or "not black enough". And yet people wonder why the African American community is suffering from fatherless households, disproportionately high crime and victimization, poverty and lack of education and jobs. Well there you have it. The ethos is wrong and, unless it changes, and the so-called leaders change, the future does not look particularly bright.
