Not a Good Start

At 5:30 AM yesterday morning, a Starbucks opened in Englewood to great fanfare.

At 8:30 AM yesterday morning, a Whole Foods opened up in Englewood.

At 6:17, the Starbucks was stuck-up.

At 9:45 the first dispatch of "Shots Fired" was called in at the bakery, supposedly over some "pumpkin spice muffins." Or heroin.

You know, for a second there, you believed us.

Oh. What happened to that other grocery store someone else was going to build out that way, when "protesters" vandalized the job site and threatened workers because the contractors hadn't hired enough unskilled and unemployable-because-no-one-tell-me-how-to-do locals?

Did they even finish the place, or is there still just a flattened-out spot with a few broken cinder blocks laying around?

Back in the day there was a McDonalds across the street from Cabrini, right by where Near North is now. I was in housing north at the time and the grand opening was at 11am one Monday morning. About 130pm that afternoon the place was robbed by 2 guys who ran back into the Green. About 10pm that night it was robbed again. Truth is always stranger than fiction and this is the truth.

The experience I had in low-income retail showed me the biggest expense after wages and benefits was "shrinkage". A nice word for shoplifting and employee theft.

Darn it SCC, YES, you sure did have me. But seriously, I hope this is successful.

I used to love going there back in the mid-later 1950's. 63rd and Halsted used to be a great place for shopping -- I got my first pair of eye glasses from a place there and we bought one of the first Stereo Record players from a store there too in 1957 or 1958. A big honkin' Motorolo 'portable' -- weighed about 40 pounds, so much for portable LOL. But then we had to search the city for an actual Stereo Record. A Johnny Mathis LP was it, everything else was 'Hi-Fi'. Oh, the 1st Chipmunks LP was in stereo too and got that LP also.

And that beautiful Movie Theater that was there was a Palace. It could match the theaters in The Loop with no problem. I seem to recall they had Live Swans in a pool on the ground floor too.

So really I hope the gangbangers & homies don't screw this up. This will be the last chance for that 'hood.

But, people deserve fresh food and a good shopping experience. I imagine no one is willing to take the chance. I wonder where all of the black money is ? Crooked Hillary is in town. You think she would be singing the praises of government bringing sustenance in Englewood’s food desert to this community of color. Supplemental nutrition assistance for people (SNAP) and Joe Biden’s three lettered (J-O-B-S) broken promise long awaited high tech jobs for the 21st Century.

Instead she shakesdown the lawyers for Crooked Hillary with her confiscatory speaking fees bypassing the little people of Englewood highlighting a crowning government funded achievement. Hillary wants money and absolute power. Her candidacy should not highlight the resulting public policy driven carnage and cratered out moonlike landscape which is symbolic of inner city democrat control.

Instead her speech will fetch millions with her established political influence in her coronation to be top dog. Hillary doesn’t care about the people of color in Englewood. Her theme is “show me the Wall Street sized campaign legally contributed money.” Millions in speaking fees and not a single cell phone video recording or body worn camera video/audio by her extensive elaborate security detail of her paid in full million dollar speeches for the uber rich movers and shakers. Crooked Hillary says: "Show me the Wall Street sized campaign contributions." If only the people and folks of Englewood could contribute as much to give them access to top level government officials. And she talks about giving the people of color a voice. Maybe if they were if they were involved in the lawyer side of the criminal justice industrial complex not the defendant side.

I asked him why their corporation would operate a store like that. He said they had to or it would look bad for the corporation. They just pass the loss along to the paying customers. That's the world we live in. Give, give, give to people that just keep taking.

I have a good friend in restaurant management that informed me that the majority of patrons at the restaurant chain are welfare mommas and their boyriends, along with the welfare chilrun. But also, that these same mommas keep the restaurants afloat because of the loads of welfare money that they have to spend at restaurants that the average working family cannot afford.

The one good thing though my friend said was that their welfare money helps somewhat to recycle some of the taxes paid by the restaurants.

Crime at retailers does not discriminate. One suburban police department maintains a Kohl's retail theft "room" due to the volume of young suburban 20 somethings ripping them off blind. Also, Google Walmart and crime---there are numerous rural and suburban cop shops overwhelmed by the calls for service at these Wallywolds. Walmart is being taken to task for costing tax payers so much in policing and overtime. There was also a recent Business Week article on the subject. Walmart just can't get a handle on the crime in their stores....Unfortunate.

LOL!

Remember what happened to the McDonald's on 4200 Madison back in the day?

Store management got stupid with The Police?

(Silly rumors abound and what not, but whatever.
All's fair... Right?)

The Police left them alone on their "island..."

>Theme from Jaws<

We lost count but they got robbed like every other day for two weeks...
Nobody hurt... Just lots of soiled undies thrown out with the trash.

Whooo! Commando!

"WHAAAAAH!
PUHLEEEEEZE STOP BY AND PATRONIZE OUR STORE!"

Sometimes... Unscheduled funny is the best...

And you KNOW kinky financing and dirty-assed subsidizing
is the plan to keep Whole Foods afloat in Englehood.

Kinda like when m/fers used to hit the jackpot
robbing rail cars...

"Why the fuck are all these assholes running hither and yon
with shopping carts full of stuff?"

We'll never forget years ago, some "road scholars" uncoupling two
Brach's Candy box cars from the rest of the train.

Inside of two weeks, every tooth a half mile
in every direction was rotten to the gums...

Whole Foods Loss Prevention is gonna
be crying for mercy.

"Oh God! Please make it STOP!"

Within a year of Rahm finally leaving office,
they'll vacate under dark of night and weld
the shutters closed.

M/Fers will STILL reverse a stolen work van through
the back wall out of pure spite.

"HAHAHAHA! WHOOOO!"
>SCREEEEE! BOOOOM!<

Speaking of the Cabrini-O'Greenie MacDonalds (opened in 1971 & closed for 'financial losses'. I remember the slab (the ubiquitous westside Elmo's tombstone) where it once stood many years ago.
I wonder if mayoral candidate Willie Wilson had that franchise?
Just think of that, ol' Willie could have been our Mayor.

100% true. The news even rubbed in in our faces. Englewood; milk $2. Taxpaying, hard working, productive members of society; milk $5

"Excuse me...do you prosecute shoplifters at this store?"

Not silly, you all know that this will happen, each thug add lazy savage will walk right into that store and snatch what they want. I can't wait until some liberal white person from Hyde Park try to shop there and is victimized.and when the white employee chases dude, the shoplifter out da door. Ha ha ha, I don't shop at Whole Foods anyways.

What did Starbucks have on their cups?
Oh ya, #RaceMatters.

Never have gone, nor would I ever go to SB for over priced coffee and then tip? C'mon!
---------

I order just plain old coffee from Starbucks and it is cheaper than D&D.

-------

Maybe so, but it still tastes like someone burned the coffee beans. I'll stick with Dunkin.

Maybe they should put up OBama's library in Englewood, I'm sure it would get a lot of use.
9/29/2016 05:01:00 PM

Wonder why Obama did not pick Washington Park for his library? I wonder also but I bet it has something to do with tourists getting robbed on the way into the library or taking the train and getting robbed on the trip. Much safer on the museum campus of Jackson Park, not much, but safer.

True story, in the 90's a person decided to open a Subway Sandwich shop in 011 in a strip on Madison just east of Pulaski. We spoke to him about the thinking of such a venture but he said he knew he would make it there.
His very first customer was a gun toting robber. When he was told there was no money because they just opened he made the owner make a sandwich at gunpoint. It was a one day operation never to open there again
