What You Won't Hear
Assorted media outlets are making mountains out of molehills where the CR release is concerned. But here's the story behind the story:
- If the public only knew that the majority of the beefs are BS.
There's one in my file for "inattention to duty" it was not sustained but the title of it makes it appear that we were incompetent. The silly beef was for missing seat belts in the rear seat of our car that we didn't notice at the beginning of our tour. Cops were driving the same car for two months but finally someone noticed it, reported it, and we were last to drive it so it's on us. Dumb.
Also got a beef with the same title because the cook county jail found 1 small joint of weed in our bad guys ass. Beef automatically initiated on us even though we are not allowed to strip search and would have no reason to anyway. Unfounded but Dumb. Both these are in my file and when the media sees the title of it they say "wow bad cop" but if they read the file they would see how silly it really is, but they won't cause they don't care about the truth. The truth doesn't make a good story.
A few of us here have one like that floating around. Big deal - we took our reprimand and never heard another word about it. It wasn't serious and we didn't treat it like something serious. It was dumb, we learned, we didn't do it again, kind of like a red-light ticket. It didn't make us corrupt or crooked or prone to beating people.
But the media is going to take 30 years worth of unsubstantiated beefs, many never attested to under oath, many closed due to non-cooperation, many ridiculous on their face full of lies...and tens of thousands of others that were simply "red-light tickets" - procedural violations that were corrected and forgotten shortly thereafter.

I still don't understand how files from 1967 are still around when there is supposed to be a purge every 7 years.
"Where's the Beef?"
I guess there is a lot of old ladies on the Review Board asking questions.
The witch hunt continues...
I just read an earlier thread talking about these new COPA jobs.
I thought the city was broke???
Why don't they downsize the Aldermen to 20 and take 10 Aldermen and their staffs and put them into COPA?
Now you have positions filled, but the net result is that you ONLY have 30 total Aldermen now and have SAVED money on 20 Aldermen and their staffs.
Now how come I can come up with this in 5 minutes and Preckwinkle needs months to come up with a stupid tax on soda to help support a bloated budget???
Oh, goody! So, the complaint some street whore made against me in the 1980's, saying I stole her food stamps (which she dropped when she slipped out of her shoes, getting ready to run from us)... now THAT is going to be public record? Scared of her pimp's reaction, she decides to point her finger at the only WHITE female cop in the vicinity; me. (I wouldn't have known what to do with a food stamp, much less steal one. Never knew what they were before the job.) Thank God IAD knew what was going on and tossed it. Nowadays, some foolish civilian review committee would send me to prison.
They have my unit wrong, my star wrong and have multiple incorrect complaints all lumped under a common name. Funny shit.
The media needs to be taken to task for their ridiculously biased, inflammatory reporting.
When's the news conference Dean?
Dean, are you there???
Here's a question that I wonder if anyone out there can truly answer. If there was a confidential CR obtained against someone and the accused never knew about it will it show up on this list released? Wether it was closed or not? If the list was released under the FOIA shouldn't all of them have been disclosed? Who has the power to omit any and on what grounds? I haven't seen the list so I don't know how much info or exactly what details have been disclosed on each department member's CR# history.
I was a recruit in the academy in 1978. We spent a few months training at the academy and then went to the districts for our street training. Back then, they sent us out for two weeks with an FTO and then returned us to the academy for two weeks of college classes by instructors from the City Colleges of Chicago. This was to be repeated four times, in other words, two weeks street, two weeks college classroom, two weeks street, two weeks college classroom etc until we completed 16 total weeks.
No problem, except that after we hit the street for our two weeks with our FTO, there was a teacher's strike at the City Colleges. We we ended up working the street for six or eight weeks straight including being detailed to the original ChicagoFest at Navy Pier for a week. When the strike was over, we were returned to the academy for the college classes.
Well, having experienced an extended period of time working the street, we all thought we were veteran cops now, so when we got back to the academy, the first thing they did was hold a strict formal inspection on the entire class. Literally dozens of us were nailed for all kinds of BS, long hair, improper uniform, unshined shoes etc. I stupidly assumed that I wouldn't need my blouse for college classes and was written up for "Failure to carry required police equipment". I refused to accept a reprimand. My Sgt in the academy couldn't believe I refused and called me downstairs to find out why. I told him that accepting it made it appear that I came to work without my gun or some other integral piece of equipment and not my blouse, which was ONLY required because we were recruits. To the Sgts credit, he offered to state in large block letters at the top of the reprimand after the "Failure to carry required police equipment" the word "BLOUSE". I signed it and sure enough, when I got back to my training district, I was red-flagged for having received a reprimand and the DC wanted to see me in his office. Fortunately, the DC actually praised me for standing up for myself and said these kinds of beefs can stick with you and people with access to my disciplinary history will form opinions of me based on a quick look.
FYI... 25 years later, that reprimand was still in my file.

Nobody ever got a beef for doing nothing.
I've got a dv beef on my file. It was when I had the gangbanging neighbor locked up his mother got a blanket cr on everyone on scene. I guess mine was marked as a dv because of our addresses? It was all explained in my to-from response to the cr and yet is still listed as a dv.
Is the FOP going to file a class action lawsuit on behalf of its current and former members that are on that list. The Dept has an obligation contractually to purge those files and they blatantly did not. Everyone on that list after the retention dates should all be suing.
The media does what the media does. No one is going to change it, so learn to deal with it.
A sad fact is i spoke to a friend of mine who is very young and retired.
He applied at a major corporation for an investigator job. The human resource department googled his name and guess what happened.
The old department CR numbers popped with flashy accusations he was rejected based on those facts.
Food for thought.
I got a CR number once for not getting a CR number on a civilian.
A statute of limitation is a law which forbids prosecutors from charging someone with a crime that was committed more than a specified number of years ago....Whew, I/F
I bet there are 100's of beefs on cops for narcotics found on their prisioners in the cook county jail during the strip search. CR automatically initiated every time. CPD can not strip search and check genitals or rectum without WC approval which won't happen and there is rarely a circumstance that would warrant it. But knowing all this a beef is still created if the county finds even a tiny amount of dope. This is in your file even though it's just SOP.
The media is listening to Loevy attorneys on this matter. And, you know how they feel. And, college professors are chiming in with their 2 cents. Nothing the cops say or their supporters will be given any weight. The liberals have their dogma and their agenda, although not factual and out of touch with reality. If you have more then a few complaints against you you are now labeled as a bad cop and you should have received heavy suspensions or been fired. I used to get one complaint a month because of the corruption going on in my district, sponsored by and covered up by the district commander. They thought they could scare me off of enforcing the law. They could not but they sure tried. Not one of those complaints ever resulted in anything except my aggravation.

Yes, now all of your friends and family will be able to read all of this and form new opinions of you. And, if you have any type of business or are in a professional field I am sure this will come up to tarnish your reputation. god help you if you ever have to testify in any court in a criminal or civil trial as the opposing attorneys will surely look up your record and try to question you in court. It is just plain wrong that cops are being treated with this special brush that violates all principles of confidentiality of personnel files that apply to the rest of the working world. I say that the personnel files, school records of every attorney and judge should now be made public.
VRI TOPIC,
While at VRI last night at 61st and Racine the LT said that everyone would be participating in a traffic mission. He then said does anyone have any questions.
A PO asked him, Can you explain what type of traffic mission will we be conducting?
The Lt(probably a cheater) then went off on a rant and rave and looked like he was about to pop a vessel.
So you as a LT ask does anyone have any questions. When someone does ask a question you go off and look like an asshole in front of everyone.
After observing this LT's irrational behavior, I participated in the traffic mission but checked off with a big fat ZERO.
Good pep talk LT, It did a lot of good.
Facts and evidence mean nothing to some people
Never let FACTS get in the way of yellow journalism.
Keep working hard tactical warriors! Now get out there and get some activity! Movers, parkers, Anov's, and curfews! If you meet your quota, maybe the city will let you work some VRI!
When I saw yesterday's Sun Times headline with its preaching of how so few get fired I realized they didn't read any of the stuff they were given. So much BS in those numbers should be the story.
03:19 - Yes, there needs to be a response from our exalted, do nothing leader who is no longer disabled. There also needs to be a grievance filed against the city for retaining the documents in the first place. But Deano is too busy trying to get up a campaign staff for re-election. "Mediocrity is my motto!" sayeth the lying Lilliputian.
Retired .38 spl +P
Sure would like to get ahold of mine for some " Shits and Grins" with the trip down Ole memory lane. Any way we can get them on file?????

Better than confronting the fact that half of the city is an unusable "no-go" zone, with so many "shooting" dots on the map in some areas that they are overlapped and stacked on top of each other in layers.
...as the bodies themselves are stacked in layers with the shiny new electric hoist at the improved Preckwinkle Morgue. County soda tax to fund Phase II of the mortuary expansion, I suppose.
A white-subsidized Whole Foods For Show dropped into the middle of it all isn't going to stop Mama from sending her nine-year-old out the door in baggy pants with the price tag still on, a too-big hat cocked sideways, doing things with his fingers...
Basic, uh, problems not being addressed here...
Oh. It must be said. If what I see in so many other places holds true, male employees at that new store will be 5% or under of the total crew. That's just the way it shakes down.
Problems...
As a civilian, I'm not really worried about officers who have 1-2 over a 20+ year career. If you were in the service like I was, you could get slapped with an Art 15 over some nonsense depending on how the winds were blowing that didn't really mean anything.
What I'm interested in are the top 25 or so officers by complaint. They could all be bogus, but that's where I'd start looking first.
Female cop and food stamps: LOL so true.
I'm policing like I'm mall security. Smile, nod, avoid conflict... I mean I de-escalate the situation whenever someone doesn't want a ticket or at shootings when the little darlings are yelling and threatening me. I aim for customer satisfaction.
It really sucks that anyone can Google your name and now they can see if you're the police.
More of what you won't hear in the clinton owned dishonest media:
barry obama weighing military options in Syria the war drums are beating loudly:
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-options-exclusiv-idUSKCN12D2B2
Russia is calling its people home (they don't accept all the illegal invaders like barry has done to ruin this country and hillary will finish destroying the USA) Putin a really tough guy not a scared community organizer is telling his people to locate bomb shelters as he believes a nuclear strike is "imminent":
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/721008/Russia-America-nuclear-war-Putin-Obama-bunker-fallout-shelter-Syria-Bashar-al-Assad
weather this is propaganda or truth, cannot be sure but it sounds serious another reason why the only vote is for Trump cannot ever trust the lying pos clintons that want totally open borders we have enough terrorists in this country now! With this going on be extremely careful on "suspicious" package calls, and always remember if an incident happens the training what little we have don't get close prepare for a "secondary" explosion which is meant to kill first responders scary times crazy how fbi caved and dishonored the bureau with what political guy comey has Done!
The validity of the complaints don't really matter. What matters is they exist. Its just another hammer the liberal media can use to show how racist and incompetent the Chicago Police are.
Why don't they do a tiny bit of investigating, and see who it is that responds to a 911 call? Or who might not be so quick to respond a second time?
J.J.
Some of my bizarre events:
- Got a CR from a husband for writing a Dom Batt report for his wife, he wanted a his own separate report...in the lockup.
- Got another for writing a Traffic Crash Report making the City garbage truck Veh. 1 for making a turn out of an alley Striking a Parked Car- Veh 2, city driver said it wasn't his fault.
- Got another for following a Sgts order to write an Ordinance Complaint (pre-ANOV) on a street vendor - who had a permit, but stopped to sell a ice cream, Sgt. says he has to keep moving and wasn't allowed to stop. Huh?
These were in early 90's, amazing how nothing changes.
Does anyone think that the new Rahm Appointed COPA will be any better than the old OPS hotline ?
I have a bunch of CRs, the typical working CRs that never went anywhere. However, a couple of them were mistitled wrong, so now when you google my name it says, Assiciating with Felons, which was just a search, Supervior responsibilities, which I'm not a Supr. A bunch were wrong and make me look bad if you google my name. I contacted the guy who won the lawsuit to get the CR S released, and who operates the website, Citizens Police Data Website, which is the public site to show all your CR S. I told the guy that these are wrong, and his response was "that's what the City game me, I have a disclaimer on the first page which says that this might not be accurate" and refused to change them. I contacted our Legal Affiars office and the FOIA unit and got the runaround and completely blown off by these incompetent desk ass clowns that have never worked the street. So not only did these goofs release our CR s, But a lot of the information is inaccurate. God forbid you get into something on the street and the media googles your name, You ll look a lot of worse then it actually is thanks to our incompetent idiots inside that can't even do their job correctly for those of us on the street.
While some of the story was pathetic, like that moron Finnegan's number of complaints, the only Cops who never get a complaint are the ones who aren't doing anything.
they missed a ton of my CR's. Thank God for horrible recording keeping by CPD. They list 19 over 30 years... I had waaay more than that.
What you won't here anymore lets say if pro-police pro-military pro-USA loses and the criminal wins you won't hear:
1) Police being supported
2) honest media the same as now "dishonest media"
3) People wanting to be in law enforcement
4) Hope for the future of this once great country
5) felons going to prison
This election is the most historic in history, for us and of course for "the children"
look at the candidates at least with Trump we have a chance. how many people have died or committed "suicide" around the clinton tenure? What did the clintons make to have well over 200 million in their so called 'foundation?" Have you read the great book written by hillarys personal secret service agent "crisis of character" and the disdain for everyone that this woman holds is unconscionable but yet I have talked to coppers promoting her! The biblical principles of right is wrong and wrong is right are the proper things for the clinton regime. You don't think things are serious in this election?
Russia is calling all it's people home, and saying nuclear war is "imminent" who do you want as commander in chief someone that disregards America and takes millions in payoffs or Trump?
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/721008/Russia-America-nuclear-war-Putin-Obama-bunker-fallout-shelter-Syria-Bashar-al-Assad
Another thing you won't hear is we are closing in on 600 murders, maybe by the end of this weekend, let's go Chicago, thanks ACLU, BLM!

Wish I could answer your question but can't.
Here's my confidential CR story. Anyone have any thoughts?
One, it was non-duty related and had a criminal tinge to it but not really a criminal accusation on any level. FOP would not help and said I should get a private lawyer.
Long story short, I talked with an IAD investigator on my own and it went away. It was so far out in left field BS that I just talked with the guy.
This issue sat around for six months before it was made known to me and I was told it was because the original investigator had a heart attack and that that was the only reason. Still, I was concerned that it was an open file for so long.
I inquired a number of times if I could get a written disposition of the case as is customary for any finalized CR number.
I never, ever, received an official outcome of my case. It just plain disappeared. I still would like to see how it was resolved and what language was used.
Mind you, this was 25 years ago. Today I would probably feel the need to blow money on a lawyer.
Join me in retirement as soon as you can and STAY FETAL!

1-2 over a 20+ year career???
If you've WORKED the streets for 20+ years, you'll blow past the 1-2 mark.
I've got 30 on and all in a district, tied to the radio. Not a hard-charger by any means, but just by responding to 911 calls, you're gonna get 'em!
One reefer or weed not reported but when he kills someone, screams of why wasn't he in jail? And the neighborhood wants the cops to do something, but they are the problem.
People get the government they deserve. Every f*****g time. And they should.

It's real. Obama is just trailing along here, thinking about golf and pardoning drug dealers and planning to start colonies on Mars. Seriously.
Russia is sending ships to Syria loaded as far down in the water as they can get -- all military equipment. Huge air transports too, more and more every day. They are going to build a permanent naval base in Syria and put in missile systems to make the whole region a no-fly zone for everyone but them.
This is not about Assad. He'll get one in the back of the head as soon as he has served his purpose. Putin and the Russian "oligarchs" have just concluded a deal with Turkey's Erdogan for a tremendous gas pipeline project, and this move is to cement Russian power into the area.
Russia is not what most people think, either -- it is a shitbox with a tremendous and growing unequal distribution of wealth (like here), it's already 20% Muslim (Russian is the second language in ISIS, by the way, so many come from there) and...
"...two out of three Russian men who died, died drunk. The country’s death rate far exceeded its birth rate: in 2000, life expectancy for men was only 58, and for women 71. The syphilis rate among girls 10 to 14—a statistical category that boggles the mind—had gone up 40 times the previous decade, and only 30 percent of boys between the ages of 15 and 17 were considered healthy. Cheap heroin from Afghanistan was rolling in, and an H.I.V. epidemic spread by dirty needles was taking hold. Predictions then were that Russia, with a population of 146 million, could become a nation of fewer than 100 million people by 2025, and hardly a superpower..." and the trend is continuing.

department knows a small number of members have a very large number of companies against them----and the department has done nothing. they don't care about those officers- the people stuck working with them or the community.

Next time you see Mark Donahue, grievance chairman Rich Ag-u-liar, Bill Dougherty, Sid Davis, Frank DiMaria, John Capparelli, and Greg Bell what they did for a decade????
This was winnable before the political winds blew the other direction. Shields didn't touch it but then again the above backstabbers never let him know what was going on. Angelo had this in court ant it was winnable until the McDonald video came out and then the judge lost his balls. if you would go to meetings over the last 14 years you would know this. Ask your unit rep about this. If he can't expound on the above get a new unit rep.
that web link sucks. my name is near the middle of the alphabet and i havent gotten anywhere close to it to check. im barely in the middle of the "b" names after about an hour.

Agree with the latter. Used to lead district in activity including arrests. I have no cr's or other complaints. Maybe I've been lucky but I really think all boils down on how we conduct ourselves on the job.
I have a cr because I was smiling through my teeth as I wrote a traffic ticket. What a joke!
