Missing Body Camera

Lost in the vicinity of the 006th District about 10 days ago.

We're interested just to see what type of discipline the Department is going to be handing out for this sort of thing. It's already half-a-day for a shield, a full day for a star, multiple days for a radio...all unless you can come up with a damn good reason for losing any of it - which isn't often the case.

What's a camera worth?

The Department can't do anything. The reason these cameras are being lost is the crooked contract that gave Hilliard's Taser International a camera contract for cameras that do not work with our computer systems and that have no way to hold the camera on a jacket.....When you put your jacket on a chair the fucking thing pops off the bracket and ends up breaking...A fight or foot chase, will cause hundreds of these to be lost or broken.

Should have never purchased them from taser...

Those things aren't worth squat, typical overpriced city purchased garbage.

In my opinion if during a foot chase, unbeknownst to the officer, the camera became dislodged from the officer's outer clothing, fell to the snow packed ground not making a sound to alert the officer the camera was not attached, and when the officer noticed the camera was not attached, retraced own steps in the snow found the camera to not be in the path the officer had taken and notified a supervisor there should not be a probable. Apparently the camera was retrieved by some good citizen, between when the officer dropped the camera and when the officer retraced steps.

As long as the officer immediately notified the supervisor of the lose of the camera and the camera not negligently attached to the officer's clothing, but with the department prescribed device, the officer followed all department protocol. Just because other cameras have not been lost under these similar circumstances, doesn't mean the camera in question could not have been dislodged. If the device that is on the camera that attaches to the clothing is faulty to the point of being unable to sustain jarring and other violent action, withstanding it from being dislodged, the officer should not take any time. No time was given an officer when with similar circumstances the officer lost a radio, but then it was awhile back.

Of course it would take a damn fine supervisor to articulate the facts surrounding the lose camera. On second thought the cop is probably screwed.

It's a super shitty magnet that looses grip and camera goes bye bye. Some inspector was walking around districts and looking for input ref better camera holder for those cold weather months when jacket or zip sweater gets in the way. Like they ever listen to our input

A radio is worth 2k at least... stupid shield you can get at a dollar store, bullshit star they sell at the gift shop at the fop for 40 bucks--- may have a German flag on it tho. Choose your poison

Kind of wondering what the punishment is for not USING a camera? Department's sending out threatening messages, saying punishment is being recommended for people who don't use the camera a minimum number of minutes each day.
A co-worker on iod got one, because he hasn't used the camera 'enough'. Which inmate is running this asylum?

In the motorcycle club I belong to if someone left their camera on the bar or somewhere, other members would sneak it away, shoot pictures of their asses, and quietly return it.

Maybe the same thing is being done here.

The problem is officers are simply not turning on the camera as they are suppose to do. The constant excuses like, "It's new technology, everything happened so fast, I forgot to turn it on, etc; etc;" and then miraculously everyone turns their cameras on at the same time when everything is done. Everyone needs to just accept the cameras are here to stay! At some point in the future, if a confession of any kind (misdemeanor or felony) didn't happen on camera, it didn't happen. This is unfortunately the times we live in folks.

The camera is worth about $8.75, made by slaves in China, but they paid $300 apiece for each one.

this is news???? who cares, a piece of equipment got lost. It happens everyday. they will get a spar or take time. But whats interesting to me is what if ALOT of these cameras start to be "lost" during foot chases, pursuits etc?? Im sure it will either never be replaced or take upwards of a year to replace. Hmmmm, can people stick together and take a spar or a day for the greater good?? Hundreds or more go missing? City cant afford to replace that many at once. just a thought.

The fact of the matter is that the brass was warned that these cameras would not stay attached with the bracket options offered. But they already ordered them which cost around 30.00 bucks each. The brass said they would deal w it later. It is believed they were purchased through none other than Hilliard.

They're using that camera for the Snitch Box security monitor.
Yes, that's the one that's duck-taped to the hand sanitizer dispenser that nobody uses.
Please rescind the AFMN per DSS.

Perfect example of department and city paying too much for equipment. Anyone remember when the range went to districts to try the shoot don't shoot scenarios on a large movie screen. Nice little system they I tried when I went to the police expo a few years ago. Same brand and everything and the department paid twice what the device was worth because I personally talked to the manufactor myself.
