RIP Ernie.
Love him or hate him he definitely was a character.
A cheating merit hack has passed. Good bye! Next.
Say what you will, my friend didn't take no shit. RIP E.
Like him or not.
Rest In Peace sir.
Rest in Peace EB
May he Rest In Peace.
Stop. Pause. Reflect.
Ernie was a lot of things, good and bad but Ernie always did it his way :) thank you!
Thoughts and prayers to the family and to his vast extended family, all of us who wore a uniform or worked along side him
Well... bye.
Moral of story, stay in shape and get checkups regularly, and once you retire stay retired and enjoy life.
Ernie was murdered. Can't be summoned to the grand jury.
Ernie wasn't a bad guy to work with or for....unless u were a female.
Heard it happened At Lou malnattis after he found out it was full boat, no discount.
why do high ranking department members don't know when its time to retire?
they bounce from one post retirement job to another never actually knowing that the end is near.......focus on your health upon retirement not another job.......
what a way to go.....
Prayers going out to his family and friends
God bless ...
How old?
God rest his soul but he was the epitome of what is wrong with merit promotions. From what I understand he was just forced out of his post at Cook Counrty homeland security. Should have been enjoying this time. Very sad.
Hate to hear about anyone passing especially young. Your time on the job here was interesting for all, however RIP.
"No one gets out alive."
RIP E.Brown and condolences to his family.
Good riddance. Enjoy Hell.
Ernie Brown...Rest in Peace my friend
My parents always told me to not speak ill of the dead...
I don't like to speak ill of the dead. So I won't say anything. thougths go out to his family.
"Downtown" Ernie Brown was a jagoff. With that said may he rest in peace.
EB was always full of something....or trying to get on someone....but Ill say he was decent to the working police. I worked for him during his PUBLIC Housing Days and he backed his guys....sometimes to a fault, but he was a good boss.
RIP EB.
He died of a heart attack. I hope all the pain and suffering he caused so many came back and hit him in the chest like an elephant before he died. He's definitely heading Lucifer's way.
How many sexual harassment complaints in the private sector you would be fired??
Did Ernie put in the will his cut of Watts street tax to his family?
Known Ernie since he was patrolman in 007, got along well with him, if you gotta say something bad about him you should have said it to his face.
Had many dealings with him never a problem Rip.
Crickets
Extra large Lou Malnati's deep dish, butter crust, extra cheese, extra sausage, extra pepperoni 6x a week will do it every time. Shoulda gone to Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder and paced himself.
I'm white male and a worker and he treated me awesome. He put in the best workers, regardless of race, in for Merit... people who really deserved it (Well the 2 I know). I wasn't privy to the other reported stuff, just giving what I saw.
Had a few sexual beef's but yet he still managed to get his spots, wonder if Ray Risley was sorry that he was his sponsor and merit promoted him. Ernie was a piece of work never knew what he was doing but always thought he was the sharpest tack in the box. RIP hope its not to hot
No matter what you say, no matter how many lies you post, no matter what you create, his reality is that he had the most prestigious jobs, had one of the best reputations in law enforcement performance and has made a substantial nest egg for himself and his family. He truly enjoyed his life!
Rest well Deputy Superintendent of CPD, Chief Of Darian Police and Head of Homeland Security Ernest Brown! Good job Sir!
Eli pay attention here! Retire.
He was everything that I aspired to NOT be. 0 Moral Compass.
Boo Hoo.
More pension money for the rest.......
What happens to all his sexual harassment suits now???
Working and pushing a blue & white in a District for the better of 20+ years will do just that.
Working until you drop is your choice as is poor diet, lack of exercise and a no regular physicals.
Who covers the restaurant tab and tip, Special Ed or Blue Cross PPO?
Praying for PW and the rest of them
Way too much stress being a white shirt. Stay fetal blue shirts and prosper.
was never a fan of Ernie, seemed just one more product of a corrupt political and promotional system, but.....the bottom line is, all of us have only one life to live, live it the best way possible, because, there is no second chance
The G did it
Like him or not , he knew his shit , was the working police and wasn't afraid to help you if you if you were in need! All of the other shit , over half the department , both male and female has had a fling at some point!
Did Moore Powell get her money!!!!
Does this mean we're getting the 50 caliber back?
God bless Ernie, I always found you easy to deal with, F-you haters say what you want there isn't a boss that someone cant say bad things about. Racists ect, I am a white copper I worked for Ernie off and on for years, he had no problem making decisions or standing up for his troops. Rest in Peace please keep your negative comments to yourself!!!
Reminds me of Big Daddy James Whigham
Chicago police deputy super
U.S Marshal
Chief of Cook County Squirrel Cops
Chief of Staff for Old Man Stroger
Dead RIP
One hears that the "Extended family/girlfriend LT. who works in 005" is having a domestic at downtown Ernie Brown's house on S. Giles over who gets to stay at the house and who gets asked to leave.
R.i.p. E. Brown
Ernie lived in 002 and while working there I bumped into him many times and he was always a gentleman. Always took time to say hello and ask how my day was going. Never had a problem with him. Would of been nice if he would of just enjoyed his retirement and slowed down. RIP.
why do high ranking department members don't know when its time to retire?

You are assuming he wasn't happy doing what he was doing. Stop judging others on what u think happiness is.
Ernie, like a lot of retired bosses, looked forward to new challenges. If that was his call, so be it.
Like him or not, Ernie was unique. If you called for assist and he was on the street, the mess got handled; he was a cop's cop.
No one is perfect, and Ernie, like all of us, had his flaws.
R.I.P. Ernie.
Alderman Hairston must be a complete wreck! Those two had quite a history.

He was the real police in his day. Someone these young guys should have trained under

About 75 bosses now maxed out really don't understand it. Is your family worth a little bit of money and pumping the ego. But hey I degress keep paying into my pension thanks.

Wrong. Focus on your health LONG BEFORE you retire. When you're old and fat it might be too late.
DTEB not a bad boss at all. I really don't care about the broads, booze and bullshit on the side.he was a player, and his time came.
I think the Russians had something to do with it..
Indictments coming soon from PHS scandal.
Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone. May he rest in peace.
I didn't know much about him personally, only the things I heard from others. That said as my mother always said "no matter what we thought of them alive, we don't talk bad about the dead." Everyone eventually has to answer for themselves
If he was a White Boss he would have been fired or indicted a LONG time ago.
Sad!
EB was a good guy and, even if he wasn't, I would tell the idiots here who have written insensitive, mean spirited and downright nasty comments. Never speak ill of the deceased boys and girls because it will come full circle and slap you right in the head. That said, R.I.P. Ernie, I am glad to have known you.
Ernie always favored the working police, he gave the lazy asses hell. It was nothing for Ernie to conduct traffic stops and to back up his troops especially on calls in the Parkway Garden. RIP Ernie Brown.
Guess he won't be resting in a piece.
I am a male white. When I was a Two Year Wonder, I worked for Commander Brown in public housing, out of Robert Taylor Homes. The BEST time of my career!!!!! Ernie was a hell of a Boss. When the Police could be the Police. Policing will never be the same. Ernie was out there doing it will us. R.I.P. Boss. He was a man that I respected.
Ernie not only died broke but he was deeply in debt. Had a number of bad habits that he needed to feed regular. Credit cards were mostly tapped out. He had been putting on a show for years. Too many of "his guys" have ended up in prison trying to emulate him. He got away with so much because he was smarter than the average PO, but those who followed him took the weight of his crimes. He always had a patsy. Don't be fooled, he never did anything for anyone that didn't benefit himself. Best advice, Don't shed a tear for him."
Rest In Peace big Ernie!
Did he date the doll in the guard shack at HQ heard that was her present
Dealt with Ernie several times, a gentleman,RIP the German

Rumor is taking some time off then to a less stess spot. Acting cmdr to be in place before end of the period. Young new face to the district, 1st AA cmdr.
Hey I heard Steve Peterson the skull died,
No post about that miserable fuck
RIP Ernie
We all got to go, it is what we leave behind that memorializes our lives.
So how do we remember Ernie? A good cop, a cop's cop, a good boss, a fair boss, a cheat, a womanizing skirt chaser? I suppose it all depends on his friends and foes.
Condolences to his family.
What a crock of crap. It was not a 10-1. The fiance and soon to be ex wife (she didn't live at the house) had an issue and the neighbors called the police. The Lieutenant (fiance') didn't say a word, was cooperative, kept apologizing and was more embarrassed that the police were at the home.
He was my Commander in 003. EB didn't see color, he backed working police and he was there to assist you on the street. Say what u want about the guy but he had your back. Yep, I'm a white guy who worked n 003 over 20 years ago.
Didn't know him... So many pass on this job hope he had his affairs in order.
Known Ernie since he was patrolman in 007, got along well with him, if you gotta say something bad about him you should have said it to his face.
1/08/2017 02:50:00 PM
Never really heard anyone say anything bad about Ernie. He liked that twang, and caught some sexy beefs, but nobody was really talking shit.
No matter what you say, no matter how many lies you post, no matter what you create, his reality is that he had the most prestigious jobs, had one of the best reputations in law enforcement performance and has made a substantial nest egg for himself and his family. He truly enjoyed his life!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
If I had lived in the deuce during my career, I too would have built up a nest egg.........but then I would have built up too much cholesterol too in my arteries.....double edge sword........
Gotta say he's gotta be in the top 5 heaviest black bosses of all time Teflon don who was his clout? Will say one thing about him being a boss he did take charge on the street now all we have is administrative clout hacks that are scared to deal with the savage.RIP Downtown EB
A.M.F.
One hears that the "Extended family/girlfriend LT. who works in 005" is having a domestic at downtown Ernie Brown's house on S. Giles over who gets to stay at the house and who gets asked to leave.
Word is a Capt. from 002 who was RDO showed up in civ. dress and after someone from the family beefed to him that they did not want the police there only the Capt. told all the officers to leave. Nice of the Capt. to allow family members to tell him what to do! I hear all the officers asked to leave just so happened not to be black. Lastly Lt. girlfriend (P.W.) from 005 ordered to leave the residence since it was not her address of record with 35th st.
I met DT EB when he was a street deputy and came to the hospital when a male relative was IOD. As soon as he established that the injured officer was not my husband, he motioned for me to go out in the hallway with him.
Having heard of his reputation on here, I was ready the tight hug -- and was glad I had on a bulky coat -- and the line, "Now, ya'll let me know if you need anything. Anything, ya hear. My cell number is on my card and I expect you to use it." He then asked for my card and I lied and said I rushed out of the house so fast I forgot it.
After he and his driver were outside another female family member who saw the interaction said, "So that's Downtown Ernie Brown. He lived up to expectations. Even in ER."
If nothing else, he was consistent. May he rest in peace.
Check out Chuck Ramsey's comment to the Trib article:

I first met Ernie when he was a young police officer in Englewood and I was the newly appointed tactical lieutenant. Ernie and his partner Walter Green stood out as uniformed officers and I asked them to join the tactical team. I later brought Ernie to the Narcotics Section. He was a hard-working and dedicated police officer and never lost his work ethic as he rose through the ranks. When I left CPD to become Police Chief in Washington D.C. Ernie rode down with me in a U-Haul to help me move. He was one of my closest friends. Rest in peace my friend you will be missed. Chuck Ramsey
Will his harem be attending the services?
"Like him or not, Ernie was unique. If you called for assist and he was on the street, the mess got handled; he was a cop's cop.

Here, here. RIP
Come on, why are there disrespectful posts on the passing of a man that did wear the same uniform you all did and do? Not many liked his policies or ideas in leadership but he has passed on and has not been our boss for a while. The way you hold onto hateref and appear to stress about it is a quick way to end up toearly passing yourself. Cool off go hang out with your family and forget whatever literally nonsense bs got you so fired up it ain't worth it. Condolences to the Brown family
What did he know about Rahm?
He did love the ladies.

I see what you did there. EP-I-toe-mee! One of the funniest "Boss" stories out there.
For all of you eulogizing Ernie, and all of you excusing his shortcomings because he used to be 'the real police': wake up. I love the "he treated me right" ones. He is SUPPOSED to treat you right when you do your job.
Ernie had to place every young bird he "knew" in a good spot and ruined the management spots for YEARS! No one could get anyone they wanted to a District or Unit because he couldn't keep it zipped up. He gamed the system, did what he wanted when he wanted. How did this help you? Now, tell me how he was a great man, this morally bankrupt sexual predator. I imagine the cheerleaders are from a community that condones this? Nothing but cuckolds on this job.
Is there, was there, any one on this job worthy our respect?
RIP Ernie
Comments sound like the ones pisted for ed johnson when he was peonoted and two weeks later hes the biggest asshole in the world. I was at academy when he was there and he did not have evryones back. But he took care of the ones. There was a little cheating thing going onand eventhough the official syllabus and answers were passed around it was only to the black officers by black hri assistants. Not to hispanics or whites.
Knew and worked with Ernie before CPD, then in 007, Narcotics. Ernie was the Real Police on the street. Always a gentleman whenever I ran into him, even when he was an exempt.
RIP, Ernie.

How does this fetal thing work....you still have to answer calls........
Don’t put Jimmy Wigham in the same category as Ernie. If it wasn’t for Police Board President Nancy Jefferson Jimmy boy would have spent his whole life stocking shelves in a liquor store.
She wouldn’t lethim get dumped so to get him to leave they founf the US Marshal’s job for him. But he may have had the shortest tenure there in history. He gave our badges to everyone of his friends and when the G launched him it took a year to get them all back.
I know this is going to take some heat, but he was a low-down and that is a fact of life. RIP BROTHER.
I retired from the deuce 5 years ago. All I can say is
that EB was always a gentleman to me.
May he RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

Well she's not the soon to be ex-wife anymore, she is now the widow. And the "fiance" is, well...alone
Say what you will about Ernie Brown. He was a great boss to work for back at housing south, and this is coming from a male white officer, the guy took no shit and always stood up for his officers. RIP a big Ernie!
All I know is when I retire I hope that I'm able to live a long retired life and enjoy whats left because I would have given the best years of my life to a city that could care less. Kiss my ass City of Chicago, I'm not doing a damn thing and when I die, S.C.C.'s post for me will be Officer Anonymous passed away at the age of 99. He took the city for 49 years of pension. Hey a man could dream. RIP E.B.
Can't say anything bad about crayola boy (as he and Green were known back in 007 in the 80s), if you were calling for help the crayola boys came (no matter the color or sex of the po calling for help) and you were glad to see them! RIP Ernie!!!
Can't we just say goodbye and keep all the bullshit! If you don't have anything good to say then DON'T! RIP EB!

How about the time he had the gym locked down and at deposition time he denied it, leaving the sergeants out to dry.
Only guy I know that would kick in a door, with a gold star. Real project police. RIP
May he rest in peace.
lol, lets be real, the LT living with a married man (seperated or not) knows she has nothing to stand on, so just vacate the residence. Both are ghetto as hell!!
wonder how she got her stripes?? lol just saying he did love the ladies
No matter what, he was a cop at heart. He always backed his people and was there if you needed help. No matter what he was always there for the blue shirts. RIP Ernie.
tom jones will perform "she's a lady "

hell yeah RIP Brother
hey ssc I live in work now in 016 , am a worker a vet and above all zero political clout I give a flying f-ck if ernie died , all you posters saying he was a good guy my question? did he ever do anything for you , did he give you a promotion because if he never helped you out, guess what " he aint a good guy"

Tell this to the women he sexually harassed and bullied. The man was a sexual predator. Or does that only matter when your the President Elect.
Now you go cool off!
The only thing is can say is "Karma is a Bitch!"
*******NOTHING FOLLOWS***********
Worked for Ernie, I agreed and disagreed with some of his ideas on policing. However, he was decent to me. I also saw him show patients when dealing with subordinates when he had every right to string them up for insubordination. At the end of the day the facts remain the same. Cops average life expectancy is 66 years and they die within 10 years of retirement. With tier 2 pensions, this job is not worth it anymore. Anyone hired after 2011 should find something else, this job takes more than it gives. Tier 1 is the only reason I'm sticking around. I don't know any 90 year old cops.
Sexual predator only applies to republicans. We all know democrats have morals? Like bill & hillary.

Hahaha hahaha.
The disturbance turned into a shit show at EB's home after he passed on. Old Walter green got knocked on his ass while all hell broke loose and The cheating Lt. PW (005) WAZ found hiding in the bathroom. The CURRENT wife of EB told the cheating LT. PW to basically get the fuck outta MY HOUSE. Poor old PW had to exit stage left since she was Shacking up with a MARRIED MAN. Fiance MY ASS....was said by the current Mrs. Brown.
What a shit show. It couldnt happen to a better woman. The lying, cheating Lt. PW (005) who has been hidden her whole career. She had a small office in charge of NOTHING for the last 2 years in 189. She did ZERO. must be nice Lt. Wines (005).
Sincerely,

Carl, you and I went to the academy together and I respect you. But that guy who 'was the police' thirty years ago was also a sexual predator who used his position for personal monetary gain and he was an immoral sleaze. I was one of those victims; his clout protected him every time. He had NO BUSINESS carrying our star.

Not drawing a comparison between the two, but I never met Hitler either. I've just seen and heard enough to know he's a piece of shit.
Yeah it was awful. Lt PW left her husband of 12 years to shack up with EB. Good job Lt PW
Reap what you sow. Now you are labeled and don't have a leg to stand on but a little pillow talk would and could have given you everything he owned. Lesson #1 business first;
Straight to finance Dept to change beneficiaries so you loss there
Rush divorce so now you see that dragging divorce out leaves you with nothing.
Embarrassed? You should be because everyone knows that you and Saadia C cheated on the Lt exam. Just wait you will see and so will she. She has thousands of skeletons in her closet just wait because she has a mild mannered husband but he's a fool too
Choose your man wisely. How could you not know that EB had so much luggage???
Greed
EB RiP..
Good guy to work for back in PHS... But what a crook he was. A lot of officers went to jail for him. HE WAS ONE RAT FUCK THATS FOR SURE. Worked for the G...Billy Patterson is screwed now when he gets out of the joint... no money man to collect from for keeping his mouth shut. 35 years was big hit to take for EB.. well played EB. RIP
SC's husband mild mannered? You definitely don't know him, you could not have possibly met him, worked for him or even know his reputation. Next crock of BS!
EP and GW, the two biggest shit starters in Narcotics, stop posting crap on the blog in hopes someone will repeat it. Skeletons, lets look in you two closets.
I was going to speak at the funeral but because some of you so zealously want to believe what a "gentleman" and "great guy" he was, let me leave a few things here.
I grew up with him and knew him long before the titles, promotions and accolades. He was nicknamed Scootie because as a baby he would scoot across the floor before he could walk. He was like a brother to me and I looked up to him and his younger brother David as my protectors.
We spent many a Saturday at the Rhodes theater watching 007 and horror movies. They babysat me on many occasions and our families vacationed together.
I remember when he became a patrol boy and proudly showed off his belt.
From the outside he looked like any other middle class black boy from the South side of Chicago. What I witnessed first hand though was that he was the product of a home where domestic abuse occurred on a regular basis.
Apparently the scenarios he endured made him not only mimic what he grew up with and take it to a whole other level involving a warped sexuality and hidden hatred and disrespect for women.
A classic Narcissist if ever there was one. Imagine my shock, hurt, fear and betrayal when he came after me. This was the boy who ran behind me encouraging me as I learned to ride a bike. This was the boy that carried me on his back when we had to walk home from Funtown.
But the young man that I knew was gone and the man that replaced him was a wife beater, a bully and a sexual predator.
I avoided being around him at all cost but one day he caught me alone, threw me to the floor of his mother's living room and took what he wanted from me.
He ruined my relationships with my family since I now had to carry this horrible secret around. I was also angry that I knew
no one would believe me and no one had been there to protect me.
He ruined my relationships with men until with lots of self work and inner healing, I was able to trust and choose wisely again. I am finally engaged to be married to a wonderful man.
I forgave Ernest a long time ago, the year his mother passed away but it's been hard to forget how he so negatively impacted my life. Every news story, every new scandal and especially his death, brings it all up.
However, in the end, I won. I am truly a survivor on so many levels.
Rest, Wherever, Ernest Tyrone Scootie Downtown Brown. You can't hurt anyone anymore.
