Golf Outing Debt?

Someone said the FOP Golf Outing lost $25,000?

The FOP said they're "investigating" at last week's meeting.

How does a well attended golf outing lose money?

The FOP golf outing has lost money every year. Even the years that Shields, Donahue, Nolan and Dineen were in charge. It is not met to make money on coppers. I've been to every one since I got on in 86. I was told next year it's going up from 125 to 150 person next year.

The picnic also losses money. Should they charge to get into a picnic?

Maybe all the guys that were on the third floor of FOP in 2010 could refund the two bump ups in salary the took along with Supervisor quarterly and the half hour a day they put on the books and then sold back at the end of the year.

SCC it is election season .

Cappereli is on the record at the November board meeting stating the golf outing lost money. Then one of Donahues candidates tried to say 3 months later the outing lost 50 grand which he quickly debunked . I agree any money that is lost is not good. But one of the reasons is with the additional golfers a new course was opened and that cost additional money as it is a premium course and the FOP didn't pass the cost onto the golfers. which was told to the members . The Donahue minion failed to mention that because he never told Her . The truth is that the golf outing has never made money just like the picnic if people are so offended by it they can cancel them. Next year regardless of the president there will be a golf outing, picnic and they will cost the members money. The same people Donahue, Dougherty Don't have trouble asking for money from the FOP for the hockey team. Whether you like it or not, there is a cost for fraternalism whether you are a golfer a FOP Star hockey player, an Enforcer football player or Finest baseball player or boxer. Please we have more things to worry about and SCC you are smarter then this to fall into a Donahue trap.

The evidence of this financial fiasco was covered in the September 2016 FOP newsletter:

"…participants started the nearly 10-hour extravaganza by lacing up new golf shoes courtesy of the Lodge… This was the first time each player was gifted a brand new pair of Nike golf shoes, a retail value of up to $100.…"

DEAN ANGELO Was called out at the last meeting because they spent $25,000 on designer golf shoes for the persons who attended the golf outing at Cog Hill . How many freebies to alderman , lawyers and special interest groups were given ? The Blue Voice formerly the City Wide Team led by Kevin "crackers " Graham , Anita Witcher , Bill Dougherty , Rich Agu-liar and the puppet master " Mark Donahue are sounding the bell. How much of our hard earned money has been misspent ? The election is coming and both of these two groups will continue to throw bombs at one another . This Union has had enough of this cat fighting for years . Dean Angelo will be mandatorily retired on June 29th of this year . As a result he CANNOT NEGOTIATE out next contract .Not that I want him to! Maybe Ray can go on vacation then! ITS time to elect new blood into our UNION . Time for a
NEW DIRECTION ! Ask yourself when's the last time any of these crews really worked as a police officer today ? We need representation by
Police Officers who sank a mic , logged onto a computer , completed a TRR and basically can understand what it is today ! Time to vote these old relics out ! Please vote and give us a NEW DIRECTION instead of the same old story !!!

We have to get rid of this crew. No way do we want them negotiating our very important contract. The last one was horse shit at best. We gave up healthcare and furlough by seniority for what? A lowsey 10% raise? Not one retiree should vote for this aweful crew.

This is a political scam. The fop golf outing, like the picnic isn't a free lunch. It's to drum support and ensure the continued support of the powers of influence who don't understand the value of money in the first place. The blue voice squad is a political combine with all the old names we voted out in different positions. Let's see how the investigation shakes down. 100 dollar golf shoes sound like a stupid thing to do. But these meetings are political theater and posturing from these assholes anyway. So let's everyone start going to meetings, listen to the issues, and vote in the election. Let's start posting shit about how every candidate as been when you worked with them. How many haven't actually worked in a unit that does police work in two decades. Some of these jagoffs have been paid politicians for fifteen or twenty years! What do they know about being the police? They lost contact with the job. They know second had stories. Does that mean that my wife or brother is qualified to represent the membership?

This outing has lost money EVERY YEAR in the last 12!!! Problem #1 is the BOARD LOVES SPENDING other peoples money. They should have private or corporate sponsors footing the bill or a great portion of it. Car dealerships--how many of us buy cars every year?? Ray OHERRON--how many of us buy a new gun from them every year or every couple years or ammo or equipment from them, they NEVER EVER donate to this outing.

The last year of SHIELDS term they lost almost 35,000... Its seen its course time for it to go away its OUR DUES $$$$

I don't think you can use the excuse that the outing lost money in the past as the reason you buy an uncessary lavish gift. Most golf outings give a gift of golf balls or a towel. This is ridiculous. Especially after Dean campaigned on saving us money.

The majority of the golfers were members. Great golf course and great give aways. I'm not a golfer but attend every year to see guys I came on with. Could do a better job of losing less money but active and retired members need to fill the spots and no money will be lost. I look forward to next year and hope that this event doesn't go away. Leave the BS political stuff at the door. This is a top shelf event every year. At a time that we are on an island, its good to know they men and woman that are in the same boat.

Yes the golf outing losses money. It always had.

Should the FOP try to make money off it’s members? No.

The very 1st thing Angelo did was lower his salary. They lowered the salaries of each of the field reps also on average of 30k each. They did it voluntarily. They passed a by-law making it permanent. The by-law does not take effect until next April. It’s close to 300k a year.

When this by-law was voted on at a general meeting. Who could possibly vote against it? Graham, Ag-u-liar, Donahue, Dougherty, Garza, and Whicher. Why? Because they were planning this election run. They wanted the salaries high so they could collect them.

The blue voice team is controlled by the old city-wide team. Like the democrats protesting across the country yesterday they lie and cheat their way thru life. They changed the name but not their tactics.

Remember when Ag-u-liar, Bailey, and Dougherty where working at FOP not only were we paying for their ice time but they were practicing at Johnies Ice House during the day on our time!

Angelo cut the salary of the president by more than the loss of the golf outing.

Let's talk important shit:

Ag-u-liar why no work done by you on CR# retention?
Dougherty why did you not sign the letter?
Donahue how did you make 209k salary?

Graham why did you try to pass a by-law that if charged with wrong doing you could still run for office till convicted?

Is playing golf really worth that much Money, time, and effort...? New Nike Golf shoes? Really??? Couldn't they get a sponsorship?

I really don't give a shit, except that 25 K of our/my FOP dues were carelessly expended for an interest which few members have. Much like the leadership in our fair city, the FOP is oblivious to the real problems and issues we face.

I remember past FOP 7 president Bill Nolan taking his entire "negotiating team" to Florida on our dime. They came back and negotiated the worst ever contract in the history of the FOP and we voted it down resoundingly. We were still out the cost of the trip for the team though...

@@@

Hold on a second here. Every unit and district holds a golf outing every single year. I have been running our unit outing for the past 13 years. Every year we golf at a premium course, have dinner, open bar, door prizes and raffle prizes. Every year we are covered by donations and the price of the outing passed onto the golfers which is 80 dollars per golfer. You're trying to tell me that there was a 25K loss because some of the cost didn't want to be passed onto the golfer??? Do you know how much the price would have to be then??? I'm gonna tell ya right now from my experience running these that a 25K shortage is not just a mistake but somebody is being shady with money. Every unit runs a good golf outing every year and doesn't loose money, yet the fop runs one and somehow loses 25k on it? Nope, impossible.

Golf outing in past years was always a loser to the tune of $5 - $10,000 dollars. Gifts were always solicited for prizes and sponsors were always solicited for on course beverages, food and the golf shirt that was given to each golfer in all past outings. Seems that Dean Jr. and the Golf committee is a chip off the old block. I guess he figured if the picnic cost $35,000 every year and the golf outing only $5-$10,000 he could afford to increase the golf outing budget/loss to the members by giving himself and everyone else a new pair of Nike golf shoes. Same mentality as the father, it's all about me.

"Should you charge to get into a Picnic?"

The simple answer is: YES.

The longer response is: Stuff costs money. Venue permit, trash bags, food, drinks, cups, napkins, plates, plastic utensils, charcoal/LP tanks, bouncy house rentals for the kids, signage, desert, games.... How does it get paid for? Either a portion of the dues, or an up-front payment? One or the other because you know the donation jar is bullshit...

Golf outings should never lose money. If you want to play, you gotta pay. Greens Fee, Cart fee, 9th hole snack, after game dinner and drinks, door prizes for the "raffle", sleeve of balls, shoes. Add all the costs of that shit up, divide by the expected # of attendees and that's what it costs to join in the outing. Figure out what the per plate is for food only mark it up 20% and charge that to 90% of the people who CAN pay - those who can't (like a disabled on-the-job copper) come for "free", but that comes out of the mark up...

Losing money only happens when you use the Dumbocratic method of accounting - which we all know DOESN'T WORK.

The proper response to: "Oh, the Golf Outing lost money..." is: "You're in charge, we have YOU leading the FOP, YOU fucked it up, so YOU WRITE THE FUCKING CHECK". Guaranteed the thing either gets cancelled next time because it's not financially viable, or it never loses money again. Hold the organizers and leaders accountable.

In civil service Union dues are union donts
Its always a net loss in the end hence
Its always billed as the wills and wonts
but when all's said and done yer moneys fenced
Big shots live high on hog on your dough
leave ya holdin the bag them demandin mo
So you pay n pay day after day on promises made
only to see them getting paid n laid by the maid
You're told to look out for the next contract
it's then you finally be back on track
Except when that time finally arrives
you just pay for more girlfriends and wives
Stand up for yourselves, by yourselves once and for all
stop funding parties instead givin matter to your lives
Its then and only then we the people will answer your call
Cops and Citizens then finally one and for all
Vote your union out once and for all
ending the hogs and their free for all
Come back to the people where you belong
leaving those corrupt fools to hit their bong
You get robbed n raped n pillaged n taped
only to see those supposed protectors escape
If aint bad enough their promises they dont keep
They want you bowing at the feet of Meryll Streep
They have galas and outings to attend and greet
while you suckers out there dying on your beat
They dont care on little bit
whether you catch killers or sit and knit
As long as you pay your dues without singing the blues.
Want to shake up Chicago more than anyone thought?
Or remain a commodity just sold and bought?
The choice is yours-it has always been yours,
to find yourself up a crick without any oars.
Do you lay your life on the line for those free golfshoes
What you didnt realize that you live to pay dues?
Thats how they see you these corrupt union hacks
You are nothing more than billys, bobs and jacks
who function as line items with checks to axe
They seek no raises for you as rewards for what you do
they only want a increase for a higher due
Some may not like because it hits way too close to home
but then those are the folks whos ass they already shown
The last thing they need is for you to question
much less demand answers given em indigestion
They are like insurance company livin large on the numbers
refusing to pay out sendin you to collections cuz of their blunders
And when ya dare to stand up they say it coulda been worse
right before they conveniently point at that hearse
Newsflash for ya fellas you arent there cuz of them
we put you there you are beholden to us ahem
Cut loose political baggage used against you with savagery
to regain the support thats been lost in that damn greek tragedy
Come back home to the people we know you want to protect and save
by turning away that pathetic union hack who treats yall like a slave
Bargain with the people in Our House and yours
instead of the mayor who treats you like whores
Want to earn and yearn without the turn in the burn
Play it straight don't berate and refuse to placate
The F O P is not your J O B

The FOP magazine saves about 100k a year because the adds help pay for the postage. The only person to vote against it was Donahue. Donahue voted against the salary decreases at FOP. Donahue took 209k in salary in 2010. When Donahue was hired as lobbyist they gave him a car and 75k and then he had the balls as an independent contractor to ask for auto expenses. So if Whicher and Graham want to make this an issue after they leave the smorgasbord ask Donahue to refund his thift of FOP funds.

I have never attended a FOP picnic or golf outing in my 25+ years on the job and the people now bitching about probably have not either, so who's fault is that? Do the math 100 x 500 players = $50,000 so somewhere between 25,000 and 50,000 depending on how much Capparelli "wrote off" or hid.. Dean probably did it because its an election year and was trying to garner the vote but looks like it backfired... Time for the Angelo Team to go...

The people you mention above never asked the FOP for money for the CPD Hockey team. It was the team president and Donahue or Dougherty never held those positions. It was voted on by the entire board of directors who approved it just like they do for the baseball and football teams. The CPD Hockey Team is the only CPD team that annually presents a check to the FOP in excess of $1000 each and every year after their season is over as well as contributing to The Brotherhood of the Fallen and CPD Memorial. If you're counting on your posting here getting you elected with your bullshit post, think again, you don't have a Shields or Angelos chance in hell.

That's retail cost. Nike, Cog Hill and vendors picked up almost all the cost of the shoes. Fop picked up the cost of most of the door prizes then. Donahue, DiMaria, Garza, Escobedo, Capparelli, all had 6 months to object to this.

1/23/2017 10:30:00

Does you golf outing take up three full courses? Cog Hill is the only place take can handle FOP.

The FOP golf outing has lost money every year. Even the years that Shields, Donahue, Nolan and Dineen were in charge. It is not met to make money on coppers. I've been to every one since I got on in 86. I was told next year it's going up from 125 to 150 person next year.

1/23/2017 12:13:00 AM

Not true. All of this will be revealed by an audit. There are years when a substantial profit was made, but that is not the point of the golf outing. Apparently during the Nolan and Angelo admins there is always a money issue.

It's time to drain the swamp at the FOP. Disability Dean, will soon be retiree Dean, and a retiree has no business being President of the FOP. Dean negotiated the worst contract in the history of the FOP, and should not be given a second chance to destroy our benefits. He gave away the store regarding health insurance, duty availability pay for the new people, bargained for 400 new squad cars which we never received, and now complains about the lack of cars. Disability Dean, has morphed into Disaster Dean, and will soon be Retiree Dean. Dean has to go.

How many of us actually attend the golf outing? Maybe 1% of active members? I've been on 15 years and have never attended nor can I think of anyone I know who has attended. Use the money toward something that ben fits all the members, especially when it's that much money, not just something that benefits 1-5% of the members. Or, just have the people that attend pay their fair share. Why should we have to pay out of our union dues for a few to play good at a premium golf course.

Riddle me this Batman. Why did the Blue Voice or the mysterious New Direction not mention the $500,000.00 in salary savings that Dean instituted? Or the fact we currently save thousands a month on the news letter? But hey the golf outing went 25 grand over. Get the pitch forks and torches. When the department is looking to take away all our protections they are focused in the wrong direction. And how do I know all this? Because I attend meetings. Lord help us.

Well, Bat-Buffoon....for the 500 guys who golfed, that's terrific. For the other 9500 guys/gals who didn't, our dues PAID FOR GOLF SHOES WTF. I don't care how much money we saved on the news letter. Taking the money we saved there, and then spending it on golf shoes for 500 people (not all of which are FOP members either) seems pretty stupid if you ask me. Does the FOP still give the FOP Stars Hockey club money? When Dougherty, Aguilar, Bailey and that crew were in charge, they were skating on the membership's dime, for years. How much $$$ did you guys donate to the hockey team, $10,000? Ask those idiots when they come around looking for your vote. Money saved by the membership should be spend ON THE MEMBERSHIP, not for the golf outing.

Dean Angelo has lied to us since before he took office . Dean met with Bella , McDonagh and Ray Casiano on 11 March 2014 and was asked a series of questions . This is from the Clean Slate letter of endorsement . In it Mcdonagh and Bella state they were promised nothing
Lie # 1. They were made several promises .

Question # 1 . Would Dean reduce his salary for President ?
Lie #2 He did not . He did collect his $50 k disability salary until July.

Question #2 . Would Dean name the elected members as Field Reps in the FOP office ?
Lie # 3 . Stated he would ! Frank Demaria and Dan Gorman were replaced by Tom Mcdonagh and Marlon Harvey .

Question # 3 . Did you promise anything to Tom Mcdonagh ?
Lie # 3 - No

Dean Angelo has lied to us even prior to being elected . Dean, Greg , Ray ,Kevin and the rest of the crew will do or say anything to stay in office . Kevin Kilmer when making a presentation to the 15th District stressed that he did not run in the last election with Dean Angelo . Hey Kevin you are joined at the hip by Tom , Danny Herbert ( attorney ) and his college roommate Jack Byrnes . You are on the ticket with Dean now and that is all that matters ! What's truly amazing is the fact the two African - American field reps were shown the door and shunned by Dean . When one of them asked Ray what's going on with the ticket he was told that "Blacks don't vote and because of this you are not electable !" Dean doesn't need them and now bad raps them both ! Time to have this crew pack their things !

Dougherty and Angelo BOTH offered McDonough a field rep spot for his endorsement. It's not a crime but good politics. Billy said in the runoff if elected he would name ALL his guys as field reps.

Dean did lower the salaries across the board. The 990 tax forms are on-line. And Donahue did make 209k in 2010!

Keith Carter will be retired in 6 weeks and the other guy has 30 years.

Is it just my perception but is the Blue Voice (City-Wide) team using MSNBC tactics?

This is a BULLSHIT about the golf outing. YES the golf outing and YES the picnic lose money. But NO Fop does not take a loss. The Gift store is open all year. It makes money. Fop is a not for profit. The losses at the picnic and golf outing have to offset the gift store profits or you have to pay taxes and Fop would lose it's tax exempt status. Graham would know this if he wasn't so worried abut the 33rd piece of pizza.

The golf outing in 2010 cost 45414 and had revenues of 45414. Picnic was 16873 and 16873. But both lost money. But broke even on paper pg. 9.

Look at pg. 25. And my buddy was expelled from Fop for asking about Donahue's salary. If I found all this out sitting in a car on my lap top. How could all of you hard charges running for office not know this.

To The Blue Voice, most people will never vote for people who cost us all money, sure it's Mike Shields fault, but you were part of that organization. You didn't mail the letter because you wanted his spot, that cost all of us, didn't care about money then did you.

The only money Mike Shields got from the FOP was the $600 per month stipend for the immediate past position on the board. He lost his whistle blower lawsuit hands down. Wass stuck paying his own lawyer fees and received $600 x 36 months= $21,600.

More importantly, I was told that Greg Bella and Tom McDonagh supported Dean Angelo last election because Dean agreed to bring both of them into the office and Dean agreed to drop the lawsuit against Bella for the $206,000 that Greg approved a check for that went to his buddies. Why was this lawsuit dropped just months after Dean's election in 2014? Check court records its there.

if the Dean Angelo team has more former Citywide team members than why is the Blue Voice listing only 5 trustee out of a possible 17 trustees. At last count it looked like the Dean Angelo team had 4 prior citywide team members and the BLUE VOICE also has 4 former Citywide team members. So how can some knucklehead claim that the Dean Angelo team has more? looks to me like the BLUE VOICE needs to disclose the remaining trustees.

why do they both need three vice presidents instead of two or one.

lets also see if "fathead" johnson discloses the names of merit sergeants and their sponsors for the upcoming sergeants class. If only the connected are going to get merit then it should be eliminated all other.

The DOJ should have checked in the fact that a few so called SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS conducted secret study groups and their minions scored very well. the DOJ need to look into the cheating Lt's and cheating Sgt's
