Off Duty Shooting
After being shot at, returns fire and wounds the assailant:
- A person was shot when an off-duty Chicago Police sergeant returned fire during a shooting Sunday evening in the Albany Park neighborhood.
The Town Hall District sergeant was walking with several friends about 7:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of North Kedzie when a group of people in a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and instigated an argument, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
The vehicle then pulled into a nearby business parking lot and turned around toward the sergeant and his friends to continue arguing, police said. Someone inside the vehicle brandished a gun and opened fire at the sergeant and the people he was with. The sergeant returned fire at the vehicle, which drove away.
A short time later, a male showed up at Swedish Covenant Hospital with a gunshot wound to his head, police said. Investigators suspected he was involved in the shooting with the off-duty officer and searched the area around the hospital. A weapon was found in the hospital’s parking lot.
Good shot as he winged the assailant who had been firing at himself and his friends. Watch yourselves out there.

One story I saw said this is one of the types of actions the DOJ was critical of....unnecessarily putting citizens and officers in harms way.
So we're just supposed to accept having guns pulled on us and assholes taking shots at us and what turn the other cheek??

" The old pistol range in the basement will be a storage area. " They must be delusional since the basement had only a bathroom & locker room. Kind of like a British newspaper claiming that our secret detention & torture facility is at Homan Square.

30 day admin duty is standard after a shooting, on or off duty . He shot at the Sgt, he didn't just point at him.

If you Chicago Cops would stop so AGGRESSIVELY defending yourselves,
everything would be ok...
It won't hurt you guys to stop being so mean, aggressive
and quick to respond to citizens with your fists and guns.
People are just frustrated that you guys are always
VIOLENTLY rebuffing their right to express themselves to you.
CPD needs to be honorable, just and exercise more restraint.
You guys need to be reminded that you swore an oath
to serve and protect others and not to think so highly
of yourselves.
The public would be more sympathetic if you Cops

The Sgt. did a fantastic job and should tell his story on this blog. for training and information about the offenders involved. I live near where the incident happened and would like to know what to look for in that area. Thanks for all your information and the many subjects affecting the citizens of Chicago.

Apparently the brainless twit shot in the head and his partner were arrested and charged with felonies - which is a great start. But basically only one each.
I gotta wonder why they're not charged with:
- No FOID cards
- No concealed carry license
- Reckless driving
- Speeding
and anything else they can throw at them to put and keep them in jail for 50 years?
And how about turning the Feds on them for violations of Federal law? Make that sentence serve consecutively to the State so they get another 20 years... let them out when they're 90.
Start doing a few of these 70+ yr sentences and crime will drop.

I also live in the area of the shooting. Not being a concealed carry person, I have seen Hispanic Gang Member showing gang signs to passing vehicles and yelling gang slogans. The above person carries a gun and he should be aware this area has two major gangs, with their drug dealings and fights for turf. No one works, these Gang Members are in their 20-30's and live off of warfare and drug money's. I hardly see a police officer and I'm planing on moving out of the neighborhood. It's to bad the police have their hand tied and this Mayor is just letting illegal Hispanic Gangs ruin a community because he thinks its a sanctuary right thing to do.

It actually did have a range back in "the day"! Way before my time. The lower part of the locker room, where the slime comes up through the floor under the lockers, has a metal backstop on the north wall, with two old brackets that would hold a wire to string the targets in/out. After OSHA inspected the locker room, the city sprayed that canned foam insulation along the edges of the steel plate to stop any lead from escaping??? They just painted over the steel surface where the lead would stop. The station was built in the 50's and maintained that way. One of the Coppers that had a locker across from the slime, died from a brain cancer!

We left 012 in the mid 90's and there are at least
several Coppers we knew of that succumbed to various
cancers in that nasty place.
The city knew about 012 and other cancer cluster
Police stations like 013, the old 006 and 011.
Three YOUNG Coppers from 011 died of cancer
in like a two year stretch.
The city keeps this potentially ruinous
health and safe work environment litigation
out of the spotlight because it's a jurisdictional
black hole artfully crafted to shield the city
from liability.
Besides, who would ever go along with making
Policemen whole for having been made to work
at such places?
