Indiana Chase Goes Bad

  • The northwest Indiana police chase that ended in a fatal crash that killed an innocent 13-year-old girl started with a report of a woman shoplifting beer, police revealed Thursday.

East Chicago Police said an officer was dispatched to a parking lot in the 4700 block of Indianapolis Boulevard for a shoplifting complaint Wednesday afternoon. A woman who matched the description of the alleged shoplifter was seen by an officer at the scene carrying a case of beer, authorities said.

The officer told the woman to stop but she ran toward a Dodge SUV and told the driver to "Go, go go," according to police.

The driver then exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed and traveled into the southbound lanes of Indianapolis Boulevard, nearly striking several vehicles on the roadway.
They eventually ran into a 57-year-old grandmother driving her 13-year-old granddaughter. The child died. Hopefully, the shoplifters get charged with murder - in Indiana, they'll probably do significant time.

Be careful chasing boys and girls. We hear it far too often on the radio lately. We all know they're going to run - don't let them run away with your career, too.

Career shit, the lawsuit will destroy you. The writing on the wall couldn't be clearer. Our job is no longer to stop criminals but to document their crimes in the hope that someday, somehow they are caught and can be successfully prosecuted and sentenced. Good luck.

Other PPO Changes for 2017:

· $150 emergency co-pay.

· Transplant/bariatric surgery covered only when Blue Cross Centers of Distinction are used.

· PPO members must call to pre-certify scans.

· Increases in retail prescriptions.

What was the Angelo slate thinking when they accepted these changes?

Policing is as dangerous and risky as ever. Why should officers get lower insurance benefits?
This is what Dean does and it started back in 2001 when he was a trustee and negotiating our contract. He lied to the members along with the rest of his slate and for the first time in the history of the FOP Dean and his entire slate were voted out of office for lying to the members that ended up costing the members more for health insurance. Does anybody see a pattern here. Fucked us in 2001, then fucked the retirees and active members in 2006. Wake the fuck up and put this disability scammer out to pasture.

Don't know if this is possible but instead of impounding cars that take off and are found at a later date; seize them. Your son took your car and fled from the police and you want your car back? Tough shit. Should have been a better parent. The danger caused by a fleeing vehicle warrants a more severe penalty than impoundment.

For a fucking shoplifter. Just not worth it. It's Indiana, so the officers will be fine. If anyone in Chicago is dumb enough to chase a shoplifter, please don't bother with a benefit or gofundme for your dumb ass. There are very few things worth risking a chase for: if someone shoots/stabs/otherwise severely harms a police officer, if someone is a known terrorist with a bomb in the car, if someone has kidnapped your partner, or if your family is somehow in imminent danger due to the fleeing vehicle. In other words, don't fucking chase. Stolen cars? You're risking your career, freedom, financial wellbeing, and innocent lives to recover a piece of property, which usually ends up being severely damaged in a "successful" pursuit. Good luck with that. If you're chasing for a traffic offense, because you figured they're not stopping because they have guns in the car, or some other idiotic reason, please leave the job. You're just not smart enough to last. If a car goes through a few stop signs or red lights, just watch it go. It's not worth it. Don't let your ego or your need for excitement get you involved in a chase. Don't wait for someone else to terminate your chase when you know you shouldn't be chasing. It doesn't exonerate you of wrongdoing just because your supervisor didn't tell you to stop. You'll be held accountable regardless. Everyone gets all pissy when their chase gets terminated. Accept the fact that termination is the right call in 99.9% of these idiotic chases. Accept the fact that criminals will get away. Accept the fact that you can't catch all of them. Chasing is/was one of the most fun and exciting parts of this job, but you just can't do it anymore. Oh, and those of you chasing for DUI, please wake the fuck up. You're trying to stop a car because you believe the driver is unfit to be driving a vehicle. Now you see that person driving more recklessly, dangerously, and desperately, yet you continue to chase. That's just brilliant. You're causing the person you don't think should be driving at all to now drive faster and more carelessly because you want to stop them from driving. You want to keep the streets safe from the drunk driver. Yeah, that doesn't work. You're a moron. Stop the chases.

Let them run run run. Not worth the grief you will suffer trying to make an arrest. Obama created the worst anti police environment ever in this country. The Good Guys are now the Bad Guys. The Bad Guys are now heroes. NOTHING is worth your job and your freedom. You and your family comes first. Never thought I would say that in my life but it is just the way it is.

The wife was watching some program on one of the local network channels last night. Of course, they threw out a teaser for the "news at 10" about this story. Lo and behold, accompanying the serious toned announcer was file footage showing a wrecked Chicago police squad car. Once again I have to come to this "insignificant' blog to get the REAL story. Thanks.

If you engage in a car chase today that is anywhere outside policy and some innocent person gets killed, expect to defend yourself in a Cook County courtroom for Reckless Homicide. Then expect to spend the next 2-7 years in IDOC.

Fuck these bullshit car chases, they can leave you in a bad situation with punitive damages and that's no joke, you can lose alot, money, your home etc. Don't believe me, just do some research, plus if you are injured seriously and can't work then you suffer financially, can't enjoy family live etc. I know the risks, I spent 40 years on the job, but things have changed, people have changed, drivers have changed. Most chases are for bullshit. Let em go. How would you feel being pushed in a wheelchair to you kids baseball or soccer game. How do you dance with your son or daughter at thier wedding.

You accepted these changes when you voted YES for the last contract. It clearly stated the health care was going to a tier system and with those tiers came extra costs. Next time read the proposed contract past the retro part.

Funny how Dean was in bed in such clear fashion and we did nothing. John and Yoko were somehow less noisy then "sell your Brothers Out Dean." Dean was there no different than Ur usual Chicago Scumbag. A True Scum Bag that Deano is to be nickel & diming a Cop while the Cop may be fighting for his/her Life.
When will we learn? Peeps don't like Us and we have to handle Our Business Accordingly. The Union is a SCAM!!!!! If U wanted numbers comparable to say a mediocre 2nd Basemen in The MLB, Dean wouldn't be close, Dourts wouldn't be close. Why? Because it's a SPOT! Until we can wrestle away this very important and extremely valuable SPOT we'll continue to look like we're EZ. Shooting Cops in a barrel EZ. Enough of these people coming in to MAKE Us do their shit.
How about this: if with every foot moving forward a noice of loud flatulence takes place then this person may be out of touch or worse. The famous Chicago Ulterior Motive......that's ALWAYS been Our Friend in past.

Unless it's assault on a PO I'm after them for, my standard route after 30 seconds or so is now, "Requesting permission to call it off. Too dangerous - speeds too high."

Win-win. If they call it off -- you're going home that night. If they let you go and something happens-- hey, I asked ! Blame the supervisor that wouldn't let me protect the public good.

you what will stop it? putting these pos punks away for a long time federal charges! send them to other ends of the country make the visits hard, fuck them (excuse the language), maybe with President Trump being friendly with Russia he could call Putin and use the gulags load them on trains ship the scum out bet the rate of recidivism would be small! people are tired of the elected and their pandering like rahm who gave millions in Chicago taxpayers rebate money to fund crooked lawyers for the illegal criminals they must resign "we the people " are tired of it! Everyone please read, understand and know the chase order. One can face injury/death, imprisonment, lawsuits and loss of job. Aside from that, you would have to be a true sociopath to not feel remorse and terrible about seriously injuring or killing someone else that had nothing to do with it in the first place. Even if the criminal is apprehended, chances are there will be no charges approved, felonies reduced to misdemeanors or everything is thrown out of court. It just isn't worth it, the message is being sounded loudly.

I don't even know where to start with your post. It seems painfully obvious that you're not the police, especially not in Chicago. However, we have some special ones now, so you very well could be. "Assault" isn't what you think it is. This isn't New York or wherever you learned that term. Here, assault causes no harm. It's simply a threat to do harm. As for requesting permission to call off a chase, you don't need permission. You don't even need permission not to engage in the chase in the first place. Lastly, and most importantly, you don't get to put all the blame on your supervisor because he didn't call off your chase. You're responsible. You'll be in court. You'll be paying the punitive damages. You'll be looking for a new job. Your supervisor will get in some hot water too, but not in your place. If you somehow are actually the police, please educate yourself. If you're the police in Chicago, resign immediately... seriously. You're a liability. You're dangerous. You're an idiot.

I don't work in Chicago, but I imagine the rules here are pretty similar, and there is no upside to a vehicle chase except a pat on the back afterwards. Plenty of downsides though.

I'll do it for some things- murder comes to mind- but not over shoplifted beer. We all know who the media blames when some criminal is running from the police and kills someone.

Please share with us the circumstances of some of your most recent chases, including the outcome in terms of bad guys caught, felony charges approved, convictions gotten, damage to property, injuries to officers involved, etc. Then explain the chase itself, and how you didn't violate any policies while chasing. You found the magic chase that conforms to the policy 100%, right? Just because it all worked out for you, doesn't mean you couldn't be sitting in a prison cell right now if something went sideways. At the very least, you could be looking for another job. But I'm sure you'll pretend your chase was completely by the book, when we all know the book has been written to basically ban all chases. Go tell your story to your grandkids someday. No one here is buying your bullshit, supercop. "I took an oath." LOL!
