Gun Permits Up
- A spike in demand by city residents saw the state issue 63 percent more permits to Chicagoans to own a gun in 2016 than in 2015, according to data obtained by DNAinfo from State Police.
In 2016, some 38,712 Chicagoans got a state-issued Firearm Owners Identification card compared to 23,725 in 2015.
About 212,000 people are licensed to own a gun in Chicago, according to State Police.
- Edison Park and Norwood Park in the northwest corner of the city and Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood in the southwest corner have the highest per capita number of permitted gun owners, according to the data.
Clearing is home of the highest total number of gun owners with permits, while Dunning is home of the highest total number of Chicagoans with concealed-carry permits, according to the data.
Austin and North Lawndale, two of the city's more dangerous neighborhoods, had permit and concealed- carry numbers far below the city leaders.
Gee, you'd think that Edison Park, Norwood Park, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood would be hotbeds of shootings, maimings, and killings. But it seems the opposite is true for some unknown reason. Anyone want to help DNAInfo and the politicians with that one?

While standing in line at GAT Guns with an o/u 12 ga. that needed some gunsmithing, the customer in front of me was at the counter discussing with the clerk an issue he was having with a long gun. After 20 minutes or so, they concluded their business. As the first customer was packing up, the clerk turned to me and said, "You've been waiting awfully patiently, sir. How may I help you?"

After living in Crook County my entire adult life, Illinois kindly let me exercise my second ammendment right and keep a few guns that I'd owned for 50 years, um, for $5 of course. Wonderful. With it I could walk into any WalMart and buy a few boxes of rimfire .22's. Now I Live Free in Indiana. I keep my old Illinois FOID for grins and I have a Concealed Carry License that never seem to need anymore - for some reason.

Last year in Chicago 800 murdered and majority of the murders were committed by black on black. While all of this was happening the left media and politicians remained silent. Thank God others in the areas mentioned are not listening to the mentally ill progressives. I'm not the police but have relatives who are in law enforcement. They are alway telling family members to arm themselves and learn when and how to use a firearm.
The high crime areas are generally among the poorest. The libtards require firearm fees out of the reach of poor people. Therefore, poor people can't afford firearms for self defense. This is discriminatory libtard policy at its finest.
Edison Park, Norwood Park,Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood have the least amount of I.D.O.C. Graduates and those on bad paper. On the other hand, Austin and Lawndale residents spend much more time taking family vacations visiting loved ones downstate and workdays attending preliminary hearings, trials, pre-trial motions, bond hearings, sentencing hearings, parole hearings ad conjugal visitation.
The Edison Park group et. al. are eligible for gun ownership rights. Less felons-more eligibility. These residents are tied up with legal paperwork and processes spending less time with urban firearm training on the public way. More time is spent with compliance than actual application. These residents don't have to deal with negative time via incarceration like those of Austin and Lawndale communities.
Residents of Lawndale and Austin don't have time for background checks, completing required paperwork and firearms training cause most of their free time on workdays is tied up with the criminal justice stuff at 26 & Cal, work release and parole/probation commitments. They elect to by-pass the laws and reject all that law abiding stuff. Instead they elect to go right to the public ranges heating up the corners with their nine millers practicing their own version of inner city concealed carry.
016 is turning into 025 north. Average joe needs to protect his family/home.big area + manpower= you are on your own.

Hopefully no one listens to you. You see, there's no provision for law enforcement within the ccl act, so if you surrender your FOID for a ccl, you technically have to abide by those pesky no gun signs on or off duty.

In all honesty, there are states where it is Too Easy to get a CCL. As a resident of Illinois, I can get one from several states as a Non-Resident of that state (http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/NonResidentPermits.pdf)
I agree there should just be a National CCL. Or a National Open Carry Law if you qualify in your home state to purchase/possess.
