Let's see if Mark Brown says a word about this, seeing as how Mrs. Brown has a six-figure job in Dart's office:
- Numerous guards were hospitalized last night when inmates in division 9 tried to set them on fire. Same inmates who tried to burn down division last month. Dart gave them access to microwaves after that incident. They used the microwaves as an ignitor to try to burn guards last night.
Over 200 CC jail guards have been attacked and injured since beginning of year. 587 last year.. Jail source says 75% of guards from 9 and 10 are IOD (injury on duty status) or have quit in last year.
Source says jail administrators are pleading to Dart to put the problem inmates on 24hr lockdown but he refuses. Jail source says under 20 inmates responsible for the vast majority of the attacks on staff and Dart refuses to take any action against them
We guess along with three different Divisions being shuttered and torn down, Dart must've closed the solitary cells where problem inmates could look forward to 23-hours a day locked down and meals through a door slot away from the general population.

I'm former ccdoc and current cpd.My advice to you young guys is to sue. this job doesnt give a shit about you and bleeding it dry for all its worth is your best bet. no sense in being a company man because they dont care about you. Maybe Dart is a visionary genius. If he keeps closing down divisions there will be no injuries to the guards. Just put all "clients" (formerly called prisoners) on double secret probation. Saw a video clip over the weekend of a cop in California, responding to a citizen asking why they were hanging back while innocent people were getting hurt. His answer of "and ... so?", applies to the guards getting burned. Isn't this the same thing? Innocent people getting hurt?

Like an earlier poster I am current CPD and former CCDOC. When I worked at the County in the 90's anyone who hurt an officer left the building on a stretcher. Lets just say I saw real justice handed out more than once. That is the only thing the animals understood. Just reading this thread brings back nightmares I used ot have. Cook County Jail was hands down the most unpleasant four years of life.

4. Kevin Graham was complaining to day why there was no food brought in for the Special Board Meeting! An hour and a half meeting and they want food catered in! Look for Golden Corral to get the contract.
5. The sad thing is Capparelli and Bella went along with this shit to save their inside spots at our expense!

I was in the Academy for CCDOC when CPD called and I jumped ship. While we were at 26 for training, we were told in one of the divisions that there was Intel that someone was collecting blades and we were to search the block top to bottom, left to right, cells and all (who knows if it was bullshit or legit). Anyway, they got pissed at me and the guy I was with for tearing through one of the cells and "leaving things a mess and not putting his stuff back." Really? They were concerned that the guy would complain and that he would be angry (not even joking). Me and my partner were mind blown. This is a criminal who committed some heinous shit and is sitting in jail...and we're worried about his feelings...? I'm sure he'll have time to put his stuff back, after all, he's not going anywhere... That pretty much said everything I needed to know about Dart and his policies...
We sent BLM and Phleger running from our neighborhood, let's get it together and get rid of Dart!

Don't use Vrdolyak law group they take too many cases missed deadlines forgot to file 19b hearing no workers comp benefits personal injury case dismissed with prejudice. Tried to make a complaint to ARDC goes nowhere can't find another lawyer to sue him legal wall of silence like the Police no wants to go against another Officer.

I would not take your job for twice your pay. You are underpaid, over worked and much more political atmosphere then the CPD. Stay safe in there. I don't know who is the biggest prisoner, the employees or the inmates.

The family of Lieutenant David P. Swan thanks you for attending his funeral on Monday April 17th to pay our last respects to an honorable U. S. Marine veteran, well-respected prison guard of 30+ years, and beloved son, brother, and father. We took great comfort in your condolences and prayers.
To dispel any rumors, we wish to describe the circumstances of his death. Over two weeks ago Dave informed us that an inmate drove an unattended electric cart into a shelf of surveillance equipment while Dave completed payroll duties in an adjoining office. Afterwards one of his commanding officers told Dave that he might lose his job over this incident. Under extreme work-related stress, Dave shot himself alone at home before his shift on Tuesday April 11th. Those of us who loved and depended on Dave will greatly miss him.
We sincerely hope that Lieutenant Swan's death will be a wake-up call to the Cook County Prison Administration to treat officers with the respect, humanity and compassion our officers so rightfully deserve. You provide an under appreciated, very important, highly stressful and oftentimes dangerous service to the citizens of our county. We sincerely pray that the Cook County Sheriffs Department will act immediately to prevent future tragedies such as the one our family is so sadly now experiencing.

To the Swan family, I am very sorry for your loss... I did not know David, but I do work for the Sheriff's office and am well aware of the job related stress especially working for someone like Sheriff Tom Dart who openly has contempt for his hard working employees. Your family seriously needs to sue the Sheriff's office. There is a suicide epidemic in the office. Do FOIA requests, there has been numerous suicides where the Sheriff's office was harassing an employee. One suicide (deputy wrote a letter he was being harassed at work) was covered up by OPR never investigated after his death. The Sheriff is in possession of that letter. Many more were under some BS investigation by Tom Dart's OPR and just had enough.

Tom Dart is not only going after those employees he is pulling cases from several years ago. He ordered the first step grievance Director and Chief Ed Avant to deny all grievances of suspended employees which is a violation of the contract. He is using his employees as a pawn to run for higher office. There has actually been two OPR Directors who have recently left because they wont go along with Dart, their conscience got to them. His Inspector General recently resigned when he perceived Dart was illegally going after his employees. High ranking informed me Dart has ordered OPR to fire and or suspend as many employees as they can to bolster his standing with the media and run for Mayor. Two officers I know recently got 30 days for an incident that happened in 2012. A supervisor allegedly swore at an inmate an inmate filed a complaint. They suspended the officers for 30 days "not being aware of their surroundings" a general order I guess. They had no proof the officers even heard the Sup even swearing. The Supervisor admitted he swore at the inmate after the inmate said something about his wife. This s the kind of nonsense Dart is going after people for and he wonders why the suicide rate is so high.
