Really Garry?
We were re-reading the Tribune article on McCompStat being "encouraged" to run for mayor right before we cleaned out the bird cage yesterday, and this part of the article caught our eye:
- "A lot of people are encouraging me to do that. Politics is not in my DNA. I'm not very good at that. As you guys know, I'm very straightforward," McCarthy said. "But I can tell you this: I would support anybody who would start thinking about performance-based government rather than politics, because that's what we need in Chicago. There's no measurements. There's nobody holding anybody accountable. It's all about politics and communication strategy, and I'm sorry, that just doesn't work to get things done in a big city."
Can someone remind us about how many exempt members got demoted under Mr. "Accountability" again? If the number is higher than five, we'd be shocked. If the number is actually zero, we wouldn't be surprised at all. We do remember the number of Deputy Chiefs going from nine to eighteen within a few months of his arrival. And "performance based"? Don't make us laugh.
We're thinking that whoever is "encouraging" this ill-fated political run is doing it to split the white vote while Rahm tries to wrap up some sort of coalition of blacks and Hispanics to counter what he doesn't get on the northwest and far south sides.

Mayor Rahm has done so much for the people of color and other minorities. I am sure he will be rewarded by another term. He has shown he has the best interests of folks at heart.
This guy is talkng to a lot of corporate people where they measure widgets etc. Government is already run on a performance based system. Unfortunately the process itself has been tainted , manipulated and perverted. We know they are crap, take Durbin, Rahm, Madigan, Cullerton, Dart and just about every alderman and every other politician in this town. They get re elected because the Democrats have created a crime syndicate that we can no longer clean up without some serious federal push. Even that is down the drain with all the Obama staffers still in place. The one thing McNugget cant seem to figure out is you CANNOT base policing off numbers. How can you have "metrics" when every day s different, every situation is different. Policing is not widgets, debt collecting, sales numbers etc.
The thought of a "compstat" type 5th floor meeting is rather amusing though. "Hey, head is Streets & San, how much salt do you have on hand? Why is it taking those garbage men 23 minutes longer to complete their route?". Compstat City Council meetings would be hilarious!!

If McStreetlights had any sense, he'd run where he'd get votes. A lot of angry suburban voters - of all races - are fed up and would vote for him for an office that he's more qualified for - Sheriff. Several suburban residents i know have realized that they erred in voting for Foxx since they bought the media's kool aid last November. Besides, since Madame Prickwrinkle thinks that McCarthy encouraged hyper policing we would have an interesting battle of will between these two characters. His campaign theme should be "keep criminals locked up - regardless of race!" Let Dart the Fart join Todd Stroger in the unemployment line.

Garry has a ton of skeletons in his closet back east and here in Chicago. There are untold stories about him that will surface and come to light if he ever thought of running. Anyone who was involved with this guy should be a little concerned because they will be put in the spotlight as well. If he continues his Rahm bashing, Rahm is going to play hardball and unleash these stories people have been sitting on.
Let him run. Humility is a good thing.

And this performance based system i.e. contact cards, is exactly how the department landed in all this CALEA DOJ force mitigating procedural justice legitimacy bs in the first place. The best way to deal with politics and government is to reduce it and keep it to a minimum. They cry all the time how everyone has to do more with less and trim budgets, yet there always seems to be more money available for new administrators, boards, auxiliary support teams etc. - all making six figure salaries plus benefits.
