Yes, Please

  • State lawmakers in Connecticut are getting set to debate a bill that would provide state and city police departments to use armed unmanned aerial vehicles or “drones” fitted with weapons that are deadly or capable of inflicting serious injuries, according to report from the Connecticut General Assembly this week.

While the proposed law overwhelmingly passed the state’s judiciary committee, several members said they just wanted to allow an open debate by lawmakers from both political parties.

According to reports, only the state of North Dakota has allowed its police forces to use weaponized drones, but even then police are only allowed to the use weapons deemed non-lethal, such as stun guns (Tasers), rubber bullets, water hoses or tear gas. Meanwhile, Wisconsin, Nevada, Oregon, North Carolina and Vermont prohibit anyone — police or National Guard — from using weaponized unmanned aerial vehicles.
We anticipate "suicide drones," probably for the military first. Fly a weaponized drone with a few grams of high explosive after wanted offenders, fleeing vehicles, barricaded subjects. Poof, like magic.

A drone rigged up with a water hose, mmmmmm. I could sit in the garage and water my lawn. I wonder how big the drone needs to be to do that? Remote controlled Blackhawk would do.

Pull all of the cars off of the streets and let the drones patrol the neighborhoods. No more human interaction between citizens and real police officers. No more CR #s. Nothing. You break the law or act up and the CPD Drone just turns the offender(s) into dust.

Remember the film "Blue Thunder" with Roy Schieder? The use of drones in LE will probably happen only in the movies or be permitted in a few red states.

The drone operator can go just as fetal as the street officers. He can hover and park the drone in a park or on top of DD.

If deadly force is justified does it really matter how the police deliver it? How many times have the police had to deal with barricaded gunman shooting at use from a position of cover. In many cases the incident could have been ended much sooner - and with less risk to the public - had we been able to "neutralize" the offender via use of a drone. It makes sense to me to have it available as an option if needed. The problem (obviously) are the bleeding heart liberals who are going to say it isn't "fair".

I am a big supporter of law enforcement, but the idea of a weaponized drone, in a red or blue state, to use against American citizens, I don't like at all. You want one with a camera on it to video criminals being criminals, I'm with you all the way, but this is just wrong.
Who decides what kind of criminal action gets a criminal shot down by the eye in the sky? The way politicians and judges keep changing things, how long before someone speeding down the highway, (not a pursuit) gets a missile up his tailpipe?
Laugh now, but how long ago was it that Police Departments used to enforce laws? Cities never used to defend their criminals, hell they were criminals!
This goes too far. You can bash me now, I'll still support the police, but if you don't draw a line somewheres, what will you stand for?

No ordinary citizen has the scientific knowledge or access to hard gear that is needed to weaponize a drone. But, I would not doubt that gangs are already using camera equipped drones. They are easy to obtain and cheap. The police should be using them also. This is shaping up to be a very bad and bloody Summer. What is going on in the streets will effect the mayoral election, for sure.

The academy has only one experienced law instructor for 400 recruits. They has a sgt that taught law but she wisely left the sinking ship. The management thinks anyone can teach anything. Nothing to see here, move on.
