- With little fanfare, Attorney General Lisa Madigan recently confirmed she plans to run for re-election in 2018. If she wins and completes another term, she will finish her 20th year on the job.
Twenty years is a long time. The year Madigan was elected attorney general, the trajectory for Illinois governance bent skyward. Citizens felt more confident in state leadership after a felony-prone governor, George Ryan, departed.
Democrats assumed control of the legislature and governor's office with a new governor, Rod Blagojevich, vowing to reform a government nakedly intertwined with contract steering, bribery, patronage, obstruction, lying and money-grubbing. Nearly 80 defendants, including Ryan himself, were convicted as part of an exhaustive federal probe that put a focus on the Illinois culture of political sleaze.
Illinois voters swept Madigan into office along with dozens of reform-minded lawmakers on promises they would clean house. Ethics topped the list of concerns for voters. Trust. Not budgets or pensions or debt. Madigan, who was then a 36-year-old first-term state senator, spent most of her campaign reassuring voters the attorney general role would not create conflicts of interest with her father, Michael Madigan, now the longest-serving House speaker in the nation.
Well, she certainly lived up to that promise. Not only hasn't she "create[d] any conflicts of interest with her father," she hasn't created a single conflict of interest with the entire Chicago Machine or the Illinois Combine. Not a single corruption investigation has crossed her desk while Illinois continues its death spiral into insolvency, abetted by massive corruption and crooked contracting.

I hand delivered files showing embezzlement from a nonprofit corporation whose name and property are being used to defraud. At this point, more than $4 million has been taken. But no interest whatsoever. What's the excuse? "It's something that should be handled as a private matter."

Troll reader: It has always bothered me that the purported chief law enforcer of the state has a father that is the chief legislator. The fact that this could happen within the law and more importantly, voters would sign off on this arrangement should tell all that serious problems exist in this state that will never be resolved.
This woman is told by the party what days she should show up to work and when. I ask my democratic friends what has Lisa done while occupying the office and all they can say is she has championed the rights of women and children. I mean her term is laughable and criminal activity in the state flourishes.
If her last name were Smith or Jones or anything other than Madigan, she never would have been elected the first time.

I was against the reelection of Lisa Madigan and I made my position loud and clear; Lisa Madigan has turned a blind eye and a deaf ear toward official corruption in this state. The one loud example is all of the fraud within the former Illinois Legislative Scholarship grants that has been clearly documented by various media outlets. Madigan did nothing about this. Not one investigation, not one lawsuit to recover fraudulent dispersed funds. Nothing. Silence. Former Gov. Quinns handout of 50 million to the political class for " violence prevention" with most of the money going for pay and benefits to the political class ( Dorthy Brown and husband, anyone?) State grant money going to connected groups with no plan, no accountability no reports of effectiveness or even need. The democrats just scream " it is for the children" , or" it is for the needy). Maybe amd maybe not. How about the patronage scandal in the Department of transportation under Quinn. Not a word from Lisa. Lets not even talk about fraud in campaign spending. But, I would bet the sheep voters of Illinois will re-elect Lisa because she is a democrat or a women or just because. Lisa Madigan is compromised and should not be reelected to any public office in this state.

5/21@11:35am - When i first read this post I was wondering if anyone would remember our previous FOP leaders fawning over little lisa. Surprise! Only one comment from the readers recalls how we endorsed this snake. A woman who was ready to fight the IL constitution preserving our pension guarantees to the US Supreme Court, but she unexpectedly backed down and let the IL Supreme Court stand.
Brothers and Sisters - 2018 should be the year that our FOP refuses to endorse the 2 candidates on this ballot who directly affect law enforcement : Madigan and Dart. Too bad this ballot doesn't include Foxx/Prickwrinkle but we have to start educating our friends and families how these two lawyers have obstructed our mission for several terms and how lisa and her daddy are decimating our pension.
Forget what Donahue and Deano have said about the Madigan midgets being our friends - actions speak louder than words.
i humbly recommend that the membership is surveyed or polled prior to rendering an endorsement. As punishment for their previous deceit, Deano and Donahue should be forced to tally the results without any pay or stipend. Under Graham's supervision so the dunce duo won't try to rig the results!
