Over the next two weeks, Chicago teachers will review the curriculum for a new districtwide course on the history of the disgraced former Chicago Police Department commander who systematically abused and tortured suspects on the South Side to force confessions for two decades.
The three to five week class – titled “Reparations Won: A Case Study in Police Torture, Racism And the Movement for Justice in Chicago” – was developed through the CPS Department of Social Science and Civic Engagement as part of a professional learning series for eighth and 10th graders beginning next school year, according to CPS documents.
Is the FOP looking into a blanket refutation of this obviously political and partisan "instruction" that will do nothing but brainwash juvenile children that a leftist fantasy is somehow fact? Burge might have an actual legal case for slander and libel.

Can someone tell me how there is a Burge torture curriculum when the guy never was convicted of actually torturing anyone? Can you point to the proof ( other than death row inmates words) that any of this ALEGED TORTURE actually occurred ?

I witnessed an art piece prominately displayed for all to see in several schools. The picture depicts Barack Obama giving a speech at a podium. Upon a closer inspection the top two rows shows people in white robes with connecting chains on their necks suggesting slavery.
This is extremely offensive and would be decried as racism if it fit a narrative to shame a non liberal other than democrat. This seems to be widely distributed and obviously has been given a blessing by the Chicago Public School authorities.

A three to five week class? This sounds like a mini Cultural Revolution from the days of Chairman Mao - except that it will be taught by the "Daughters of Assata." Since this course was mandated by the AlderCreatures - how did the ever powerful AlderFakeCop Ed Burke let this out of committee? Wouldn't it be a noticable improvement if the Chicago Public Schools actually prepared students adequately to compete academically with students from other nations and other school systems. How about reading and mathematic levels rising up as a priority for the minority.
Instead students are instructed to challenge authority or practice soft anarchy. CPS students have often been encouraged to ditch school to participate in protests organized by the left and their cohorts.
The real message should be in the form of a traditional civics class teaching young adults to be upstanding citizens. This instruction is an anarchist or a societal disrupter's wet dream. Maybe students should be taught to obey the laws and authority and they will stay out of trouble not having to worry about interactions with the police.

I doubt they will provide the true facts that those arrested in the contested Burge incidents were arrested for black on black crime, that anyone with racial insensitivity would not have cared who was killed nor seek any resolution to the crimes.
Realistically some things did happen but not to the innocent, they could no longer speak for themselves, but only leave a trail that would lead to an arrest of someone with malice toward those innocents who died like the arson fire in A/2 that killed 7 including children.

Recently watched a documentary LA92. Occurred after the acquittal of police officers in the Rodney King incident. Video shows marauding groups of rioters pulling drivers from their cars and beating them. Not only beating them, but smashing their aces with concrete blocks, spray painting their bleeding bodies, burning their vehicles all for one reason. Because they were white. No news organizations to this day have made issues of these crimes. You must understand that people were frustrated by the "system".
Peoples businesses were burned. People died, but you know, people were frustrated.
I don't remember seeing or hearing anyone criticizing the "community" for destroying, looting, dragging people out of cars, etc. Guess there are two sets of rules. And we wonder why things seem to never change.
Will they show this type of footage in Chicago Public Schools and tell the students that this type of behavior is wrong?
Wasn't Burge convicted of denying charges that were NEVER PROVEN. The investigation said they probably happened. not good enough. If the public schools will actually teach this class then I volunteer to develop another class. The title of the class would be "Police Officers killed in the line of duty". This class would consist stories on thecircumstances of how Police Officers were killed, who were the offenders, and the effects on the families of officers killed. I was a Police Officer for over 30 years, have a Master's Degree, was a Homicide Detective, and taught at both the City Colleges of Chicago and South Suburban College in South Holland. I have extensive experience in curriculum development,class course work, and training seminars. I believe that I could put together a thoughtful and meaningful class to give the students a better understanding of the world of policing. When this idea of was floated around several months ago I contacted the CPS and offered this service to the CPS. I was told someone would get back to me. I am still waiting. Ret Sgt Chas W Salvatore

Bingo!!! I am an SRO in 2 suburban black schools. That shit is plastered EVERYWHERE. Funny thing is that black history month seems to start in September and runs through the ENTIRE school year. I make it a point not to work the day that they have their "celebration" show. I made the mistake of being there last year and got to see the 5th graders March off the stage chanting "black lives matter". They're warping these kids with bs propaganda at a very young age.
Nothing new, CPS has been on that anti-police, anti-war, anti-establishment bandwagon since 1970.
They, not all but many, were always injecting their opposing views to current events.

* A discussion of the Wrongful Conviction movement in Chicago; in particular the Anthony Porter/Alstory Simon case as well as the Innocence Project’s role in eliciting false confessions with disturbing regularity.
* A discussion of the People’s Law Office (PLO) and their efforts to cover up the actions of the radical Left as well as their active involvement in advancing the Wrongful Conviction movement.
* The history of violence towards police officers, particularly the recent rise in violence against the police and contributing social factors to such violence.
* The findings of a recent Harvard University study which shows no racial bias in police shootings.
* The findings of a recent National Institute of Justice study which indicates that the crisis in police legitimacy is a plausible explanation for the spike in homicide in more than 50 of the nation’s largest cities.
