- Before asking the FOP board of directors to give him the company car, Dino took the car to Marino Chrysler, and left it for repairs costing over $5,000 dollars. He showed up with the repair bill and an appraisal that valued his 2012 Chrysler at $9,000 dollars. The board had the option of giving Dino the car and the repair bill, or picking up the car and paying Marino over 5 grand to get the car back. What would you do? The board gave him the car.
Has no one learned anything in almost 20 years? Back in the 1990's when we voted the entire Nolan ticket out of office, Dean Angelo was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Upon learning that the Citywide Team had swept all the offices, certain members of that illustrious group went on a spending spree with the FOP credit cards. Literally thousands of dollars of the membership money went out the door for steak dinners and other assorted restaurant bills. In the name of "healing" and "fraternal brotherhood," the Citywide Team declined to file charges. Guess who didn't miss his "share" of the goodies? Now he gets our (the members) car?

Here is an easy fix to the problem. Lease the President a car. 3 yr term, 3 yr lease problem solved. However don't bitch when the mileage is high and you have to pay at the end. Monthly limit on how much a lease can cost. At the end of the 3 if the guy wants to buy it from the dealer? Go ahead. I'm sure other past president were not any better. Move on and let's get to work showing unity and strength for a very hard contract. I would have voted yes for the repairs. I honestly don't know this answer but what does Kevin Graham drive?

Retired Sgt. here, NOT a fop member, never will be. Just got back from Springfield and getting ready for D.C., both on my own dime. Always amazed and pissed off on how the fop elite are always there, staying at the best hotels, eating at the top dining spots on the memberships dues. Then, when out of office, they are too busy to honor our fallen officers. Same for the department exempt, they go IF someone else is picking up the tab. There is a small group of active and retired officers I see at both events on a regular basis, paying their own way. I feel that if fop can remove Shields picture from their website, Nolan and Dineen should be removed also. They stuck it to us years ago with health care (only $2.00a check). How much do they get as "past" presidents?

Private companies give a monthly vehicle stipend. Out if it you pay repairs, gas, plates, city stickers and the monthly finance. This relieves the company of liability when your wife or kids drives it. Or when you get in an accident. When you leave you take the car. It is yours.i know people that buy a good used car and make a few bucks for themselves. Fine. Just don't fuck other people over.

I do not see why the union has to provide vehicles for board members. Most people use their own vehicle to commute to and from their jobs. If you are called out for a street incident or have to attend a hearing during the day, then file an expense report for mileage reimbursement, the way most of company business is conducted in America. Or take a tax write off on your personal vehicle. There are always people who once they get into some sort of position of authority really think that they are special and are not good stewards of the companies money and resources.
I guess you need unions but they are all the same. The people who get elected are just like any other politician. They go for it for their own benefit and have to throw the members a bone now and then to keep their bullshit job but in reality good care less about you.
This is your Fraternity - it's a business that's supposed to support Cops, not act as a personal piggy bank for the schmucks that run it for you. I'd show up en masse to his house - tell him he's giving the fucking car back or you're calling the feds to investigate.

This is financial mismanagement 101 and why most cops are always broke. It would have been cheaper had they purchased the extended factory warranty when they bought the car, or purchased it before the vehicle lost its original warranty. It's only about 2k for for an additional 3 or 5 years of extra of coverage.

Why is the FOP providing anybody with a car at all? It is 2017. Unless you are a corporate CEO, those perks disappeared in the private sector a LONG time ago (pensions too, sorry to say). In this economy, he's damn lucky to even have a job. If you look at the real numbers (GDP, unemployment, inflation velocity of money, etc) calculated the way they used to be calculated, we are in a depression and have been for some time. Roll back the bennies. It's gonna happen anyways. We are awash with debt (city, state, nation, world) and the piper is looking antsy for payment. Scaling back on your own terms is vastly better than having cutbacks forced upon you. At least if you do it voluntarily you have some say in what stays and what goes.

Not sure how much mileage was on the hooptie but $5000 for repairs is steep for a 5 yr old car, knowing Chryslers it probably needs a icomplete front suspension.
If it's tires, struts, ball joints, control arms, tie rods, sway links and alignment maybe around $2000 dealer install parts & labor.
Throw in another $500 for cv joints and brakes since everything is off at this stage.
But letting a car get to that condition (when you have an expense account) is ghetto irresponsible. Shameful.
Nothing like getting rotator cuff or knee surgery before retiring I guess.

Most companies use IRS's reimbursement rate when a personal vehicle is used for business or charitable purposes. I know the FOP isn't "most companies" but come on. For 2017 the rate 53.5 cents per mile. If you drove 3,000 miles in a year it'd cost FOP $1,605.00. Screw buying a car, everybody turn in mileage and get reimbursed. Somebody needs to bring this up to the Board.

Heard it yesterday reported on Channel 7. It is to be an honorary Aeronautical Engineering degree because he wanted to be a pilot after he got his GED and was done thugging, smoking weed and physically attacking people. Positively disgusting and quite ridiculous. Also, the parents were to be attendance at the ceremony and accept the degree.
Who at the FOP owns a chop shop... cause this is what it sounds like. No way in hell you get 5k in repairs unless you get an engine, transmission, and some paint work done... but I gotta say the timing is right asshole

As someone else posted, what about the call box that is missing? For years an old Chicago Police call box sat on the FOP President's desk. When the newly elected crew showed up at the hall the call box and other itens were missing. We will never know everything that group of crooks stole from us.

Great program. There are 19 trustees and the president can only vote when there is a tie.
As someone else posted, what about the call box that is missing? For years an old Chicago Police call box sat on the FOP President's desk. When the newly elected crew showed up at the hall the call box and other itens were missing. We will never know everything that group of crooks stole from us.

The call box was a signature piece and in the center background whenever Mark Donahue and Mike Shields were interviewed at their desk in the President's office within the FOP building. Deano pushed it off to the side and placed it on top of a cabinet with other things in front of it. The call box was not in the camera shot when Deano was at the desk. It was slightly visible when he was interviewed at the table in the President's office. I sincerely hope someone contacts him and explains he has 48 hours to return the call box or a GOCR will be generated.
Move on from Dean. Hes gone. Get out the hate spigot for the new crew. Don't worry in the matter of a month or two Kevin will be hated as much or even more.Worry about your families. Stay fetal and employed.
Off topic. Was listening to CW1, a call of a burg in progress in 016 not far from house. Homeowner heard what he believes is someone breaking into his house. Switch over to zone, Dispatcher asks if anyone is close. No one answered. In the following 15 minutes, cars go down on L checks, dropping partners off at station, a couple of lunches. No one in 30 sector says they are close. They are all very far away they say. About 20 minutes go by, Dispatcher says homeowner checked himself and it was not a burglar. 34 says ok, they are getting close now. Are you fucking kidding me. Bunch of empty uniforms in 016. You useless POS sicken me. Been dealing with lazy 016 dist POS for over 20 years, and it's only getting worse. Yeah yeah, I know come and do it myself. I can't, I rather deal with the ghetto that a bunch of whining, lazy POS.
Need to demand a forensic audit of the fop

I don't know why everyone wants to hate on Dean. He is a great family man and was a great officer. Everyone like to point fingers and say that he should have done this or that differently. People who don't know how politics work in this city have no room to talk. If everything was cut and dry and political leaders, Superintendent etc could all do as they please can everyone just imagine how much worse off the city would be. This is life people want things your way move to your own island and run it the way you want otherwise deal with it. Life isn't always easy and everyone who says they could do a better job why didn't you step up and take your shot. Nothing changes if all people do is complain. Now look what you have in the FOP office let's see all that complained about Dean do the same thing all over again.

In most departments union positions are volunteer positions, much like politicians are supposed to be. You are volunteering your services in hopes of improving the union. The fact that it is a full time job and paid for is great, but not common in this day and age. Providing a car for the individual(s) to use at thier leisure is complete nonsense and a waste of membership dues. I do believe travel comes with the position, so purchase a vehicle that remained at the hall, for official business only, like any PO does now. We come to work in our own car, receive our assignments, get in our work vehicle, and handle our official business. At the end of our tour, we return our official vehicle to our workplace, get in our personal vehicle, and go home.

Election results appeared to show that graham supporters won the majority of the trustee spots and suddenly they are now independent. Just more smoke and mirrors
Message to the new FOP 7 Board of Directors.
We the members, elected you to restore honor, dignity and accountability to our lodge. Part of your responsibility is to ask yourself, what would the members want in this situation? If you think that the members would or could construe your vote on any issue as going against the best interest of the membership, you would be advised to vote in the interest of the members. We did not elect you because you are smarter than us, we elected you because you had the taken the time to attend 8 meetings in the past year prior to the election. This most recent action where some board members saw it fit to award one of the members assets, the car to the past president is deplorable and stands for everything that is wrong with our union. We the members feel that there is nobody watching over our assets and this behavior will lead to the destruction of the FOP. Every single board member that opposed the give away of the members assets must file charges against Dean and those who conspired with him to defraud the membership. If you don't we will know that you have zero legitimacy, accountability or interest in protecting the assets of the members. I promise and swear that I will not use my office for personal gain and if I do so I agree to a penalty of expulsion from the lodge. You just took this effing oath so its time to act or suffer the consequences.

It should be a standard operating procedure (SOP) whenever the management has been changed.
Go to St. Jude's but backfill other Districts - Leave Big TONY standing all by himself, its takes so much time for him to satisfy his ego he probably doesn't know any of his officers names to begin with. Just slip in with 22 20 19 and leave that prick standing alone.
I will be contacting the Board of ethics unless dean is ifficially retired. If nir he is,still bound by rules and regs and ethics . They seem to have new found balls down there. Next call goes to inspector general this is not what the dues paying members vited for
It's all appearances. Dean Jr gets promoted refuses to list his score. Then goes to the Mayor's Detail? Dean Sr brings a 2012 car in for repairs after being voted out of office and the bill is $5000.00. Then he asks to keep the car? Talk about gaming the system. Now you want to keep the car. You are right, the supervision is part of the problem. Hopefully you will never have to call the police in 016, if you do you will be in for quite the disappointment. I've called 3 times in 20 years, the quickest response was 20 minutes. And they never got out of the car. Longest was about an hour for an open door at my house. And don't believe the we are understaffed BS. I do USM G/016, constantly to see what's going on. Not much. The problem is the culture of laziness and unwillingness to do their jobs. That is why the shitheads are invading with impunity. There are no cops to stop them. Just empty uniforms driving to the hole.

I'm a board member and Dougherty voted no for the car. The best thing Dean could do is give the car back. It turns out he lied to the board about the value.
$100.00 a ticket for a chance to win the car. I know of 50 people that would have bought the ticket for a car for their teenager.

I thought Grahams team won the majority of the trustees soods
FOP oath of office; I promise and swear that i will not use the virtue of my office for personal gain, if I do so, I shall be subject to no lesser a penalty than expulsion from the FOP. Well boys and girls as a member of the FOP I believe lying about the value of and asset that belongs to the FOP membership as well as the repair estimate has only one consequence and that is the personal gain of Dean Angelo. It does not get any clearer to me and if someone does not bring up charges this union leadership will loose the little respect the membership had in them in record time after being elected. Those who conspired with Dean, Joey G for sure should also be brought up on charges.
I'll bet Dean Sr gave that money to Dean jr for his down payment on his new house.
