Good Point
Paging through our most recent FOP newsletter/magazine, we find this point made in the President's column:
- "Take a close look at the Inspector General's report. On one hand, the report cites the fact that officers are accumulating comp time, something that costs the City too much, he argues. But at the same time, officers throughout the City complain they can never get time off."
This is especially timely in light of the list of cancelled and/or restricted time off for the next few weekends. The Department is racking up OT at an amazing clip once again. We've been offered OT last week for Pride weekend, from 01 July through 05 July for the holiday. We fully expect to be offered even more in coming weekends for various festivals and parades.
But god forbid we even try to extend on of those weekends for a family event. The IG is trying to have Rahm'scock cake and eat it, too.
Start (massive) hiring or quit bitching when you're making up the shortages on our backs.

Right now, overtime is voluntary and like dum-dums we sign up for it because, we like the money......
but what happens when all of us decide we won't volunteer for overtime, and the city forces us to work overtime? they can do that (duty availability)..... what's to keep the city from forcing officers to work overtime all the time to make up for the shortages of manpower?
Even if we boycotted VRI, reverse seniority for OT would be the order of the day....
Test result are in from last police test, I thought the mayor and super said 15,000 applied for the test, result show 7,437 took the test.
We'd love to use our earned time off but the city and bosses won't let us. It's one of the worst things about the job now. Can't plan anything cause you don't know if you will get denied or not. The city can't cry about time on the books cause it's the city that let it build up. Typical belly aching about their own doing. Same goes for the pension mess.
Simple Solution. The raaaacist, sexist, homophobic jackbooted thug police should work overtime for free!
Power to the People!
You know that someone will demand this, don't you?
Now is the time to do mass hiring. Hopefully Trump will fund police departments in his crime bill so more cops can be hired.

Q: Would you let your children join the CPD or Cook County Sheriffs Department today?
Why or Why Not?

The city is planning another test for later this year.
(OT) Charlie is busy look at this 10:30 PM to woman in a car shot and killed in the mayor says? And the alderman say? All the carnage all the bloodshed all the murder and they are still going to their wine and cheese party's laughing it up having a great time as people are being murdered and shot like wild animals they have decimated the police department they have bastardize Chicago police officers they elected along with the completely dishonest media are the direct cause of all of this! Notice how there are absolutely no protest nothing at the offices at the homes of the elected who have caused all of this wonder why?

When you retire the city will not be able to pay you for all of your CU time on the books they will tell you take us to court
Not CPD, but I wonder whether there is any intention of making good on the promise of comp time. I recall working for a big Chicago company that had a policy where you could bank vacation and sick time forever, then one day they simply announced that you had to take all of it by a certain date or lose it.
The IG would never recommend hiring. That would make Rahm stamp his tiny feet.
How many times have the Police said "We need more manpower."?
Hasn't it become abundantly clear you're not getting more Officers? The city wants you working more hours, wants you to be tired and making mistakes, so you can be prosecuted.
The city's not funding your retirement anymore, but has millions for other projects. Criminals and illegal aliens are protected, the police are prosecuted, and democrats get re-elected.
Enough to make a working man sick!
J.J.
What the Dept has to do stop people from retiring.
Some of the suburbs only allow you to keep a limited amount of time on books, just imagine, days off, 9 hours of sleep, 3 day weekends, wow, what a concept.
question my rdo is canceled but pdays and comp time are being allowed by to froms from the deputy chief. for individuals with less time WTF , greivance
I work in the hood. Think I have about 7hrs on the books. Who can't get time off? Earn and burn baby!!!!
With the VD Lynching in progress wouldn't some Independence Day red , white, and blue flu be in order ?
No do you really have to ask why
Thank you City of Chicago for denying my time due for years. I was able to collect a massive payout upon retirement and I can look forward to two more.

That just means 1/2 didn't show up.
Soooo... Great America is giving POs huge discounts to grace their facilities with our presence, wait... but for what dates?? Yup... 01 Jul - 05 Jul. Then, the Chicago Fire Soccer team has discounted ticket prices for POs to show their appreciation to the department. Greeeeeeaaat... but for what dates? Oh yeah, 01 Jul. Well if you can't make those then Soldier Field is honoring wounded vets and having the "Warrior Dash" games this weekend where some country stars will be performing and decided to extend free tickets to POs for their dedication to service. Oh wait... that's for 01 Jul as well. Funny how all three coincide with the mandatory 4th of July OT initiative and RDO cancellations which we'll all be working. I'm sure HQ and the other house mouses can still enjoy these deals with their families because who is really keeping tabs on those guys coming in those days any way?

Stupid question?
Your children, if able to apply for the CPD, are adults.
They can and will make their own decisions. The only thing you can do is have a conversation with them regarding their career choices.
City is short many police officers.... Although you take this job expecting the worst, total bs when every holiday your RDO they cancel and make you come in and work. Graham needs to step up. If your weekend rdo gets cancelled because of holiday, you should be compensated better.
You know why they are offering overtime when they have no money as it is?
Because they are DARING YOU to decline it. They are trying their hardest to hang you guys out to dry when the next Dallas happens, when the next Berkeley happens, when the next Baltimore, ferguson and Dallas and Berkeley combined happens.
Politicians are SETTING YOU UP to take the blame, because you didn't want to work and as such left the "pride week" or whatever it is left vulnerable.
Make no mistake, you are being set up.
The City is lucky they don't have to pay interest on accrued Compensatory Time.
Used to nice to have a stash of 2-300 hours on the books to use for extendings weekends off, especially on summer midnights back when we had 6/2 rdos and rotating watches. But that's was also when we had legitamate Lt's and Capt's. who looked out for you.
I wonder how safe it is these days to hoard Comp Hours given the state of the City's finances and how long will it be before eventually the , it unfolds up (if ever) under bankruptcy protection. Rahm or the next overspending Democrat will always attempt to screw over the police at every chance.
Many retired with 1500 to 3500 hour payouts.
What would be "average" these days?
Use the CU up because it's a shithole disrict or hoard a years pay hoping to buy that retirement Vette?
It's Rahm's Anti-Police agenda Joe is pushing.
Seems all of a sudden (again) OT & CU is our fault.
I recall Ex-Supt. Leroy Martin was pushing for a 300 hr. accumulated limit to Comp Time.
Let's see the OT tally of Rahm's Detail, or the waste and grift of Rahm's PR Staff.
She resigned wonder maybe Feds looking at her?

Usually isn't done that way. Problem is if Trump funds new hires it's only for a specific number of years, usually 3 years. After that the city would have to pick up the salaries and I'm sure chicago doesn't want to do that
It's going to be like Detroit in a few years
You guys are wrong they are hiring 1200 more this year... oh wait, that's right they stopped taking new academy classes for the summer until October...
I retired with 1.5 years of comp time, vacation. Get all you can before rahmie and takes it away!
How many politicians will be working over the weekend?

.……
Only 10% of those can actually be cleared to finish the testing process. That is why one reason the department can't keep up with the hiring. Also, a lot of people, although maybe good people, get hired and aren't the best candidates. No room to be selective.
Remove the residency and that will change. Who in their right mind would raise a family in Chicago? Who can afford it? Private schools. Property taxes constantly going up while property value going down. No real safe neighborhoods anywhere. All what's left of the Police are in other neighborhoods. No support. No protections. Father Fakker calling to people to riot if JVD isn't convicted....

Contact the FOP and see what they say. The have to file the grievance. I'm sure there is something in the contract or general orders covering that. Been going on for decades. Same po's drop a to from to change to summer furlough. Usual excuse is family reunion, wedding, nothing has changed or will change.

You mean asshole Rahm and FatHeadEd would lie?
Say it ain't so.
The 004 district third watch reverse seniority is cancelling coppers with 24yrs on the job. And still need more help.
I'm sure that this has been posted before, but when I came on the job all Time Due was earned hour for hour, no time and a half. You could keep it on the books, however at the end of the year ALL unused time was wiped from the books and you started the new year at zero.
Money was not an option either.
Ferguson refuses to investigate davina Ward on a different matter even though he was told to by IPRA.
That's good. Under CFR rules concerning labor the damages are triple. So when you retire, and if the city refuses to pay you, you will turn those 1000 hours into 3000 hours. I hope they are that stupid.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you retire the city will not be able to pay you for all of your CU time on the books they will tell you take us to court
Take a look downtown and then ask that question again.
