Grievance?

Anyone know if the boys and girls at the Gun Lab have a grievance with the Department farming out evidence collection and analysis of brass? Especially when the Federal van has to return to Homan Square anyway to use city electricity to run their gamma spectromoeters, gas chromographs, nuclear accelerators, etc.

It certainly would seem to be grounds for some sort of concern.

Those guys would not grieve anything. You think they want to give us their weekends of and day schedule? Not to mention the unlimited amount of OT they can have sitting inside and knowing what time they are going home each day and not getting stuck with a late shooting or homicide.

I would be more concerned that the feds might discover those chambers in the sub basements of Homan Square, and what goes on in them.

Meh... Rham will eventually bust up that club and send them back to patrol as a part of his 1000 more cops on the beat election campaign... so who ever has a Tahoe prepare to get it clogged in the snow so Rhamulus to lend you a helping 4.5 while throwing a cop under the bus with the other 5

On the patrol side, that would be the equivalent of feds or state coming in and handling some jobs. We're not contractually guaranteed tasks to do at work. The whole van thing is a farce for sure, but a grievance?

Speaking of grievances... I'm a newer officer but not a ppo, I do not receive duty availability pay. My RDO has been canceled for the upcoming holiday week and I am being forced to work. Do I have a valid grievance? Any help is appreciated

How many cases get thrown out when the Federal technician is unavailable to testify at trial?

No matter how open and shut the case is, a smart, well paid or just persistent defense lawyer will play every angle.
The gun forensics are a big, big freaking angle.
Just wait, The federal forensic will be objected to.
What do you mean the technician is not able to testify?
If the defendant cannot confront the witness, we have no choice but to throw out the evidence.
What? You cannot prove how the victim died because the gun evidence was thrown out?
Too bad, NOT GUILTY! NEXT CASE!

More misinformation surrounding this issue.

The collection of evidence is not being farmed out to the Feds. ETs are afforded overtime on their RDO's on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to collect spent shells from the ETs processing aggravated battery and homicide scenes.

These "courier" ETs take custody of this evidence, return to Homan Square to inventory it where it is then manifested to the Gun Lab personnel who then take it to the NIBIN van for entry into the national database. Chain of custody is fully documented on both the inventory and the associated CSPRs completed by everyone involved (ET processing scene, courier ET and gun lab people).

The van doesn't have to return to Homan because it never leaves. The only time it did was for a dog and pony show when those two girls were shot on the playground on the last day of school. It wasn't capable of doing anything other than look important as it was hooked up to no power source at that scene. That was all to pacify the natives.

Now as far as the analysis of the brass? Trust me when I tell you none of us here in the gun lab could give two shits that the Feds are inputting ballistic info into the system, as it makes less work for us (and we have a ton of it). And hiring back 2 ETs to run ballistic evidence from scenes (as well as handle less involved everyday ET jobs when not running evidence to the NIBIN van) helps ease the workload of the overworked, short staffed ETs.

This process with the Fed NIBIN van accomplishes exactly the same thing we do everyday in the lab, only they're here for a total of 24 hours over the course of three days. This is all smoke and mirrors, nothing more. And the only reason it's here is because fat head Ed saw that it was in use in Baltimore when he visited recently and begged them to send it here next. Chalk this up as nothing more than another distraction to bigger, more important issues. And the dummies just eat it up.

Are these ATF guys ready to come back a couple tears down the road to give testimony? Is Kimmie ready to pay for them?

Some people have cushy enough jobs so that a grievance is out if the question.

The gun lab guys are too busy trying to get overtime so they can buy that Lt another new gun for Christmas....just like they were forced to last year. An AR 15 for your inside spot with weekends off.

Find out how many times any of them actually testified about their process in court. Most tell the ASAs that they are too busy to go to court. Most would shit their pants if they had to hit the stand. One little guy always fakes a diarrhea episode and if that fails he tells them that his wife, who doesn't drive needs him to take her to a doctor's appointment, again.

Why send a plumbing truck from Washington D.C.
to fix leaky pipes in Chicago?

Call the FOP and ask them. Make the FOP do some work on this mess that Dean Angelo started.

After reading the explanation above, it seems like the van is just more work for Chicago's own ET's.

They don't dare rock the boat. Rhams people have already started to look into ways of outsourcing the forensic unit. Evidence would be collected by civilians and processed by civilians. There would be one or two good sworn "supervisor " positions. It was being talked about at the last police conference by some vendors.

(OT) Then we have this from market-watch stories:

Low-income families spend 40% of their money on luxuries

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/low-income-families-spend-40-of-their-money-on-luxuries-2017-06-28

Hey crazy toni would that be also like using taxpayers dollars to buy soda and sweeten drinks after you tax the shit out of working people? Was at jewel store link card holder in front of bought big cart of groceries, said "double bag everthin" all without paying the tax, on bags bet she will be buying lots of soda also!

How many houses have we been called to where they have huge TVs, new cars and much more all while on link? Free milk-free schools-free housing and not only them but then rahm stands up and along with durbin tammy and that crew plus the 50 violates federal immigration laws which will cost us billions in federal tax dollars and that includes policing!Think about it the thugs and illegals know this and they follow the leader of the "we disobey laws" movement as the carnage rampage continues whats the over/under for the 4 day weekend? Thinking 60 shot 15 dead! Any guesses?

To the "newer officer": you can file a write out a grievance form, but the grievance is owned by the FOP and they will yank it when it is received. Best bet, is to stay on top of your Unit Rep and have them push for Duty Avil. during negotiation meetings.(and everything else Dean gave up).

Hardly a grievance when CrimeLab is getting a paycheck on the 1st & 16th.

I'll bet that if the ATF has (gets mo) the money they will utilize the CL for a Spec Emp. Initiative just for the Techs.
Even if they only stay for July, Special Ed will have nothing but praises for the ATF Program.
All Special Ed and Nav has to do is show that the wonderful ATF is "understaffed" to handle all the valuable community evidence so far collected. Scrounge up a few more thousands of govmint Spec Emp money and the AFT Program will be here until October.
Just like ike the short lived DHS Under Waterway Tunnel CTA deal.

Think like a Merit Hack joe.
The Crime Lab isn't short manpower,
The City is just adjusting to a seasonal influx of brass casings.
Community First.
It's not crime, it's brass.

Sounds like a ethics violation.
