- Downtown Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) has made an “urgent request” for more overnight police patrols on the Lakefront Trail, the downtown Riverwalk and in Streeterville after a 25-year-old Lawndale woman was shot and killed in his ward early Sunday.
Reilly has also requested more surveillance cameras, better lighting and the overnight shutdown during warm weather months of an underpass at Ohio and Lake Shore Drive used to access the beach, the Lakefront Trail and Navy Pier.
It was near that underpass in the 500 block of East Ohio that 25-year-old Raven Lemons was shot in the head and killed around 2 a.m. Sunday. It was the first downtown homicide reported this year, but violent crime has been on the rise, along with the temperatures.
Has Brendan not been paying attention? We're short - have been for years. Rahm's promises don't amount to a hill of beans anyway.

The report I read about that particular shooting said it happened at 5 AM and the shooters were gunning for the guy she was with, not her. All the cops in the world cannot prevent the murder of an "innocent" woman who chooses to associate with gangbangers. I work on the policy unit at headquarters. I came up with the idea of putting four wagons in the area and installing three working PDTs in each wagon. Officers can write their ISRs or reports on the PDTs while keeping an eye on the area. The idea is getting traction, doing more with less.
With David Orr's announcement, this is our chance to elect a Republican. It is not too late. We can make it happen!

As if VRI wasn't bad enough already with the unsafe vehicles and traffic and seat belt missions in the hot spots of the city. Now comes a new "pilot" program started today at VRI south. The city has now rented a couple of passenger vans in which officers will be transported and dropped off in areas designated by the watch commander of the district in which the officers are assigned. For example, today the district chosen was 007 so the sergeant met with the Watch operations LT who instructed the VRI sergeant what area he wanted the officers to
Be dropped off. The vans will be assigned to a different PEZ zone every day so that everyone gets a turn. Throw in the fact that the hours for VRI have changed for the summer to 1900-0300. This idea was apparently thought of by someone in a cubicle at headquarters. Talk about putting officers at greater risk, especially given the growing and frequent use of rifles by these criminals out here.

How about staffing the 016th district ? Why isn't Laurino and the others screaming for more police? We get taxed enough. Crime has increased here and with that JO Arena pressing for "affordable housing" , i.e. Section 8, it won't get any better.

Reilly went along with the program to put the POS building at 5880 NW Hwy. Never heard a peep from him when people in my ward were being called racists because we're concerned about crime increasing in our neighborhood.
