So, More Airport Openings?
- From now on, the Chicago Police Department will be the lead responder on disturbance calls at the airport and on planes, not aviation security officers, according to a new city directive issued in response to the infamous dragging incident on a United Airlines flight at O'Hare International Airport.
The department also will remove the word "police" from the uniforms and vehicles of aviation security officers. The directives build on plans already discussed by the city's Aviation Department, which also is updating procedures and training for airport security.
That last few airport openings were filled by bids with 26-to-28 years, but it certainly looks like they're going to need bodies...unless they want response times measured in quarter hour increments.

No one has asked some very obvious questions here:
1) Will the revamped Aviation "security officers" still receive their pensions for 20+ years of service, or has that changed too?
2) Are the revamped Aviation "security officers still required to pass a yearly firearm qualification course?
3) Will future hires be required to possess FOIDs?
4) Is Springfield going to pull the police officer certifications that current Aviation "security officers" currently hold? Some of the Aviation "security officers" work as part time (armed) police officers for other jurisdictions. What happens to them now?
When I travel through an airport, I think I prefer the Police that are there to protect me from terrorists actually have guns.

Aviation security has always been access control, Have never made arrests,etc. Caused alot of heartache with their nonsense suspicious person crap or vehicles. Even had a doa security guy call on his co worker who was asleep in his personal car by post 1 as a dead body in car.....unbelievable

I retired years ago from the airport, with aviation, and we had 189 and 21 dogs authorized. Without aviation, at least 250 and 21 dogs would be needed.

Don't think for a minute the private security company is not already in place why do you think the overpaid extremely over paid as a matter of fact Velasquez was brought in? He is obviously connected big time the airports need a lot of work as far as security ginger Evans should've been terminated immediately the head of the snake is what causes all the problems with the Fish stinks from the head down is the old adage just look at the city of Chicago think about how bad it is here with our mayor he has the closet and the reason for everything that is happening it's his lack of skill lack of knowing what to do lack of putting the proper people in charge!
When they can do that to the department of Aviation Police through their political people who is this say they cannot do that to the entire Chicago Police Department? Who is the say they couldn't do that to the university of Chicago Police Department? The answer is they are anti-police without a doubt ! it is not like this would have gone down a whole lot different if it were cops involved instead of the aviation people. a whole bunch of people screwed up along the way and no one thought "gee, this is a really dumb idea" and stopped to think for a few minutes. the whole thing could have been avoided a whole bunch of places along the line, but for some reason the choice to use force was made, for no real good reason. One can argue it was legal, but legal and being a good idea, and making ones' selves look like a goon squad unnecessarily is something else.
It's going to be ok because this is how Democrats work. This is how liberal PC works.
1) Change their name from police to security because of one incident.
2) Increase CPD at airport which is good for us. Not good for manpower but more cush gigs.
3) Someone benefits with their make shift security company that is not needed.
I realized years ago that the aviation security "officers" were connected do-nothings when I ran into retired former A/2 Youth Officer G.C. working security at Midway. He was the type of youth officer who would berate you when you notified him that you had a juvenile arrest, because he was "too busy" to handle it, or he "was just going to lunch," or for some other lame reason. I never met a lazier police officer in my entire career, and yet here he was working at the airport.
So it was no surprise when he told me that he had even less to do working security than he had when he was a youth officer. If these are the types of people who will be laid off, then so be it.
Strange working at CPD range all of the aviation guys came through last 3 weeks to qualify and they all did! wtf is ginger doing now? why is she not terminated?
Then you look through this and talking to airport bosses they want the doa now security officers to stop cars on airport property which includes the entrance ramps to both airports and issue tickets read this not hard to understand:

File a grievance. Friend of mine did it one time, they stopped the transfer and he bid in. After that they were supposed to post bid openings and could not put a 20% in if their guy couldn't make the bid. Quit complaining and call FOP and grieve it Don't let them get away with it or it will continue to happen

CPD handles calls on the planes all the time and know better.

Majority of aviation police officers lives will be ruined. Grant it most aren't seasoned street cops ( but did get exact same training in academy as suburban Leo's) but a large fraction military vets ,ton grew up with police families some got fucked back in 90s when cpd was fucking cops kids and cops relations on cpd. And a ton in last 10+ years were street cops part time in a lot of shitty suburban areas.Lot of good retired cpd nice job for cpd to work another decade still putting into deferred comp. Old timers coppers ah schucks well it was a great run. Young guys still can get the fuck out. Guys/gals with time in too young to grab a pension too old to stay for the most part in law enforcement. Why this sight just shits on Apd. Most times apd was 1st on scene before cpd before cfd to acess the situation render help etc let's face it not many 10-1 or domestics. Most again have cpd families and why would cpd shit all over them? Why isn't anybody making the case that united airlines took 100% financial responsibility. Evans couldn't pass an intro to speech class unbelievable. And in my 22 years cpd and apd had for the most part a respectable working relationship. Most cpd were glad we had their backs.You guys preach stay fetal is airport anymore fetal? Unarmed police officers shows a ton of moxy a ton of balls. Dispatch called apd to same shit they were calling cpd into! Until recently. This is a power play by 9.5 to fuck mostly good ppl . What happens to 300 families? At the end of the day anyone who wears blue and is there ultimately with same ideals principles and morals is on the same side should all stick together.
