- Flanked by four Cook County sheriff’s officers, Corey Morgan didn’t respond to the insults and threats hurled at him by other inmates as he was led through the Cook County Jail.
“You know you gon’ die in that m———-. You know you gon’ die in there.”
Morgan — charged with murder in the shooting death of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee on the South Side in November 2015 — hadn’t been in custody long. But already it was clear to him and to Cook County Jail officials he wouldn’t be safe in the sprawling jail complex at 26th and California.
For Morgan and others charged in high-profile killings of kids in Chicago, being held in jail poses special threats. Other detainees threaten and beat them. They ask for and get protective custody, away from those who’d do them harm. Or they are transferred to jails elsewhere.
Well what did they think was going to happen? Luring a 9-year-old into an alley and then executing him - even the substrata of society has its own pecking order and guess where these assholes landed? damn near the bottom.
And the Slum Times wastes ink on this why? We're supposed to feel what? Sorry for these assholes? We'll bet there aren't a dozen individuals in the whole of Cook County who would shed a actual tear for any of these killers. Oh, there are those family members who would cry and threaten to sue Dart for not protecting their poor little innocent altar boy who was just turning his life around when he was beaten to death in the shower at the jail. But that's an act....as it always is.
We'd give it about as much thought as picking a stray thread off our uniform.

I hope they torture him for days, then tear him apart slowly. He deserves to suffer agony before he dies.

It's just really bad sensationalist journalism, on one hand they crucify a cop that gives an asshole a smack for spitting on him, costing him his job and prison time and on the other hand the publish articles like this mocking the Offender and glorifying the prison justice he will endure, with a slight undertone to the readers about how he'll probably be murdered in prison and justice will be served.
It is a nice thought but all 4 have rank.
They will stick them in a building with other ass hats they hang with in the hood and be well fed.

Maybe it was geared towards these gang bangers on the street to show if you kill an innocent kid this is what's in store
The media's got to attack law enforcement and try to get pity for all criminals. After all, it's a sanctuary city for ALL criminals and illegal aliens, no matter how disgusting the P.O.S. is.

Who gives a rat's ass that nine degenerates who executed, murdered, little kids are being threatened by other jail inmates? Even the killers family's, if they had an once of humanity in them, should disown them for being the subhuman animals they are.
So who exactly is 'reporter' Sam Charles trying to reach here with his apparent plea of sympathy for the nine savages? It should be 'a bridge too far' even for liberals.
If anything, a general, 'Who gives a fuck what happens to them!' should be the resounding response by all. Even in Chicago.

As we all know the Sun-Times is a journalistic gem. Mr. Charles extensive background (per his Linkedin account) is writing for the Brown Line Media, the Columbia Chronicle, and the ever popular Hyde Park Herald. Nothing but Pulitzer Prize quality is good enough for the Sun-Times. Heard they were recently recruiting at the United Center when some of their targeted recruits unfortunately became unruly.
Sure, publicize it- maybe the next guy will think twice!

In 1999 a corrupt governor put a hold on all capital punishment in Illinois, does anyone else see the pattern since then? Has crime gotten any less common, did the crimes get less heinous, are our jails any better at rehabilitating criminals now?
This person took the life of a 9 year old boy in a callus premeditated way, there is no doubt of his guilt, and the only appropriate punishment for him is capital punishment.
Think about the bright side, how much in public aid did it save society.
The Sun-Times is publishing it because it's interesting, not because it's intended that a reader be sympathetic.
