Anyone See Divvy's Books?

  • In 2016, the city of Baltimore partnered with Bewegen Technologies to launch North America’s largest electrical-assisted cycling (or pedelec) bike sharing program. The system is located in Baltimore’s metropolitan area with over 25 stations available. Fast forward one-year later, this grand "sharing economy" experiment in America’s most dangerous city has imploded due to what the company's CEO says is a level of theft he has never experienced before.

As of today, Baltimore officials have suspended all operations of the bike fleet until October 15, 2017. According to the Baltimore Sun, the temporary shutdown is due to “thieves ripping the bicycles out at an unprecedented pace”, said Alain Ayotte, CEO of Bewegen Technologies, the Canadian manufacturer. The manufacturer of the $2.36 million Baltimore Bike Share system said his company has "never experienced the level of theft" that caused officials to announce a temporary shutdown of the program to allow additional locking devices to be installed to the bike docks.
We're seeing less bikes in docks and more Divvy vans picking up damaged bikes at locking stations. We're also seeing Rahm continue with the Bike Lane spending spree (over $100,000 per mile?) Is Chicago making any sort of money on this? Is any reporter looking into this or are they just waiting by the phone for the next hit piece authored by City Hall?

The city of Chicago (Rahm) has given Divvy over $10,000,000.00 in tax dollars as a FREE GRANT

Divvy Bikes. Great Idea on paper.

So is Communism.

Unlike Communism, hopefully Divvy Bikes won't kill anyone, much less the 250 Million people like Communism has.

Someone probably figured out how to part the bikes out, and found a market for the parts? If they can feed their habit on copper pipes and aluminum window scrap, an electric bike probably offers some easy money.

This bike bullshit is symptomatic of idealistic capitalists
with extreme leftist socialist leanings. Their naive business
acumen will bankrupt them. People knew better in the
hippie 1960s.
The owners of these companies never lived in or near bad
neighborhoods. Never had a bike or wagon stolen as a kid.
When older they somehow avoided car theft, burglaries,
vandalism, and armed robbery.
The complicit mayors of these towns squander tax money
on pipe dreams. If the sharing economy is such a good
business idea, let them put their own funds at risk.

Pretty funny story. If Divvy is looking for a few stolen bikes they might want to look in south suburban Robbins. Seems to be the bike of choice lately and I can't find that damn docking station anywhere!

First off, the "bike lanes" in most of this city are for shit!!! Secondly, come down to 001 or 018 and take a look at the number of Divvy bikes being ridden by the fine, upstanding youth of our "fair city." The harass citizens, commit crimes on them and are a general menace to society. Third, we all know Rahm has his 9 1/2 fingers all up in this shit and he's getting a cut. Fourth, the non-criminal element that rides these hideous monstrositys, have no clue about bike rules. They too, are menaces to the citizens. Just get rid of the damn things!

Mike Madigan? who knows how much his cut is....

Time to Vote in a Republican Mayor and City Council for Chicago!

The true story of Divy in Chicago will not come out until years after Rahm is gone. Like everything else here, it is politics up the wazoo. Every bike could be stolen and Rahm would still be touting it's success.

Make every bike owner 12 and older require a city sticker tag. Have bike traffic units start citing these crazy cyclists who think traffic signals, and general traffic rules of the road don't apply to them.

Chicago and other cities had a similar program with cars. Chicago version went out of business do to high theft rate, cars signed out on stolen ID and credit cards, cars used in the commission of crimes and general damage to the cars. I guess the company should have excluded the scandinavians from the program.

Whenever I see a Divy Bike location in the hood I always wonder? Who in this area has a credit card with enough credit left on it to rent a bike? Oh I forgot the Thug who just stole a tourist's purse or wallet, makes you wonder how many bikes they lost to the stolen credit cards. A smart businessperson would remove Divys from the Hood but the liberals would cry it's racist.

i am a avid bicyclist in chicago.

i am totally against having separate bike lanes. all it does is fuck up traffic for cars, cost taxpayers money we don't have.

i always felt perfectly safe riding in the street with cars.

bikers and drivers just need to be aware of each other.

Rahm is a mooshmelon, and so are the 50 thieves.

If it's not chained up, expect the Chicago feral to destroy it if they can't steal it.
Plus there's special rates for the Underserved area.

As for Divvy books and accounting, Divvy is now Moivate, which was Alta Bicycle Share, and still may be CitiBike and Pronto, related partners include spinoff controlling entity called Equinox. This doesn't include Global partners in Canada and Australia.
After 25 years of digging maybe they'll might find Daley Family as the 51% stock holder, bought with taxpayer fleece.
But it's likely after the lobbying was done and commissions tendered, Daley Family Venture Investors Group LLC cashed out and dissolved as usual.
Now the current company can collapse and begin the write offs before indictment.

Fun Fact:
Divvy's are all aluminum frames and bikes are 40 pounders.
That's 40 to 50 cent a pound for the specialized aluminum as scrap.
One bike can easily score a hit of crack.
A cannibalized Divvy could bring another 20 to 30 dolla in parts and another toot.

If Rahm can, he will order CPD to use Divvys (and pay) to avoid buying new vehicles because President Trump won't give him any Sanctuary Funds.

The community wont respect and not steal members owned bikes, why would these fools think they wouldn't steal bikes that "both everyone and no one" owns?

TO the bike lane point - First, its only a matter of time before that lane itself gets a biker killed and then Illinois goes the way wisconsin did - bikers have a three foot bubble and it is a car drivers fault no matter the lane or situation. Make no mistake, this is all part of the central plot - which is two fold.

A)Have you noticed the bike lanes "require" the easement to be expanded? Think about it a minute - it is a land grab, literally.

B) While even Windy City politicians KNOW there is no "everyone bike to work" scenario possible, for like SNOW reasons alone, the REAL "drive" here of this bike lane expansion is simple - they really ARE making a play to take DRIVING itself away from us. Running over bikers IS being used as a tool toward that end.

2027 - pols campaigning claim......WE just can not have people driving cars themselves anymore, it is simply too dangerous. This is a task that must be done for us, for our own safety. Driverless cars are the way forward - government will now drive all the cars electronically controlled through google, so people are safe.

If yall don't see this, then you ain't lookin.

Cyclists that use bicycle lanes should be required to buy license plates issued by Chicago and traffic laws should be strictly enforced . Drive downtown and these cyclists , weave in and out of lanes , disobey stop signs , traffic signals , do not yield to pedestrians . Why is this allowed ?

Have you checked out anything from the Chicago Public Library lately.

Maybe because it unenforceable chicago can't even enforce the talking or texting on the phone laws and you want them to sell license plates and enforce bicycle laws. Who's going to enforce them? The police? They are struggling with 400 murders

Had the Divvy for a year and I can tell you that they are crap. Worst bike I ever rode. Foriegn substances on the seat and handlebars. $1,200 if you happen to lose the bike. And if you can't find a dock they start charging you for time after 30 minutes. Whole thing is a scam. Got a $100 Walmart bike that is oceans better than those shitcycles.

WORD! A 2500 tax break in another city will DO NO GOOD EVEN IF IT COMES TO CHICAGO. Yeah right! Until the raise the taxes again and by the time you know it you're getting stiffed anyhow. It doesn't make sense how you are mandated to live in the city, and yet the same people who are essentially controlling your paychecks are controlling your taxes that you will be GIVING right back. Think there was a law about this with COM ED electric company years back because they were monopolizing and it wasn't lawful under some act. So your 2500 you can keep because in the long run, it won't matter! IF YOU JUST GOT YOUR TAXES RAISED BY 10% LIKE MOST AND YOU ARE NOT SINGLE SO YOU CAN AFFORD A HALF DECENT OVERPRICED HOME, YOUR TAXES PROBABLY WENT UP AROUND $500, $500 A MONTH!!!!! (ON TOP OF THE $300 YOU WERE INITIALLY PAYING!!!) City residency needs to be lifted otherwise you will be paying for every tom dick and Larry who has no job and pays no taxes while feeding off the city and the state. Please let me pay for you medical care, your kids, your food stamps and not to mention your students who actually get paid by the CITY to ATTEND school which people don't even know about.

BECAUSE OF THE TAX INCREASE TAXES WENT FROM $300 NOW TO $800 = 9600/YEAR
VERSUS THE $3600 YOU WERE PAYING JUST LAST YEAR.
SO BEFORE OVER A 20 YEAR RETIREMENT IF YOU MAKE IT THAT LONG. YOU WERE GOING TO PAY $72,000 IN TAXES ROUGHLY A YEAR SALARY NOT TO MENTION THE NORMAL COST INCREASE JUST TO LIVE IN THE CITY DIFFERS ABOUT $18,000 FOR A EVEN SMALLER SPACE. SO WHEN YOU MAKE $80K/YEAR WITH NO OVERTIME, YOU'RE REALLY MAKING 62K, NOT TO MENTION YOUR TAXES GET TAKEN OUT SO NOW YOU ARE CLEARING JUST UNDER $50K, IF YOU HAVE KIDS YOU ARE SENDING THEM TO PRIVATE SCHOOL BECAUSE THE CPS SCHOOLS ARE ABSOLUTELY OUT OF CONTROL YOU ARE EVEN LESS. FROM LAST YEAR TO THIS YEAR OR EARLY NEXT YOU'RE TAXES IF THEY NEVER GO UP HAVE NOW TRIPLED FOR THAT 20YR PERIOD TOTALING $216,000 WHICH IS LIKE NOT GETTING PAID FOR 3 OR MORE YEARS OUT OF 20. SO IF YOU ARE THINKING OF BUYING A HOUSE, THINK AGAIN. THIS 2500 BREAK IF IT EVER COMES TO FOR THIS CITY WILL ONLY BE A MEANS TO AN END BECAUSE AS THEY GIVE YOU A TAX BREAK, YOUR TAXES WILL NEVER REMAIN THE SAME AND IT IS IN THE POLITICIANS HANDS WHO MOST HAVE THEIR HAND IN THE COOKIE JAR. THEY ARE SO WORRIED ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK AND BAD PUBLICITY, YET KEEP IN MIND WHO IS PROTECTING THIS CITY AND TAKING CARE OF IT DAY IN DAY OUT, FIRST RESPONDERS, CITY WORKS ETC. YOU SHOULD BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT HOW TO REBUILD THAT TRUST VERSUS THOSE TAX PAYERS WHO DON'T PAY A DIME AND SUCK OFF THE TIT OF EVERY GOVERNMENT ENTITY THEY CAN FIND AND THAT DOESNT INCLUDE SUEING THIS GREAT CITY BACK TO THE STONE AGE. PUSH THESE PEOPLE OUT AND MAKE THIS CITY GREAT AGAIN OR RESIGN BEFORE YOU GET FIRED FOR NOT DOING YOUR JOB ONCE THE FEDS STEP IN.
