CATA Training

HQ is going to swipe in and out? This will be entertaining:

For many, this will be the first time "working" a full day in years, decades in some cases.

Come back to the watch - you might get a late lunch if your lucky.

The fact they couldn’t even get something as simple as the dates correct does not instill great confidence in me. Idiots.

Hmm, seems like they tried this before. I’d really love to know how much was paid and to whom for that last fiasco that never worked. Had to be a connected somebody who needed a handout that ultimately came from the tax paying public.

I wonder who’s got their hand out this time for a system that will likely fail again. Man, these fuckers never quit raping this City.

Oh my god you mean everyone is going to have to put in a full day? No more tact/desk/Sgt collaborations to ensure early ducks are the norm??? Hey, since the union is always complaining about "lack of manpower" maybe this is the most common-sense solution...do more with what you have! It costs the city zero and will literally amount to tens of thousands of additional man hours per week!! I'm sure it will require supervision to work I.e., supervisory accountability, but this is genius!!! The FOP should be backing this 1000 percent.

If you have 30 people at 3rd watch roll, call and you are #30 in line trying to swipe in at 1400hrs, what now? You don't have to attend roll call? Is the city gonna dock 30 min from your pay? Gimme a break. This is the same dept that still hand carries mail to the areas. That biometric shit failed 5 years ago. And stop with the bitching about people not working full tours. Sorry you never got an early duck. Just enjoy payday and shut the fuck up.

I think that this will be different, yes. But, I know this systems and they all have a supervisor override capability. The supervisor can go into the system anytime they want and alter the records. And, not everyone might be subject to this method.

If you're bored sometime, maybe take a look around one of the badge stations for hidden cameras. If I was implementing that system I'd be eagerly awaiting some complacent fools trying to do such a thing (and I agree with you that some will try). Course, I'm definitely nowhere near connected enough to implement Chicago/CC government infrastructure so whoever did probably conveniently half-assed it...

All this will do is make the beat man sign in and out and "the chosen" will continue working their 4 hours
By now there have been 4 or 5 ways to beat the new time keeping system already

Not that easy, the bigger question who will be idiotic enough to try this? Don't think with the amped up iad, fergies crew, copa, and the waiting to punch on a copper 24/7 dishonest media are not salivating waiting for a copper to get caught doing this! not only will you and whoever the moron is that you did this for be fired oh no, the hard part will be the prosecution!

So the old dirty harry line definitely applies "do you feel luck punk?"

If this works (and I don't think it will) for all those thinking they are going to outsmart the system , forget about it. It is theft and they will surely make an example and hang someone out to dry to prove it. But I see no way this is practical given the realities of how a big city police force works with court, shifting hours, overtime, etc

10/19/2017 12:07:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

They did try it before-- but never put a review in place to address all the ten plus hour days people were putting in that were never compensated ---because keeping whatever crappy thankless job you were doing meant not dropping a slip when you did OT...and yes, I was fortunate enough to escape back to patrol to a decent district via management before losing my sanity.

At Curie HS (CPS), a student’s ID swipe card contains his ID # and the numeral one. A re-issued card has the numeral two instead. The old number no longer registers his presence.

Who's in charge of the CATA Unit and will they be available 24/7?

Do CATA Reward points expire?

Swiping for others is a REAL bad idea.

About 8 or 10 years ago a bunch tried that at the Filtration Plant. One guy with maybe 8 IDs.

What caught them was all swiped in within line minute. But only 1 car swiped into the parking lot.

Don't do it. You will be fired, charged and lose you pension.

I think it's ridiculous that people here continue to insist swiping in/out wont happen. Why, because it didn't work in the past? This is a new era of everyone shouting for police accountability and reform in ALL aspects, including the hours worked during a tour of duty. Perhaps it's not front and center, but city hall recognizes that not everyone in this city abides by the rules. Look at the 2018 Chicago budget, it specifically mentions automated timekeeping (including swiping).

All Streets and Sanitation employees swipe in and out everyday. After your card is swiped or your card number is entered you are required to place your hand on the swipe clock and have it scanned. Your card -your hand only. So, your buddy can not swipe in or out for you. Also....no swiping at another clock that is not authorized, firehouse by your house, library, etc. Every clock has its own number and can be checked to see if you are swiping out at the right location. If you “forget” your card or don’t swipe your time will have to be corrected on the computer. A edit form has to be filled out and authorized. Start keeping track of your overtime, if you forget to swipe in...your swipe out will show as a swipe in and your next swipe after that will show as a swipe out resulting in a messed up payday. All overtime has to be entered manually into the system with a corresponding code explains why overtime was necessary.
