1. An exempt can put somebody in for meritorious from another unit of assignment as long as they had worked for them in the past
2. Stop claiming "he/she was never the police"! Nobody is the police anymore - it does not matter how many arrests u have. We are all simply well paid to attempt to contain the savagery.
3. Use your personality and connections to get meritorious or your intelligence to remember general orders and score well enough to pass the exam. None of it matters.
The bottom line - due the minimum but do it well - make the most u can from the city - and go home to your loved ones and quit the hating.
Meritorious/ hard worker/ more arrests/ more part 1's / I know the general orders / --- get over it - it DOES NOT MATTER!!

You see. That's where you're wrong. First off a merit hack who was a do nothing will attempt to go onto a watch and all of a sudden they try to throw their weight around like they have been a worker their whole career and know how to stop crime. They then make off the wall strategies and insane demands that just can't be done or are flat out dumb or dangerous. They feel that because they are merit they have to prove something and most of the time it doesn't work or make sense. They go into roll calls and demand stops, ISRs and arrests. They punish the troops because of shootings and want boxes and deny time because they can't believe their strategy is not good so it must be the troops. So then they kill morale even more. But when you get a guy who has been there and done it he gets it that the climate has changed. Those types of guys know the insane stuff we use to do and got away with and what won't fly these days. Those are the types of guys/girls who know that you aren't going to stop the murders and shootings but still know how to play the game to keep the bosses happy without putting your people out in a bad spot by pressuring them to do stupid stuff. Those are the people you want. Not the do nothings who have never been the police. In this day and age you WANT the people who have been there and done it... they have nothing to prove and already know how to be the police. You get a merit inside hack who gets a white shirt and all of a sudden wants to play commando on the street. No thanks. It just proves that you too know nothing about this job but what is clear is that you would make a PERFECT merit boss if you already aren't one...

Hahaha. Are these fools going to be approving ISRs and TRRs? Here come more lawsuits from folks who get their “rights violated” simply because the reports aren’t accurately documented. I’m all for the P.O. being responsible for writing good/ solid paper but we still need qualified supervisors to ensure everything is appropriately documented. Some officers aren’t the best at writing and do forget critical information or the report is not complete due to their lack of experience. The reports I read are horrendous, 1/2 should be kicked back.

Maybe they were on furlough or rdo and their districts misinformed them. Maybe not. But there are plausible explanations to that scenario. The Dept does not individually notify each person. Maybe if HR emailed each member directly with the notice to report and instructions, you would have a valid argument to your pettiness. This is what happens when you are forced to stop on a dime and make life adjustments on the fly when you have essentially 60 hrs notice of a life changing event, albeit a good change. I think the unions should negotiate that the Dept give anywhere from 2-4 weeks official posted notice of a class, not a vague email from the Supt, especially when FOP and PBPA don’t have an exact grasp on where the list is at. This allows for the Dept to fill slots in a timely and considerate fashion when people turn it down, and allows for the affected member to make adjustments in their personal lives. God forbid the Dept cares about the lives of the members.

You know the system is flawed when you have the Maid of Honor in the Superintendent's wedding and phony best friend to his wife Yolanda N get merit promoted out of the 7th District with no merit behind her. House mouse, no common sense and no intelligence plagues her. Add in her husband who is currently a Sergeant in the 5th District, Sgt. W who got promoted meritoriously last Sergeants class who can't even get the pension because he is too old. Same thing, promoted by merit by the same Commander. Then look at his best friend Dwayne B who was always a lazy police officer who no one would work with when we worked in 006 Tact, who was his college roommate and best friend who just got promoted to Deputy Chief and Gloria H who went to school with the Superintendent because she tells everyone that will listen since she can't justify her career with anything else, who was promoted to Commander of 003 and already pissed off all of the Sergeants and Lieutenants. All of her front office staff asked to leave already. She is a Trahanas in the making. December 15th cant get here quick enough. I won't miss this circus.

Oh yeah, a copper shooting into a car that was not trying to run him or anyone else over but actually trying to turn around to get away...
A copper that used the same excuse this shooting as his previous shooting, “I was shooting to save the kid that was hanging out the window”...
Any attempt to defend this guy shows exactly why this department has so much negative feelings towards the 95% of good honest coppers going out and doing the right thing every night. The bad thing is that my union dues went to defending this guy. There are good coppers that go out and make an honest mistake an need to be defended. This guy decided “fuck that, these shitheads ain’t getting away”. This is not a mistake, this is a loose cannon that needed to be let go after his first couple of incidents. It sucks for his family but he should be lucky he only got 5.

An adult who was just promoted should be able to find out where he or she is to report for in training. Seems all the others did. And if they reported on time how did they find out what time. I’ll tell you. It was in the same notice as the location of DeVry. What about the date. They seemed to find that out otherwise why would they even report to the academy on Monday. Quit making excuses for these goofs. In a few weeks these same three will be criticizing the troops for being late or missing court
When you came on the CPD you should have been smart enough to figure you would have to make adjustments, different shifts, different days off, working holidays and no summer fulls for a few years
Or did tou think the COD was there to work around yours and every other officers wants and needs
Maybe every Jan 1 each officer can tell the COD what watch, hours, days off and holidays each officer wants to work and they could make the schedules up to accommodate each officers wants

I am assuming that Dart has complete authority of whom he lays off as long as he stays within union contracts. But, he does not have to lay off people not in the union. It is believed by many in the know that there are many people holding positions within county government that are not doing any useful work and are over paid, all because they are connected. Maybe they were on furlough or rdo and their districts misinformed them. Maybe not. But there are plausible explanations to that scenario. The Dept does not individually notify each person. Maybe if HR emailed each member directly with the notice to report and instructions, you would have a valid argument to your pettiness. This is what happens when you are forced to stop on a dime and make life adjustments on the fly when you have essentially 60 hrs notice of a life changing event, albeit a good change. I think the unions should negotiate that the Dept give anywhere from 2-4 weeks official posted notice of a class, not a vague email from the Supt, especially when FOP and PBPA don’t have an exact grasp on where the list is at. This allows for the Dept to fill slots in a timely and considerate fashion when people turn it down, and allows for the affected member to make adjustments in their personal lives. God forbid the Dept cares about the lives of the members.

Do all of you that post all this crap taking about merit and cheaters not see the irony? Being police officers for CPD we are immediately judged by the media and the public, most of the time without cause and justification. We are all lumped together as bad seeds and it's killing morale. Everyone posting about these merit promotions and saying these people cheated are doing the same thing, and you are killing morale. Just because someone got merit doesn't mean they were a house mouse or don't deserve it. I know lots of people that got merit because they worked hard and got noticed, got on to teams and units, and got promoted because of their work ethic. Just the same as people who do good on test must be a cheater because we don't think they are bright. We have to stop judging each other and grouping everyone together, this is what is killing the dept. I know there are family members that get promoted and people cheated on the test, and they shouldn't get promoted, but it happens. Just like coppers unjustly shoot people or use excessive force or steal stuff and shake down drug dealers. But as we all know not every copper, or not even the majority of coppers are like that. Same here. Lots of coppers get meritoriously promoted that is well deserved, and lots of coppers do well on test. But we have to stop grouping the bad eggs in with them, just like the media does to us. We all know that ultimately it don't matter how you get promoted, it's what you do with that promotion and what kind of supervisor you become that matters. So how about instead of taking trash from the jump and judging everyone immediately we say congrats, now make it count. Maybe then we will get some supervisors that we are glad to work for. Let's stop this ridiculousness and stop adding to the destruction of morale and be supportive of one another, like it should be. After all, we are all on the same side.
Those of us with real time and SENSE just finish your time! None of us should lose our pension to make “the man” get promoted or look lood at Comstat!

You know the system is flawed when you have the Maid of Honor in the Superintendent's wedding and phony best friend to his wife Yolanda N get merit promoted out of the 7th District with no merit behind her. House mouse, no common sense and no intelligence plagues her. Add in her husband who is currently a Sergeant in the 5th District, Sgt. W who got promoted meritoriously last Sergeants class who can't even get the pension because he is too old. Same thing, promoted by merit by the same Commander. Then look at his best friend Dwayne B who was always a lazy police officer who no one would work with when we worked in 006 Tact, who was his college roommate and best friend who just got promoted to Deputy Chief and Gloria H who went to school with the Superintendent because she tells everyone that will listen since she can't justify her career with anything else, who was promoted to Commander of 003 and already pissed off all of the Sergeants and Lieutenants. All of her front office staff asked to leave already. She is a Trahanas in the making. December 15th cant get here quick enough. I won't miss this circus.
This is concerning. I guess the answers are still floating around. YN is definitely a hack, she can’t justify her career enough to sit before a merit board. Her only luck was to get the answers. The new front office is a piece of work. I can’t to see the number of officers who wants to bid out.
Personally I think no one should be a Sgt with less than 15yrs on and no more than a year in an inside spot. You need Sgt's who have seen just about everything and done just about everything. Nothing worse than being around a Sgt who has never done the job. Also I'm a pay your dues believer. My clout was gone in 1935 when my great grandfather retired so no phone call for me. Never minded a guy getting merit with 15-20 yrs in patrol. What always burned my ass was the laziest coppers in the district being put in or some kid with 6 yrs. How about no merit with less than 15yrs on or better yet get rid of it.
That’s exactly what they are going to do when an officer calls for a Sgt. These sergeants are going to go to a different location.
So what if 24 is getting 3 man cars. The rest of us in this city have been working 3 man cars since we started. Its nothing new and its policy. Stop crying and go annoy another partner besides your current one.your most likely a goof any way.

Excellent point. I’m not making an excuse for being dumb, but there is a very plausible reason for this. If these three got a phone call from their front offices, the details could have been lost.

What’s to grieve. Where in our contract does it say you have a right to work a certain car? The CPD can change you me car everyday and your starting time by 2 hours. Not saying it’s right, but it’s in the contract

Well since over 4000 took the test and they're promote around 400-450 off this test....i guess MOST PPL didn't do well and that # includes YOU dummy.
