Even CSA Goes Unpunished
- A Cook County judge sentenced two teenage boys Wednesday to five years of probation and ordered them to register as sex offenders for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl broadcast live on Facebook last March.
Judge Patricia Mendoza, assigned to the juvenile division, had signaled she would impose the probation sentences when the two pleaded guilty in November to a single count of child pornography.
And the justification?
- Prosecutors had sought sentences for both boys, now each 15, in prison facilities for juveniles.
In court Wednesday, the judge noted the serious nature of the crime and its impact on the victim but said a potential lifetime as registered sex offenders would have more repercussions for the teens than spending several more months in confinement.
“It’s time for you gentlemen to start adjusting to your new life,” Mendoza told them.
Really? A "potential" for being inconvenienced one day a year to register as measured against the very real damaged and broadcast humiliation they inflicted on a 15-year-old is a "repercussion"? And she called them "gentlemen."

Is this distinguished jurist a "full" judge or an ASSociate judge? Unfortunately, we can only vote NO on full judges when they face retention. Remember, the efforts of the FOP Auxiliary led to the demise of Judge lawrence passarella about 20 years ago. That's the only thing these judicial jerk offs will fear.

They should have cameras in juvy court here. You can present the most solid cases.... only to see the bad guy get a second, third, fourth chance to screw up. I have not been to juvy court in awhile. But, I doubt the winds of change have touched that institution.

Justice does matter and victims aren't getting it! Protecting yourself and your family is more honorable than being victimized by criminals, courts, and judges!

Good point and I remember the case well, but one judge in 20 years isn’t really going to put fear into them and that was 20 years ago. Voters have changed. But it’s a start

I never went to law school, but how about jail time and registering as a sex offender?
Odds are that these scholars, will be a chalk outline in less than five years.
And what about the victim? What will she have to deal with for the rest of her life?
There is no justice for the Victim in the Crook County Courts.
