fuck!
Thanks to Rahm, McCarthy, Special Ed, Kim Fox, the ACLU, and every other democratic politician piece of shit in this city we’ve officially lost control of the streets. The criminals own this shit now and it’s only going to get worse. Citizens, start arming yourselves and quick.
Prayers with the officer and his family.
If it's true we have lost a prince, a gentleman and a wonderful human being. I pray for the family. Mother Mary, St. Michael, please save him.
Rahm’s Chicago at it’s best. He agrees whole heartedly with Peckerwinkle, Dart, and Foxx, with emptying the jail and not prosecuting “community” members.
The “high ranking” PO shot must be a good guy because he got involved, which 99% of the Exempts wouldn’t even consider doing.
Best wishes for him/her.
Godspeed. I thoughts and prayers for his family. This is all the politicians faults, the criminal justice system, and Eddie Johnson.
Commander of 018 shot and killed. RIP.
Prayers
RIP.
Godspeed.
Its a CMDR
RIP fellow brother in blue. You will never be forgotten. We will hold the thin blue line for you.
God bless him and his family.

Sympathy and prayers to his family and department from CFD EMS
Shit. I'm so sorry. Saint Sebastian pray for us.
Terrible tragedy a great boss and a great person
Fucking awful. Possible off-duty commander (no specifics on unit/district of assignment) killed while assisting tact team pursuing robbery offender. My prayers go out to his family. Tragic as hell. Be safe all
He was my former boss in 018 and he was the most interactive commander I ever knew. He will be sorely missed. Why the shitbird who did this is still breathing is a mystery. Well, maybe it isn't it but damn this hits hard.
How much bet it's a repeat offender that a dart or Foxx released. Or one Dart or Bill Cunningham Rocket Docket early Parolees.
Without words
Heard its the commander from the 18th district.
My prayers go out to the officer and the officer’s family. God be with you. Some of us do appreciate all you do. As strong as I try to be, I could never do you job. May God bless Chicago’s Finest, and may St. Michael always protect you.
What a shame the politics of pandering to the criminals in this city and county created such a shithole Godspeed commander.
RIP Commander
I just want to f'in throw up. I am so sorry for the family. I hate this f'in shithole and policies against our police and citizens. Until these social justice warriors get a bullet through their head they will continue justifying the actions of these thugs.
I have no idea how to say. I am so sorry! My prayers to the family, the survivors and fellow officers. RIP
RIP brother, we got it from here.
God Speed to you Paul, thoughts and prays for your family and countless brothers ans sisters in the department.
No words....this is beyond sad. Sending positive thoughts and prayers to the family and co-workers.
God Speed Boss. Great Man prayers and condolences to his family
And we no longer have the death penalty - why?!
R.I.P Sir
RIP Boss, your watch is over. We'll take it from here.
RIP Commander Paul Bauer. Although I never met you, I can say the citizens of Chicago owe you and your family a debt of gratitude. You paid the ultimate price to protect the citizens of the City of Chicago. Thank you for your service. You will be missed by all.
Great Man!!! Rest In Peace Commander Bauer
-18th Distritct RBT
Just watched channel 7 news made the officer the commander rest in peace, they also said this commander was frustrated because of all the offenders being put back on the streets I am so angry right now crying right now knowing that the mayor states attorney attorney general the judges crazy Tony insane Tommy and the rest of the Panderers are guilty of this all the blood the murder now one of our brothers and blue life sensuously taken by a criminal who should've been in prison and not been left out to cause more murder and mayhem Democrats must go this My stop it My stop now! God bless the police God bless this police officers family!
So sorry for your loss of your Commander. The loss of any officer is heartbreaking, and my thoughts and prayers go out to your entire department and his family.
Rip commander, God speed
Rest in Peace Commander.
And still no word from that guy that's calls himself the mayor. We need to turn our backs to that midget in the coming weeks. God forbid he tries to come to roll calls to boost morale. Piece of shit!!!!!
RIP Commander.
RIP CMDR Bauer....a fine man and amazing leader....Godspeed sir. AND HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!
When is this worthless mayor, and useless justice system going to acknowledge the problem in this city????
A robbery isn’t just a “property crime”!
At what point can we talk about the problem, and do what needs to be done to eradicate the problem?
Enough of the fucking games and political correctness. Let’s end these robberies and carjackings- ESPECIALLY downtown, where the PRODUCTIVE members do things like WORK and SHOP.
May God be with a good policeman and great human being as he makes is afterlife journey.
My heart and thoughts go out to his family and loved ones....
RIP
Not a cop.
Very sad. His death has already been reported to ODMP.COM.
RIP Commander.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.
Rip to the commander.... just trying to help officers in need. I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting him but that’s a leader right there. To bad more than half of the others wouldn’t dare join that chase. Rest In Peace hero.
RIP, boss. God bless
Met him on a detail once, was so pleased to be treated nicely by a boss. Got the feeling he was truly a gentleman and nice guy.
RIP Commander!
Prayers for you and your family my brother in blue!
Rest in peace Paul. Your mission here is over. You will be missed by everyone.
A sad sad day for this fucked up shithole city.
RIP
RIP commander
RIP PRB.
Rest in Peace Hero.
Tragic Irony that this occurred in the center of power of Illinois, Cook County and City of Chicago, whose politicians allow these criminals to thrive, while vilifying the police. God Bless You, Paul. You were a great cop and a better person.
Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and fellow officers. Will pray for their strength. Thank you Commander.
Just a civilian who now lives out of state....thoughts and prayers to the entire CPD. Sad day.
RIP Commander. Prayers to his family and the CPD. 😢💙
Rest in Peace Commander Bauer.
If the shithead that did this is a parolee, multiple offender, early release, etc. etc. type, and I'll bet he is, high holy hell had better be raised towards Foxx, Dart, Evans, Emanuel, Prickwinkle and their pro-crime anti-justice policies and views.
Chicago...what...the...fuck.
Watched both Channel 7 and 9 back and forth before 4PM. Do they have the suspect- or not??
Mixed messages as to whether or not they have the person in custody.
Bad day and totally avoidable. Waiting for more facts. Right now some things don't add up?? Eye witness said they had someone in custody and the person was wearing a vest (like a Police Vest) then, they have no one in custody? Which is it?
Or was it an officer who also got shot and they helped him take his vest off?
Like I said, things don't add up. Waiting for ALL the facts. Hopefully, they do have the person in custody.
Total sympathies to family. Time to vote out ALL the politicians. Chicago is NOT safe.
Tragic Irony that this occurred in the center of power of Illinois, Cook County and City of Chicago, whose politicians allow these criminals to thrive, while vilifying the police. God Bless You, Paul. You were a great cop and a better person.
How sad. Rip commander. Be safe everyone. Ya never know...commander hears flash message etc? Fuck
This is so very sad.
I am so upset, as the Democrat Party and ACLU have blood on their hands.
RIP Commander, a great leader and man, terrible loss 😢
Enough is Enough,. We need to vote these crooked politicians out of office. Kim Foxx, Rahm and Tom Dart have no business being the chief law-forcement officers of this city. They are releasing criminals who prey on the public and now officers. We need to stop this madness.
When I met Commander Bauer last year, I was amazed at how friendly and nice he was. He'll be missed.
May God grant him eternal peace and have mercy on his soul. The thin blue line indeed
I hope they caught this asshole!
What a great picture. Looked like a very special person. RIP. https://home.chicagopolice.org/community/districts/18th-district-near-north/
I'm sick. Just sick to my stomach. I am so sorry for cpds loss.
Prayers for his wife and daughter. God bless the Chicago Police Department!
God Bless Cmdr Bauer and please say prayers for his family. A working boss is a rarity and such a tragic ending to a great cop's career.
May God Welcome you into Heaven and console your grieving family!!!
Rest in Eternal Peace Brother!!!
God bless our very brave Commander, prayers to the family
CPD, ignore the negative media -- most of this city supports your selfless pursuit of safer streets. Thanks for what you do every single day.
Sorry for your loss.

Wow, a commander still taking on the bad guys. Respect. RIP.
Absolutely awful. Such a sad day for our department.

Blessed are the Peacemakers For they are the children of God. Rest in Peace Commander Bauer.

A Police Officer's Prayer
Oh Lord, while I'm on my beat
May I know that you're with me,
And protect me as I go to guard
Other's lives and property.
Help me ignore those who scorn
And show me no respect,
But be mindful of all citizens
I've sworn to protect.
Be with my fellow officers
And guard their safety too.
May I always put duty first
In the work that I must do.
May I not disgrace the uniform
But bring pride to the badge I wear.
That I'd be a good policeman, Lord
Would be my only prayer.
Amen
Our deepest sympathies to the Commander's family and to his brothers & sisters in blue, with all the respect in the universe. Thank you for keeping our city safe.
My sincere condolences to Cmdr Bauer's family and all CPD.
So hard to watch this happen through the news, I sit here wondering why. Time to retake our city no matter what.
A Commander still chasing bad guys, helping out while off duty... sounds like the city lost one of the good ones.
God speed, Commander. God bless you all.
Rest in Peace Commander Bauer
Our deepest sympathies to his family and the department. We all mourn with you. ~CFD EMS
My Condolences to Commander Bauer's Family and to his brothers and sisters in Blue. This is tragic. It is a loss when anyone is killed senselessly, but when it is a police officer is killed it is devastating to the entire city. Rest in Peace Sir, you will not be forgotten.
A citizen who cares.
God bless Commander Bauer and his family. Tragic, tragic loss
Citizen sending condolonces. Thank you for selfless service.
Truly sad.

I can say without doubt that this man was a good man taken too early.
Take is slow brother.
My deepest condolences to his family.
I feel like crap.
Let us never forget how fast this could be happening to any one of us.
Stay Strong
God Speed Sir.
Commander Bauer was feerless and a true leader. This is a devistating loss.
I would hope that brothers and sisters on the job use this site for some positive comments for Cmdr. Paul Bauer on behalf of his grieving family and friends. Say a prayer in your own way for one of Chicago’s Finest.
Rest In Peace Paul, it was an honor to call you a friend and Brother.
Pass a Federal Law that makes killing any first responders an automatic death sentence
He is looking down on us .. RIP..........
RIP COMMANDER
God speed, sir. Thank you for your service. May God hold your family close during this horrible time. Rest in Peace.
Rest in Peace Commander, this is the city we now have.
Nice guy, very sad news.

Thank you for your kind words.
Paul was a great guy and will be sorely, sorely missed.
What an absolute tragedy.
My condolences to Commander Bauer and his family. May he rest in peace. I did not personnaly know Commander Bauer but from what I can tell he was a cops cop.
God Bless you and your family young man.
I ache for this man's family. GOD bless the police, it has been a painful week in many areas through out the country. Thank you to the CFD.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
For the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory are Yours, now and forever. Amen.
Saint Jude. Pray for him.
I have never posted before but I would like to offer my prayers to the Commander's family.
St. Michael, Archangel, escort our Brother to the comforting Arms of the Lord.....
God Save the CPD.....
RIP Commander Bauer.
One news source stated this is the 16th Officer this year (45 days) to be killed in the line of duty across the nation. Guys and girls, be safe. These people have no respect for human life and even less respect for ours.
Watching ch 7 news. Can someone please inform "investigative""reporter Chuck Goudie that there are not 25 police districts in the city and haven't been for years? At least get your facts right when reporting a tragic event
I'm so very sorry for this loss. Blessings to his family and all CPD members.
More tears down my cheeks this evening. RIP Commander Bauer.I pray for you and your Family....
I bet this piece of shit was in parole, double secret probation, or some other bullshit liberal excuse to keep this fuckhead out of jail
God bless Commander Paul Bauer.
I am beyond sorry for this senseless, senseless loss.
But from the Lib-une: “It’s a difficult day for us, but we’ll get through it,” Johnson told reporters..." Isn't that nice? One sentence. Unreal. Sad.
This blood is on many, many hands.
I am Catholic and there is no "Purgatory" for this civil servant. His "Purgatory" was the last few seconds-minutes of his short life. He is with the Lord Almighty.
It sounds like you have lost a true, rare gem of a human being.
Prayers for the family, those he knew-touched: family and those under his command.
Makes me sick.
NOT ILLINOIS. NOT LAW.
Wish all exempt were like him. RIP sir!
If this offender was let out of jail early the FOP better go balls out against the powers that be in this city and county!
Check out Johnson's statement. What a jag off. He for some reason makes a distinction that any loss of a Chicagoans life is tragic. I'm sorry but Paul Bauer's life is more important than a gang banging convicted felon. This dept sucks.
My prayers go out to the family and to our brothers and sisters in the CPD. On behalf of your brothers in the fire service we have your back, and no matter what we will always come get you.
As an ordinary man this just hurts on so many levels it makes me cry. The city or jungle that it as become has lost an apparently great man and Police Officer. May your journey to the Kingdom of Heaven be swift and peaceful.
A very sad day indeed.
Richard
RIP my Brother. We came on the job together, worked together, made Lt together.I feel for your wife and daughter. They will NOT be forgotten by us. Take a well deserved rest and then look down upon us and guide us.
Amen
RIP Commander. May God help his family, friends and his brothers in blue through this. Truly devastating.
My deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Commander Paul Bauer. Heartbroken for his family and what they are going through. Such a senseless tragedy. Prayers to St. Michael for his soul, may he rest in eternal peace with our Lord Jesus Christ. God Bless all who serve on the Chicago Police Department.
God bless Paul and his family. But please also take care of each other. Unless you are military or police and have had a brother or sister die in the line of duty, it is hard to explain the emotions. Obviously a family member or dear friend dying is terrible and painful, but the emotions that come with line of duty brings so many other feelings. Take care of each other, it is what Paul would want.
RIP Commander
Any time CPD loses an officer, it is tragic. Dark day in the city when a man so liked and respected makes the ultimate sacrifice. Wishing his family the utmost strength in this painful hour.
-Son of a retired CPD Sergeant.
This isn’t good bye Paul. You looked after us on the street and you will continue to look after us from above. This isn’t good bye
My heart breaks for the family of this good man. My family and I are deeply grateful for what CPD does, especially in today’s insane climate. And the sight of those who run this city has gone from disgust to revulsion tonight for both Lakeview Dad and me.
I drove by the 019 station late this afternoon as I went about my day. I saw an officer getting out of a vehicle and looking just so dejected and sad. My first thought was to roll down my window and call out something kind, but I wasn’t sure what to say or if I should even bother him.
Know that you guys and gals ARE appreciated!
Much love, Lakeview Mom
Quinn, which wants our votes for AG did away with the death penalty for killing police officers
Tell Rahm it's a good thing that we have such stiff gun laws on the books here. Those laws will surely prevent the murder of those actually engaged in keeping the peace.
May God have mercy on the Bauer family.
What has this city become?
R.I.P. Officer Bauer. Prayers and condolences to family, friends and CPD.
J.J.
A really great boss that deserved his position. A HUGE loss to the city and the department. RIP Commander
God Bless this wonderful man, a Commander who is actually helping the troops.
A Commander jumping in off duty on an incident like this is probably not the norm, so I expect that Cmdr. Bauer was an exceptional man and cop. I also read that he was out front in complaining about the 'revolving door' in the criminal INjustice system being responsible for many crimes. If the person that did this (apparently a black coat with a fur collar from the only description the news gave, for some reason the race of the offender is not as important as it would be if it was an OIS) is a repeat offender, as he probably is, then CPD and all police in Crook county need to join their voices as one to show how corrupt and damaging the system is. Maybe you can get Cmdr. Bauer's message across in the end and make a little sense from this tragedy. My prayers to his family, both blood and work, I hope they find comfort in the knowledge that he died doing what he was dedicated to. Just an Indiana cop who is tired of reading daily how another officer in Ohio, or Arizona, or Tennessee, has been killed.
Chicago Police can make a dent in the voting in Chicago if we all vote. We need our families and friends to band together with us and vote these politicians OUT OF OFFICE! They have let this city burn the the ground. Crime is OUT OF CONTROL. This savage should have been in prison for his past offenses but wasn’t. These judges suck and don’t care about everyday citizens or police-same with the politicians. God bless the Commander. He gave his life because this piece of shit was still on the street instead of behind bars where he belonged. I didn’t know him but I would thank him for all he did until the end of his life that was gone too soon. He should have been able to finish his career and enjoy retirement with his family but that was stolen from him. I pray that he is with God now and that God watches over his family.
It's way past time for criminals to start living in fear again!
J.J.
Paul was a great police officer, a fair, respected and honest supervisor. A kind, upbeat and soft spoken person. Very sad day for all of us.
God bless you Commander Paul Bauer, I'm so very sorry. Thank you for your service sir. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to you, your family, CPD family and friends.
-20th district resident
God Bless Commander Bauer.
An off duty commander, he did not have to get involved, but he did. I can’t tell you how much pride and respect I feel for this man. Obviously a working policeman to the very end. May god watch over you sir and your family, you are in our prayers.
A sad day for my CPD brothers and sisters RIP Sir
I was getting dressed in the parking lot today and saw commander Bauer today 20 minutes before he was assassinated by this scum of a human that all of these politicians are so worried about. What about commander bauer's rights? How and where does his family go from here? How will they ever begin to heal. Let us all say a prayer for him and family regardless of your beliefs. He always knew me by my first name and always asked how I and my family were doing. No one will ever come close to replacing this man. 31 years on the job and still left his police vehicle and gave chase. What a hero! Also, this happened across the street from city hall, isn't it supposed to be safe there. We need more police! Stop and frisk! Drivers for commanders protection. Elected officials start doing your jobs, a police executive officer has just been slain on your doorsteps!
Great boss. He was a true prince. I was fortunate to have met him in S.O.S as a Sgt and he was always willing to help us out. You will be missed and I hope never forgotten. RIP.
Mathew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.
R.I.P. Boss! I have never worked for you, but I have almost as much time as you do and I have never heard a bad word spoken of you only good things. And on this job that says a lot. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.
Prayer for Police Officers
- Anonymous
Almighty God we pray to you
In heaven up above
Watch over our dear police officers
And protect them with your love.
Please guide them as they keep us
safe both day and night
And hold them firmly in your care
should danger come their way.
Give them true strength and courage
As they serve til duty's end
And one more thing to ask dear Lord
Protect their family and their friends.
John 15:13 greater love hath no man than this, than a man lay down his life for his friends.
This hero made the ultimate sacrifice today, protecting and defending others.
CPD just a citizen here to say how grateful so many are for you. The silent majority stands with you. The hearts of so many of us grieve over each report of a fallen officer. Perilous times have come,
Thank you for risking your lives every day and know you are in the prayers of many. God Bless you all.
Also, thank SCC and your team for giving us a voice.
As the wife of a retired police officer and mom of a new recruit, I offer my sincere condolences to the Bauer family. My heart goes on to you and to the fine men and women in Blue in this dangerous crime-ridden city.
Not to take away from my prayers and thoughts, but it’s time we all band together and vote out these liberals who are destroying our city, county and state! May God shine thru these dark days and transform our current situation where the criminals are treated better than the citizens and our wonderful protectors, the police! God bless those who truly wear the badge with honor. Be safe CPD!
Worked with Paul in SOS, always had a smile on his face, as he climbed the ladder, he never changed. Always a gentleman. REAT IN Peace.
RIP
Felon wearing body armor ?!

I will never have the words to show my respect for you amazing men and women in blue. From the rural country sheriff, to all of you working in Chicago, the things that you all deal with, I’m in awe of each and every one of you. Get home safe, all of you.God Bless you all. I know there’s a special place in heaven for Commander Bauer.
RIP, everyone be safe out there.
95.5 just saluted our fallen commander. Thank you BIG 95.5. You are a class act of a radio station.
Rest In Peace, Commander Bauer. And may Saint Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of law-enforcement, wait for
you at the gates of heaven and escort you to our Almighty God and sit you at the right hand of our Father. Judge Gloria Chevere,Retired.
The Chicago Tribune's headline: Fatal Police Shooting.
Just cannot call it as it truly is.
Wonder how Dallas newspapers reported the tragedy in July 2016?
A stand-up guy getting involved with the troops. A rarity these days. End of Watch, Sir. God bless you and watch over your family.
There are many out there that always want to be under the blanket of security that we provide yet question the methods with which we provide it. Well it's so sad, that today you witnessed the sacrifice that we make to provide you that security.God bless you commander rest in peace.
I knew and worked with Paul. We were good friends. Talked to him on Sunday about his retirement plans. It doesn't surprise me that as a commander, he would respond to a call of another policeman. There were only 5 or 6 commanders who would actually do that, and he was one of them. It's time for the citizens of Chicago to wake up and get rid of these pandering, democrats who NEVER call out the criminals for who they are. Potential voters! God forbid that they actually call them out for their homicide rate, sexual assault rate, car-jacking rate, etc, etc, etc.......
I'm so very sorry. I pray for us all to be saved from the madness every single day.
RIP Cmdr. - God Bless you, your family, and the CPD for your sacrifice and heroism.
Scc, article in Trib where this brave Commander blasted Foxx and Dart emptying of the jail a few months back. Now it was revealed he was killed by a four time felon. We will remember him for his sacrifice and bravery.
May the LORD comfort Commander Paul Bauer family during these difficult times. RIP COMMANDER PAUL BAUER.
RIP Sir. Prayers to his family at home and his family at the CPD. From what i've heard the city lost a true Policeman's Boss, which is almost impossible to find anymore. As much as we say we are not "policing" anymore or we are remaining "fetal", its not true. We may say it, but when shit happens in front of us, we can not help it but to get involved. We do it cause its the right thing to do, because we have a genuine want to help people and we do it without fear of losing our jobs or in this case our lives. Today the good citizens of Chicago and Law Enforcement across the country weep with our brothers at the CPD. Commander you are a hero. May God give your family the courage and strength to bear this enormous loss.
RIP COMMANDER
May God be with him and his family
Thank you CPD for all that you do to protect us each and every day
-not a cop
Paul was a true cop and friend He will be missed
Prayers and thoughts for CPD and for his family

Here's how Westerville, Ohio folks turned out for the procession to the funeral home of two officers killed last weekend. Not the funeral itself......just transporting them to the home.
Maybe Chicago can respond in kind for the pointless loss of a good man.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e90HMrtK8U8
The loss of any Officer is a tragedy.
But I think it is so much worse when it is an off-duty officer like Cmdr. Bauer.
Although, with the REAL police, police like Cmdr. Bauer, there is no such thing as off-duty.
My prayers go out to the Commader’s Family & Friends.
R.I.P Commander.

RIP Sir; may your family find comfort in the LORD.
Rest in peace commander we'll take it from here.
Great boss and a real gentleman. RIP Paulie Bauer. So many love you.
Wife and I didn't have dinner. Not hungry. Just sat in silence thinking about the Bauer Family.
Any of us could be that family, at any time. Never met Commander Bauer. But I know the type. The type that is always ready to go after the bad guy, on or off duty. A cop's cop.
Praying for you and your family, sir. And for CPD. Always admired your service.
Retired ISP.
Godspeed to Cmdr. Bauer and condolences to the family from - IDOC Parole.
A sad day indeed.
RIP Commander. Thank you all for what you do. -A Chicago citizen
So very sorry, guys and girls.
Prayers to the CPD and to the Bauer family. RIP Hero...
God’s speed my friend
Rest In Peace
POS 4X convicted Felon... just keep releasing the scum into society.
Disheartened and hardened by this tragic news.
Prayers to Officer Bauer's family and police family.
Disgusted the murderer is still alive.
I agree with a previous poster, there should be a federal law of the death penalty for murderers of any first responder.
Thank you CPD for trying to keep us safe.
But not to the coward judges and politicians who want to make it easy for murderers to walk the street of this once great city.
Maybe todays loss will possibly be the catalyst for sticter longer mandatory sentences that cannot be mangled by weak judges and bleeding heart district attorneys.
May God Bless all of the Righteous.
Rest In Peace Commander.
I met the man a few times while working in 018 as a PEA when we tasked to assist the district in hammering an area after a shooting around Marshall Field Garden a few years ago when I was working out of the Central Unit for Finance.
Had a genuine feel (to me) that he was a man that cared about making the community better for everyone that was an Honest citizen.
He will be missed by a large number of those that live in 018. As well as those of us that Used to live in 018.
Godspeed Sir,
Finance Bike Guy.
