Cradle to Grave
- Despite an order last year by Cook County’s chief judge to make it easier for those held at city police stations to talk to an attorney, less than 2 percent of arrestees actually saw one in 2017.
That’s according to First Defense Legal Aid, a volunteer lawyer group that’s planning what they’re calling a first-of-its-kind event this weekend.
Lawyers will be stationed at all of the city’s 22 police districts Saturday, offering free legal services to arrestees.
So since criminals are too dumb to read, know and exercise their Rights, these lawyers will be infesting every station this weekend. And don't imagine for a minute that they'll be minding their own business until called upon to provide legal counsel.

Let them sit with the piss bums in the lobby.
Be careful. Are these lawyers only allowed to talk about the charges at hand? Or, will they be coercing offenders into beefs against the police? Why else would they be doing it?
Will the parasites be in the lobby of the FBI building on Roosevelt . And Which watch commander is going to drive the bus over a copper ?
My brothers and sisters in blue make arrests only on signed complaints and in front of civilian witnesses recorded on body cameras !
Make no mistakes on the the report take your time and for the sake of your pension and freedom do not ingage in any proactive policing!
Just a old guy who made it out of the jungle by luck and to you new sgts take of the men and women put into your charge because they only have you to look to for guidance because City hall and the command staff have sold you out !
Put them in the lockup so they can see their clients in their natural state.
These lawyers can suck my dick .
I haven't arrested anyone without signed complaints in years. Now every interaction is video/audio recorded... good luck, asshole.
The police you wanted.
.
Cpd needs its own lawyers, doctors and camera crew to ride along to each assignment. If not, pay us all of their salaries combine.
Is that like the ASA’s infesting the Areas on a continual basis?
Most arrestees have absolutely no need for legal counsel at the time of their arrest, which is why they don't have a lawyer show up. These fools will be disrupting everything at the stations because they think they know what criminals need better than the criminals themselves.
Will Community Policing Officers be putting out a nice buffet in the Community room for the attorneys and arrestees? Maybe the attorneys could be called out to the scene before the arrest is even made. They could act like referees in a game making on the fly decisions. Lordly, Lordly did you ever think it would ever come to this. Who the hell is running this police department?
don't lock anyone up over the weekend!
Well the order reads you will let a prisoner see “their” attorney. Not some fucking ambulance chaser sitting in the lobby so fuck them. They can sit until they can provide their “clients” name
It would be a good idea this weekend to bring that IPad and sit back and watch a few movies while the attorneys sit in an empty station. Be wise and don't be proactive, you may just save your career.
Are they paying into rahms “slush fund” to get re-elected? Why not have them “mobile” they can ride with the dishonest fake Chicago media, that way when they so up on scenes they can quickly adjudicate the thug or illegal, and the young coppers with skulls full of mush, would let them go and save future pain via lawsuits and loss of job!
Must be a whole lot of lawyers looking for work these days. Like the Sun Times that profession falling on hard times. Add police station stalking to ambulance chasing to the curriculum of the Chicago law schools. So proud to be an ex Chicagoan.
Maybe the lawyers are getting creative to bring in a paycheck since arrests are way down. Kind of like ambulance chasing. Here's my card if you'd like to retain my services at court.
What the hell do they need attorneys for since none ever wind up in jail. Must be shooting for the elusive 100% release rate. The ASA won't file charges, the judges won't assign bail and then we have the wonderful electronic monitoring. What a great system, come to Chicago to commit your crimes we won't stop you and in the unlikely event you get caught you will be released. Chicago Values social justice above all else. By the way who is paying for these lawyers? You are chump, if your a Chicago taxpayer. First hey rob or assault you then you have to pay to get them off, great system. But wait it will be better after next election when the next crop of Machine Democrats get their chance at the trough.

The look on his face is priceless. "Ooooh Shit, I'm not in Crook County" . . . This is gonna hurt
10 time looser, 10 year sentence. Good riddance
Make them wait in the Corner with the Stinky Ass homeless people. No favors for these Dickheads....
Guess they’ll have to convert the CAPS office into a law office
Hey, at least we’ll have those officers back on the watch to help with the backlog.
Don't arrest anyone and park the freebie lawyer in the neighborhood relations office but hide the phones first.
these socialist clowns do not work for free.
did somebody find grant money for these
humanitarian ACLU types?
Will they be kept on leashes until they are requested? Who will take them outside for potty breaks? Have water bowls been provided?
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
1 day? How many hours
do you thinks these great lawyers will work 8 hours.
Why not cut the sheriff budget and KIMMY FOXX states attorneys budget and stick the public defenders in stations!
Lets save all the ass hats. Who cares...
Give the lawyers their own little windowless cubicle with wifi access to Pronhub.
That will distract them.
Just keep the lawyers out in the lobby with the homeless. Of course the stench between the two groups will qualify as a bio hazard and might get the stations shut down due to health concerns.
I heard attorney Algonquin J. Calhoun (Esquire) has already volunteered to handle the FBI building on Roosevelt Rd.

There is no lobby in that Federal building. You have to go to security, lock all of your electronics in a locker and state your business. The clerk is behind a bullet resistant wall and glass. Not as open as police stations in this town. The Feds are smarter that way.
This group of lock-up lawyers add new meaning to the term, bar association.
It fits right in though with the ambulance chaser and slip n' fall specialty categories of these legal eagles.
I heard when you give a lawyer Viagra...they get taller.
Also, that's why they wear neckties...to keep the foreskin from crawling up their chins.
I'll be here all week folks, don't forget to tip your waitress.
I recommend the veal.
Stay safe my brothers and sisters.
So when I'm working as the Desk Crew and COPA is calling and wanting to speak with the DSS, I can tell them that the DSS to busy right now dealing with Arrestee Attorneys. Thanks more paper work to do, more distractions at the desk. If they can't provide the name of the Arrestee then they can sit and the Lobby. Maybe they can counsel the homeless population over at the Wentworth district lobby and assist them government housing. Wentworth district lobby is the worth in the City the Commander allow this B.S. Horrible work environment for desk crew and any law abiding citizen wanting to make a report.
Used to say this to lawyers who just showed up at the area after a family member called them, you can not invoke someone else’s rights for them. If the arrestee doesn’t want an attorney, then they can choose that option. Plus, the only time you need an attorney is when you are being asked questions after having been warned not to speak. This is just nonsense and I bet if you check, the same people who pay for BLM are footing the bill for these lawyers to sit in the station.
I say put their chair right next to the TB infested homeless sleeping by the lobby’s atm.
My guess is these sheisters will be given carte blanche throughout the Districts while the W/Cs and Desk SGT's hide under desks like Gerbil's.
Well this just tells me that there haven't been enough people shot or killed or victimized this month. This will certainly bring those numbers up. I have an idea! Why don't we just knock down the jail and put the Obummer library there. Problem solved and we can fund it with the money saved on Dodge & Darts command staff alone and put a little used property back in the mix..Shitcago FXXCKING JOKE...BAD ONE AT THAT!
Speaking of the grave . . .
Patient Assessment Chart for the City of Chicago

How about we put these lawyers in the city hall backroom or the ante rooms of the alderthieves to monitor all the backroom deals and stick up for the real victims in this shitty....the poor, broke, destroyed, abused and tired taxpayers
Why would anyone brought into the District need an attorney? Everyone of them already has the best representation you can get in Crook County. They have a team in Preckwinkle, Foxx and Dart. What more can they ask for.
The FOP should file a beef with the ARDC if the try to give legal advise to anyone that does not known their clients name and address.
They don't have a right to review any reports until they ask for them indiscovery in court.
The police department can restrict where they go in the station and they have no right to just wander around. There are other cases that they are not involved in that victims, witnesses, informants want privacy till trial.
When Area One used to get fax messages from some dim witted lawyers reading that they are representing certain detainees and that the detainee wantsto involve his right to remain silent we used to laugh and throw the fax in the circular file. They must have been John Marshall grads. HA, HA
Maybe for the first time in their lives these lawyers should do some good in the world and make themselves available for the victims of crime. The victims need advocates, since the prosecution side appears to have switched to advocating for criminals.
Ambulance chasing at its finest.
Make sure you do not bring any offenders through the front door. Bring them through the prisoner back door. Conduct your business quietly at the front desk. Place them in the lock up and let the lawyers unknowingly sit with the piss bums at the front.
Arrested individuals have a right to an attorney. Attorneys do not have a a right to speak with those under arrest.
Its simple, don't bring anyone into the station, stay fetal. Exception, signed complaints, so I give a fuck what these asshole attorney's have to say. Oh I almost forgot, blow me tiny dancers.
What a bunch of bottom feeders. They
will be pro bono unless the defendant
has a fifty in his sock. More useless
lawyers trying to justify their profession
and had no clout to get hired as a prosecutor.
These are not attorneys, they are activists.
Free legal advice isn’t free.
Taxpayers via Rahm EZ Money™️ settlements are paying.
It’s their obligation to give back to the communitay for helping out with Democrats campaign funding.
There should be 22 Aldermen stationed at every District to witness the “sea of thugs that converge” upon the pointless lockups.
And there should be just 22 Aldermanic Wards too.
48 AlderThieves sitting on their brains all day or going to Wrigley (can’t pay for parking) way too busy to handle a 3 hour shift, Mon - Fri.
Ever try to personally talk to an Alderman outside of a week night open forum?
Good luck.
Keep the Districts empty boys and girls, especially on the weekends.
Stay safe and work smart.
I am a WOL and here to tell you that unless an attorney can provide the name of his/her client they do not see anyone in custody. In fact, they have no right to know who is in custody unless they are referring to a particular person. They can sit in the lobby all day, they will not see anyone in the lockup simply because they demand to talk to "anyone in custody".
Make sure you leave these snowflakes in a locked room with their non-handcuffed future client and don't interfere. Don't argue with them just CALL ARDC AND LODGE COMPLAINTS. Complaints stay with them their whole career.
maybe at least they can prevent the beatings of arrestees.
Send them to 003 midnights! Save the strokes in the 06 cars a trip downtown after all their fuckups and questionable “work”
Unless they know the name of the person in custody, inform them since they have no business to conduct there they can exit the same way they entered.
Just don’t lock anyone up

Bring in extra-pungent piss bums for the lobby. Or even arrest one and let the lawyer have time alone with them in a small interview room.
I would like to see the conviction rate of the other 98% who didn't see a lawyer. Shit, the way cases are dismissed-- you don't need an attorney
The J/O arrestees get Miranda. If they choose to talk - that's on the J/O. IF they choose to be silent - oh well. If they demand an attorney, they get one appointed for them BY THE COURT when they appear.
If these activist attorneys aren't appointed as a Public Defender by the Court to represent a defendant, they can fuck off. Tell them that you need to know the name of the defendant they were appointed to represent, ask for the Court Order appointing them to the position. If they don't have it, tell them to get out. If they don't leave - arrest them for disorderly conduct. Let them sit there for as long as possible in the stinkiest cell until they have to be allowed to make a phone call, then let them make their call, and then RIGHT BACK INTO THE CELL. When that person shows up to get them out, make it take 15 or 20 minutes at least... Guaranteed that shit's not going to happen again...
OR, they'll pull some crap and try to get a blanket "John Doe Appointment" - which ought to be fun to see if a Judge buys into that bullshit. IF the Judge does, time for the FOP to file a lawsuit.
Fight these pricks every step of the way - just like they're fighting you.
More work for the desk. Fill out the 11.573, copy it, inventory it, send it to court with the court paperwork, etc etc. Will these be real lawyers, or those still in school with the 711 cards?
riddle me this batman? doesn't the department have a law unit? and why weren't these department members, many who have law degrees deployed to each district to assist the WOL and DSS in dealing with these public defenders and their fishing expedition. This was a pre planned event. No one at 35th st had they foresight to think of that?
Here's how it will work. The ASA will go out in lobby and grab one of the out of work attorneys and bring them in as she begins interviewing suspect. Willing to bet you won't have balls to stop that scenario. They have this all worked out in advance, great what text messages will allow you to get away with.
We had fewer calls in the day when the number was PO 5-1313. They had to switch it to 911. Then run classes when the folk couldn't find 11 on the keypad. Now it's 9-1-1.

You think ASA'a are at police station on a regular basis?
And you think they have the ability to come and go as they please? OK.
You clearly have no fucking clue what you are talking about. Stop trying to contribute because it's useless.
great idea!
legal counsel for the accused stands behind the arresting officer proofreading any report
before it's submitted for approval,
legal counsel for the accused stands behind the station supervisor and watch operations Lieutenant before it's approved;
afterwards the arrestee is brought into the attorney and arrestee interview room for the arrestee's initial consultation
before any Miranda warnings are read!
the beginning of the downward cycle!
You still get paid by the hour. if the department has decided to allow this, you don't have any say in it anyway.

Well Mr WOL...you'd better be keeping an Eye on the ASA's then. I wouldn't put it past them to try to slip a name to these attorneys on the sly.

Since this appears to be in response to a court order I don't see there is any real choice in the matter.
My guess is if you try games to keep defendants from getting legal help the judges are going to start tossing the cases because the police are ignoring the judicial order.
What difference does it make anyway? You either have a case or you don't. If you can't make the case why did you arrest them in the first place?
If an attorney comes into the station and demands to see his client and has the client's name, you must let the attorney see his client within a reasonable time. But, for some lawyer just hanging around the station and demanding to talk to every arrestee, well...that is just not going to work. Besides that, most stations allow you to bring in prisoners through the back door while the lawyers sit near the front door.

You're completely lost. No one is or was preventing anyone from seeing a lawyer. The overwhelming majority of arrestees don't need a lawyer until they get to court. That's why they don't have a lawyer visit them in the very limited time that they're in custody. The only games being played here are the ones the lawyers are playing. This is stunt to make it seem le the police are the bad guys once again.
The fact that the feds don’t step in is proof that there is no justice at any level in this country. Local politicians and judges are destroying law, order and derelict in their duties to uphold laws enacted by legislation. That being the case, just burn ILCS/MCC statutes and order police to not do anything. Their demands are clear, the federal government is giving tacit approval for this and yet there are still officers rolling the dice and making arrests. Just stop and give them the chaos, death and destruction they demand.
“OR, they'll pull some crap and try to get a blanket "John Doe Appointment" - which ought to be fun to see if a Judge buys into that bullshit. IF the Judge does, time for the FOP to file a lawsuit.”
Yeah that’ll be the day when flop files a lawsuit. You’re just one of the many loudmouth shittalkers on this Department. A real treat to drive around with probably the jerk off that want to jump out of the squad & fuck with every mope on walking down the street. Get over yourself bonestroke.

It does not seem appropriate for police to determine when and/or if an arrestee needs a lawyer. In any case, this appears to be the result of a judicial order which would seem to take it out of the purview of the PD to decide.
Don't arrest anyone. Makes for a long boring night for the legal eagles.

And again you're clueless. The police aren't deciding if someone needs a lawyer. Read the miranda warnings for yourself. Most arrestees are processed without ever having to be asked a single thing about their crime. If you aren't being interrogated, a lawyer is of zero use to you until you get to court. Let me give you a simple example, since you desperately need one: Walgreen's is holding a man they say was shoplifting. The police respond to the Walgreen's store and speak to the security, manager, employee, etc. The employee explains what happened, provides a picture of the items the person is accused of taking, a receipt to show the value, and usually a video from their surveillance cameras. The suspected shoplifter is arrested because the store employee signs a complaint, stating that this person violated the shoplifting law. That's it. End of story. The police don't have to ask the arrestee anything about the shoplifting incident. They just need the arrestee's name, date of birth, address, etc. for the paperwork. None of that requires a lawyer, nor is any of it changed by the presence of a lawyer. Sometimes a shoplifter will attempt to justify their crime or just flat out admit it and say they were hungry or stupid or whatever. If, for some reason, an officer decides to question the arrestee about the crime, and the arrestee says he wants a lawyer, that's the end of it. The questioning just stops, because it's unnecessary. The police already have enough to arrest the person. The questioning isn't necessary, and isn't happening, so a lawyer isn't needed. The arrestee doesn't call a lawyer and then sit down with the police and state's attorney to answer questions and discuss plea deals. This isn't tv. The arrestee is just processed without further questioning, and everything else is handled at court. Everyone is offered a phone call when they get to the lockup. If they want, they can use this phone call to contact a lawyer, and have that lawyer come visit them at the station. Most don't bother because they realize it is completely unnecessary and won't accomplish anything. Judicial order or not, this is a non-issue being turned into a news story because lawyers want more clients.
