Fran stirred from her slumber and noticed that an alderman was paying attention to alternative blogs who weren't involved in the Rahm-bargo of actual news happening downtown:
- The Chicago Police Department is scrambling to explain why the parents of a 21-year-old suburban man – who suffered a serious head injury after a Gold Coast attack by a mob of teenagers – were ignored for days when they tried to file a police report.
Local Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) said Friday the young man, whose family wishes to remain anonymous, is in the intensive care unit at Northwestern Memorial Hospital six days after the Saturday evening incident.
Hopkins went to the hospital this week and spent several hours talking to the parents. He also talked at length to the girlfriend who described the harrowing attack in detail.
After spending the day at Oak Street Beach, the girlfriend claims she and her boyfriend were walking back to their car at around 6 p.m. in the vicinity of the 900 block of North Lake Shore Drive when they were surrounded by “20-to-25 offenders who gathered around them,” Hopkins said.

Hopkins and Fran need to familiarize themselves with the three-part Chicago Magazine report from a few years back that outlined exactly how Chicago (taking a page from NYPD) killed crime on a regular basis, up to and including murders. Anyone remember what NYPD and CPD had in common during those times? A certain McMayoral candidate maybe?

As some posters on the other threads said killing crime is nothing new. In the 70s I worked 3 different districts in an Area. Certain exempts were emphatic on killing crime and put pressure on the patrolmen and sergeants. They would tear your report up and make you make a down graded report. If it was missed at that level it would be down graded by the commander's review officer. You really had to be a good report writer to get some case reports approved. When I got to the 'D', in the same Area, we had a great Area Commander who told us not to go along with the District Commanders who down graded. Little did those District Commanders know we were undoing their lies. I delighted in upgrading reports that met the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Guide parameters but were still down graded. As I went into supervision I still observed officers and other supervisors who down graded. Some had no idea that the UCR guide existed. And some would mix up crime reporting with the revised statutes.
Pretend it never happened and hope it won't is the upper management style. If they were to address it would mean they would have to do something about it.
He would expect better from our law enforcement? Sure, make it sound like the officers are the ones trying to cover it up. It's the politicians, Mr. Alderman... your people. Don't try to put this on the police.

Anyone who believes killing crime is new is simple. It has been going on since they started keeping stats. Having been OTJ 50 years ago, I remember we used to say the most effective tool we had to fight crime was the Bic pen.

Did the hospital call the police to report the incident? If so then there is a record of this call. Did the dispatcher assign a car to take a report or not? Records exist, a paper trail exists. I would not like to be surrounded by 20-25 young males ( or old males for that fact) and intimidated and robbed and assaulted. The paper does not have to say what race the offenders were. They were black, I am sure and these offenders attacked a white couple which makes this a racial hate crime. What would have happened if the victim was armed and shot a few of these criminals? Considering what our famous prosecutor, Foxx did when four black youths robbed a white guy in Bridgeport and one was shot by the armed victim, she released the others without charges, ignoring the felony rule. So Foxx is sayiing that four youths did not discuss robbing someone when they ventured into another neighborhood? The other three did not know that one of their friends was armed? The other three did not try to stop the robbery? The other three stayed behind to help the police and testify against their armed friend? I have lived in Chicago for 71 years.I would never go more than 2 miles or so inside the city limits. Chicago is not safe. I haven't been downtown in over 40 years. Why anyone would go downtown for anything, be it shopping, sports, or dining amazes me. They say that crime is down. Compared to what? To last year? Just wait a few more years, The rich will leave, real estate prices will crash, and the luxury condos in streeterville will become low income housing. That is the game plan. There is nothing

Hopefully, any victim of a similar nature will be able to defend their person and prevail, but any victim doing so should also be prepared for the Bernie Goetz shit-storm.
There are many, many progressives of all hues who will never believe the victim's use of deadly force was necessary, justified and lawful. How could the police write a report if they were never notified. Not true. CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi put out a statement today about the incident and included in his statement was “officers did respond and the district is reviewing everything”. So much for they were never notified

A battery was reported to them, then it was transferred to the CFD call taker. And Ambo was sent
for an given the heading of “Battery Victim” as the patient was transported the OEMC was notified
of the transported and was updated on the OEMC Event number which was also updated on the CPD
Number.
TRUST ME the ball was dropped between the CPD, NWMH &/or OEMC.

As a member of "the community" , I would like to thank all the PO's who risk their lives everyday dealing with undesirables. Real CPD PO's do not receive enough credit for their hardwork. I make this statement without a microgram of sarcasm.

Retired. Was downtown walking the "Magnificent Mile" a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon. I remember always seeing cops everywhere, sometimes one an every corner helping with traffic, plus the constant flow of patrol and tac cars. Not on this day. I walked a couple of miles and did not see evn one squad car. I got the impression that CPD gave up.
