A Tale of Two Shootings
- Last Sunday, a 59-year-old woman on the West Side of Chicago was killed by a would-be carjacker. The felon walked up to the driver’s side of the car, which was being driven by a 71-year-old man, and pulled his gun. The senior citizen refused to surrender the vehicle and kept driving. The would-be carjacker opened fire at the car, striking the woman in the head and killing her.
The night before, on the South Side, a Chicago officer killed a 37-year-old man whom the officer’s patrol partners had observed behaving in a manner suggesting that he was carrying a gun. The officers tried to question Harith Augustus, and he appeared to pull something from his wallet, according to police body-camera footage, possibly his firearms owner-identification card. One officer tried to grab Augustus (the police report said that he became combative), but he pulled away and ran into the street, where he appeared to reach for the gun holstered on his right hip. One of the officers opened fire and killed him. Augustus’s gun was recovered at the scene.
True to script, the officer-involved shooting sparked violent street anarchy on Saturday night, instigated by Black Lives Matter, the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, and other anti-cop activist groups. Protesters threw rocks and bottles, some filled with urine, at officers. Four officers were injured. Chants included “How do you spell racist? CPD [Chicago Police Department],” and “Murderers.” Protests have continued, drawing intense local media and political attention. “This department is racist . . . and we’re tired of it,” said one of the organizers.
There were no protests against the taking of the carjacking victim’s life. Carjackings have nearly tripled in Chicago since 2015, averaging two per day in 2017 and close to that in 2018. In August 2016, officers tried to pull over a car involved in an earlier carjacking; someone inside the car opened fire and hit one of the officers in the face. The shooter was on parole for attempted armed robbery. In January 2017, a teen carjacker ambushed a 34-year-old mother in an alleyway where she had been parking her car. His initial blow to her head with his gun was so severe that it temporarily blinded her. “Quit trying to kick back, you white bitch,” the assailant said as he pistol-whipped her. Before the attack, the mother had noticed a van suspiciously idling in the alleyway, but decided to continue about her business, likely second-guessing herself about “racial profiling.”

The latter sells air time or the media. The woman's death means nothing to those personalities.
The Mayor and Superintendent turned the public against us. Hell; the Superintendent is a expressway protester. The Police have become the lowest respected group there is. We are the mutant city workers no likes.
Very well written article. To bad more people will not read it. To bad things are headed down hill so fast it's not even funny anymore. At this point I will never willingly go into the city of Chicago, and yes I will be very cautious around all people. It might save my life.

True, the media fans the flames for clicks and revenue every single time. But where was the press release and fake tears by Rahm, his Sup puppet, the Faker, and the aldermen? Did Eddie go see the family and speak out on this tragedy, laying blame where it belongs? None of them care about this carjacking victim shot dead, and we can be certain of that. A fish rots from the head down.

The "young mother" mentioned in the article who didn't want to "racial profile" the people / folks in the van that led to her car-jacking and pistol-whipping sounds similar to the Ozinga lady who let her attacker through a locked fire escape at the Trader Joe's parking garage.
I've dated more than a few liberal white and black women in Chicago. You know what? I've been pulled - at least 4 times - off of our walking direction to avoid black men loitering or otherwise hanging out in unlit spaces. Typically nothing gets said in these cases - because if these women had to explain themselves - they'd be owning-up to their "racial profiling".
I don't care. They were acting in their own safety and their actions were aligned with that of self-preservation.
People need to pay attention to their guts and less about what their conscious is telling them. Thinking too much allows all of the crap information we are flooded with to cloud our natural judgement. Their DNA has not survived 40,000 of evolution by second guessing feelings rooted in self-preservation.
Am I saying one should "racially profile"? Yes, I am. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck - it is a duck.

Stange to hear a black woman in Chicago advocating the position of the NRA. As you say, good people carry guns for protection of themselves and others. This is the position of the NRA. (Of course they think that people who carry guns illegally should be sent to prison, but apparently you don’t subscribe to that part of their agenda.)
I’ve carried a concealed weapon for years. People who have concealed weapons permits have the responsibility to follow a set of rules, one of which is don’t run from the police and don’t reach for your gun when stopped by the police. Simple rules.
When I get stopped by the police I always mention that I have a gun and they always ask that I surrender the weapon to them during the course of the investigation. I get my ticket and my gun back.
Simple rules.
The only group that day in and day out trying to stop the holocaust occurring in the black areas of Chicago is the Chicago Police Department.
They think that people shouldn’t carry guns concealed on their person in public.
You and I disagree with the CPD. You, I and the NRA think everyone should be armed.
Remember that the NRA was established by Republican Union Army veterans to train black people to use guns to be able to protect themselves from the KKK.
You don’t seem to concerned about the number of black people killed by other black people. I guess we now have to train black people to use guns to protect themselves from other black people.
I am not a member of the NRA, but now that I see a respected member of the media has explained their position in terms that I can understand I feel bad about not showing my support.

Have you ever wished that you could unsee something? I was watching local news on the 4th of July, and they showed parades from all over the area. They had the film of prickwrinkle in a forth of July parade, dressed in a light green robe and crown, carrying a green torch like the Statue of Liberty! She seemed to be having a good time....
