Rahm and Special Ed are sure quick to grab credit for burning out the Department:
- Chicago’s five most violent police districts will get 600 additional weekend officers — and police will continue to break up large unsanctioned parties — “until we’re comfortable things are stabilized,” Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Monday.
The costly overtime that is difficult to sustain was hastily authorized to prevent a repeat of the bloodbath last weekend that left 71 people shot, 12 of them dead — and it worked.
Another hot summer weekend came and went without a single homicide and 33 shootings, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
During an unrelated news conference on CTA security, Johnson was asked how long the additional attention and manpower would last at a time when the Fraternal Order of Police has warned of burnout by officers whose requests to take time off have been refused.
Pretty much every field unit in the Department has been told that they aren't getting two days off - they're getting one until the beginning/middle of September. Districts are hiring people back on their RDO's.
- The Chicago City Council is considering an ordinance that would punish employers who don’t have crystal balls. It’s a boneheaded proposal.
Are you a boss? Do you manage people? Do you run a business? Pay attention.
The ordinance would require Chicago employers to post work schedules for their employees at least two weeks in advance. Employers would be required to pay their employees for at least one hour extra if the schedule changed or work was added or subtracted. Companies also could face fines of $500 for each employee affected in each pay period if they fail to comply. If employers make changes with 24 hours’ notice or less to on-call workers, the workers would have to be compensated.
Amazingly, the City Council (and Rahm) think that they know how to run a business, despite having zero practical experience in the field, and after spending Chicago into insolvency. Even more hilarious, the "rules" they're attempting to put in place against businesses are those that the Department is currently demanding officers submit to, despite family plans, vacations, appointments or just living life away from this grind.

I’m sure there are plenty of officers out there that would happily volunteer their time off for some overtime payment. Others probably don’t want to and would rather spend their days off doing their own thing with family and friends. I think we should instill some sort of program that allows officers to volunteer for overtime deployment in these troubled districts with such high crime rates such as 002, 003, 004, 005, 006 007, 009, 011 and 015. Especially in the summer. Some kind of...i don’t know...violence reduction initiative, or VRI for short. Would seem like the perfect solution!

Not sure what district/unit you're in but people are tripping over each other to sign up for the OT. I passed on it cause I had plans. Otherwise i dont mind making some extra cash. Guys on days even botched cause they couldnt work more. You tell people they could work all there RDOs they will.

I had a watch cmdr that gave me a hard time about using time. One time I submitted a PAR form to take a day I wanted without pay. He had a baby and stopped refusing my slips. If you are too much in debt to give up a day`s pay, you don`t deserve a day off till your spending is under control.

The detective unit we actually have one? With the clearance rate of under 15% every last person in that unit should be demoted because even though detectives are put there as patrolman and they still are patrolman even though they call themselves detectives it’s time that they get them ordered dumped the whole unit revamp it and redo it all they do is take a lot of overtime money and they do not do their jobs simple as that time for that unit to be gone! The mayor had a great idea along with Eddie of putting all of them in uniform driving around and marked police vehicles which they have already bought it’s about time more police presence On the street they can answer some of the calls along with swat they can answer calls in the district where they all belong enough for the nonsense waste of space waste of time put them where they belong where they can be useful answering radio calls!

An interesting unreported stat is buried in the past two weekends - the number of shooting incidents when from 40 with 75 total shot down to 30 with 38 total shot. The lack of unacceptable, multiple mass shootings kept the mayoral tears at bay, for this past weekend anyway.

I was talking to my brothers the other day telling them abut this blog and how they should read it to see how great we had it on the west coast.
Between the five of us we have over 150 years of law enforcement. Other than major forest fires and earthquakes we can't recall any cop we know who had their scheduled days off cancelled. We can't believe your working conditions.
Come out here. The politics in the major cities are fucked, because they are run by democrats, but never-the-less the cops have it a hell of lot better than CPD.
You work 30 years in one retirement system, start pulling your pension, and then walk across the street and go to work for a department in the other retirement system and do another ten or so. Retire as an officer/deputy at 60 with a pension of $140-150,000 a year. . After you pull the plug you sell your house and move to the mountains or the south west and live the good life.
Stop hitting your head against the wall. It's not good for your head and it damages the wall.

This is ridiculous. How is the desk Sgt supposed to do his station/lock up checks, go to the bathroom, have lunch, talk to arrestees? The desk cannot be left without a sworn member on it. What if somebody comes in shooting, or even just if a domestic comes in and one is battering the other? The civilians can't do anything about that. It should always be at least two sworn members of any rank in case a use of force incident happens.
Dear McDonald's, Motorola and all the other companies who relocated from the suburbs to the city: SUCKERS! Wait until the city (and then the county) hits you with a head tax or municipal income tax -- and then you have to pay for more security because your employees are getting mugged outside the corporate offices.
How about with all this "BURNOUT" occurring we take leave of the rules that officers must comply with in regard to COPA, ACLU, the revrends….etc , it's only fair that the public suffers for the abuse the officers and their families are being put through to save their unappreciative asses!!!

People cry about lack of manpower and burnout. Life is short and who is with your family when you are working your RDOs. Get your spending under control and stop buying toys. If you have to work, make sure you are adding to your kids college funds so they do not have to work like you are.
How about the useless employee that changes the schedule at the last minute by not showing up to work? You can put a schedule up two weeks in advance and it still won't stop these lazy Fucks from coming in late or not showing up at all. Thus harming your business. What's the fine going to be for the employee? These Liberals are morons.

016 is being destroyed on midnights with catalytic converters thefts, cars are having all 4 tires taken off and leaving the cars left on blocks and Jeeps are getting ripped off. Some have had all 4 doors removed All happening from midnight to 6AM, been going on forever and no arrests. In a few cases the offenders have returned 2 or 3 times within a week to the same area , I mean within a block or two
