Someone with a brain was actually thinking down at HQ and quickly sent out an e-mail in Special Ed's name to head off a complete stand-down of activity and the almost certain FOP lawsuit:
- The agreement that was reached requires that beginning July 1, 2019, CPD officers will identify themselves by beat number to notify OEMC of investigatory stop or arrest occurrences in which pointing a firearm at a person occurs. No additional reports for the officer will be required.
To be clear, this notification requirement in no way prohibits you from pointing a firearm at a person when your safety or the safety of another is in jeopardy. Please also know that we fought incredibly hard to obtain exceptions to the notification requirement. One exception is that CPD officers will not be required to notify OEMC of any unholstering or display of a firearm, including having a firearm in a "low ready" position.
As numerous people have already pointed out, this probably won't remain as it is - there's no accountability, no tracking, no way to make officers pay for having the audacity to actually draw and point a weapon at a criminal. COPA, the ACLU, and assorted other lib-tards will need something to justify their existence and further demonize the police. It's coming.

I have no doubt that if you are under investigation for anything, and COPA or the IAD discover you actually unholstered your weapon, not even pointing it at someone, it will be an additional allegation against you. As a retired supervisor, I have seen many investigations where the original allegation was not sustained, but other allegations were made during the course of the investigation and those were sustained. I think the police critics know full well that the department has screwed many cops unnecessarily over the years, but their results were overturned by arbitrators due to a variety of factors. That is why they want the contract changed to suit their needs; i.e. sticking it to you

I would not be surprised that when an officer notifies communications about pointing his weapon, the dispatcher will notify the watch and the watch commander's report will make an entry.

OT: so the feds get 2 cops for selling crash report info. Now how about the commander of 007 stealing more than a $100,000 from the Social Security administration. How long until we have this? I've seen similar ones that send a text message to the station saying you've removed your gun from it's holster. Big Brother is here. I know I say this often and I know we will always need young bloods to carry the torch after we retire but I really question new guys wanting to come on. Now you can't retire until 55 and the pension is a mess. Who signs up for this job? Most of the cops I know with older kids don't push them to be the police anymore. Actually it was a decent move. If you point your gun at someone you should do an ISR anyway. Low ready still does not require a report.

I'm all for bashing our "command" staff, but I was behind a female commander at St. Jude's. Had to be from HQ because I've never seen her before. I didn't see any other's, but there was one. When we're getting some BS jammed down our throat, the podium has a line of exempts waiting to get on. No line, no waiting at this wake.

If you've ever worked afternoons or midnights, if you've ever worked a questionable area, if you've ever actually stopped a vehicle (especially when dude hops out of said vehicle) or someone (s) on the street for being suspicious (yes, with rs to articulate pc') or have responded some in progress calls. There are many tactically, justifiable times for officer and/or public safety to draw your weapon. I was trained it can go right back in its holster same thing as cuffs they can always come off.

Dont know. Over 33 years at least a dozen times, maybe two dozen, once I made it go bang. And I was no heavy use of force guy. They were all armed, or I thought they were armed, but mostly they WERE armed. Robberys, killers, shooters, showing knives, riding dirty, crowd of gangsters who were following me to jump and disarm me. They'd be treated to the business end of a .45 .
But I guess I was just a cry baby. I tell you one thing, as a former cry baby, nobody would see the end of it now because I wouldn't give a shit about doing Police work or having a set of balls. There would be no more charging thru the projects looking for the shooter. I'd call SWAT for that, or some other clouted unit cause I didn't have any.

I worked in 003 as a supervisor several years ago when Commander Jones was in charge. It was a disgrace to the rest of the Chicago Police Dept. The female caps Sgt there had to be one of the most ignorant people I had ever met. After a run in with her that forced Jones to make a decision to either back a higher ranked supervisor or this idiot he told her to avoid contact with me at all costs. I will say the 3rd watch desk crew did a good job but were constantly dealing with other patrol officers who were blatantly racist to white officers. The grooming standards were a joke and attempts to enforce them by supervisors were not supported by the f*cktard Jones. It was a horrible place to work
Then the questions will be why did you pull your weapon and your partner didn't? Then they will grill the partner on why he didn't and do you think your partner should have or shouldn't and why. Here it comes officers. Be ready. You were warned and they will still go out and foot car chase for weed and auto theft. Let them go. Save yourself
