- Two veteran Chicago police officers have been indicted on federal charges alleging they took thousands of dollars in kickbacks from the owner of an attorney referral service in exchange for inside information on victims from traffic crash reports.
Wow. You guys made what, $7,000 each over three years. At a job that already paid you $75,000 with seniority enough to get just about all the overtime you could want.

And the guy at the other end will always give you up. A cop is a trophy, and you two are about to be mounted on a federal attorney's wall.

They took in $7000 over 3 years. That gets them an extra $2,333/yr for 3 years. That averages around $195/m extra walking around money. What, they didn't make any O.T. in those years? No Special Employment available?
Now it's bye-bye job, medical benefits and pension if convicted, which looks a certainty.

They did give EJ the heads up. That is why he was TOLD to retire. No one leaves with 30+ years at 54 years of age. No medical and basically a Sgts pension.
They must have forgotten to take their annual ethics training.

I used to buy all my pens from them on Lake Shore Dr. Much more expensive than Walgreens now that I think about it......
there are crooks in every line of work. they all think they are too smart to get caught. at least this time it wasn't just covered up, like it usually has been in the past, and for that matter, still is if one has just the tiniest amount of clout. if nothing else they can serve as warnings to others who might think they are smart enough to get away with such things.

Most likely that is just all the feds bothered to prove. That's plenty for a felony conviction and that's what the feds are after. Why waste time and resources to look for the rest of it when you have plenty for what you need for a conviction.

I dont see the issue. It was a courtesy that the hotels were giving to officers. He wasnt doing anything illegal. The feds had nothing on CPD so they made an issue were they could. Let's face it I'm sure the feds have never taken a free coffee from anyone....right.
I remember Summerdale, 20th District, now that was a real scandal. As far as LSD and traffic guys. I was always careful about coming home to Rogers Park from Rush Street on the weekends I would eat at Pixley and Eleres and drink a lot of coffee and be sorta sober before hitting LSD, this was in the early 60's. I remember O.W. Wilson. Truth be told if you are making 100k a year and are a greedhead you deserve to get busted. Most working people in Chicago make far less money than cops and have no benefits, you do the crime you do the time.
