Someone needs to send a priest or Chaplin to bless the entire 5th district. So much sorrow in one year.

RIP Officers. My heart hurts with your passing. Please keep all the responding personnel and Detectives that were on the scene in your prayers. In 2002 I worked on the case with PO Benjamin Perez. The memories still haunt me to this day. I am sure all that worked this case will be equally affected.

The politicians will come and “pay respects” and say kind words and use the bodies of these two dead heros to further their campaigns. There is nothing politicians like more than a fallen officer’s body to campaign upon. It makes me sick.
For those officers that are alive, working everyday, they want to “stick it in our ear” as Rahm so eloquently put it. They want to Monday morning quarterback every decision we make. They will prosecute against us to the full extent of the law, but decline charges against those that do harm to us.
Dead officers equal opportunity for the corrupt politicians who have spent our pension funds, created unsafe work environments, allowed police haters to dictate policy and painted us as the villains to pander for votes.
Officers at the funerals should turn their backs on the mayor, county board president and states attorney just as they have turned their back on every living police officer.

There are no words to express the anquish felt for this loss. It is a happening that becomes more difficult to deal with each time.

To the family of each of these men, I ache for you

To my brothers & sisters in 005, I ache for you.

To those employees of the train service who also were simply doing their job, I ache for you.

To the, there are so many, CFD, Chaplins, ME's office, medical personnel, funeral home personnel, St Rita's personnel, the good, kind & decent neighbors of these two beautiful souls. The teachers and friends who will assist the children in a life adjustment that no child should know. My thanks to you.

To all those in Oak Lawn who have stood by the CPD many times, thank you. Oak Lawn is tuely a class act.

Who counsels the counselor?

WGN, you far exceed the others, thank you.

G d, we are sinking fast down here, PLEASE help. Amen

Our hearts at OEMC are broken for you all. All I ever want at the end of a shift is to know everyone on the zone and elsewhere got home safe to their families. Please know we support you and send prayers your way. The face of Crystal Jimenez clutching that flag is burned into my mind and my heart as well as those of Erin and Grace Bauer. I know I will feel the same about the families of Officers Gary and Marmolejo. Years before I started with the city, I remember seeing Officer Doffyn's daughter as I stood with other citizens along the streets of Our Lady of Mercy Church and I often find myself calculating how old she would be now ( 32 ) and what she has missed with her father. Please take care of yourselves and know those who support you far outnumber those who don't.

As a Chicago Police Officer I can say that we often feel alone out here. As if it’s just us and our families that understand this crazy life and profession. I want to thank every non police officer who has commented or sent kind words, be it on this blog or elsewhere. You’re the ones that keep us going and allow us to go on doing what we do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, we appreciate the good law abiding citizens of this city regardless of race, ethnicity, etc. contrary to what the evil media wants you to believe.

I read your comment and then went and watched their coverage, I do not watch them much, if at all, because, it is CBS. However that being said, I do not think there was anything wrong with what they did - they presented the complete picture, at least for now, on how this all came about.

We cannot have it both ways...as cops we tend to bitch, a lot, and about anything and everything.

That was not warranted here, IMO, because it is better for people to completely understand what had happened. So you can prevent goofs like the attention seeking whore up north that said these two brave souls were idiots for being killed.

Take you anger and rage and use it and direct it towards him, not at CBS this time.

Some one please tell that asshat not to attend the funeral of these fallen brothers. I saw her leaving the Jimenez funeral out the side door before his casket was even being placed into the vehicle after the end of the funeral. It took everything not to call her a hypocrite for showing up.

What's happening to police and the city in general is horrific. The mission to protect an American city has become a political farce to win hearts and minds. And police have become fodder. All the tributes, services, and condolences in the world will never change the fact that the city will do nothing to protect police or NON-criminal citizens.

I've known coppers who lost their lives in the line of duty, and every passing year each tragedy becomes a tagline about "optics" or "public trust".

Each tragic loss of a copper is accompanied by an equally tragic loss of will for the city to do the right thing, and rid us of crime.

Why is it still allowed that the bosses, who are only there for the dog and pony show are reserved the first several rows in the church. My wife was instructed that if something happens to me they along with the mayor get the last few rows. Only select other politicians are allowed inside. The rest of the police haters can watch with the other officers outside.

I watched the funeral on TV as I have the flu and saw a female officer in uniform wearing her hat in the most hideous way I ever saw in 35 years. She must have a bunch of braids piled high. The said part is that no boss had the balls to approach her and correct it. I saw it at about 9:30 am as channel 9 was scanning the crowds. I'm totally EMBARRASSED.

My family knows the politicians are not allowed to speak at my funeral. I want them there so I can inconvienance them one last time but they will not be invited to speak. I've listened to their bullshit more than I ever wanted, so I'm not going to allow them to direct their bullshit and self serving, glad-handed rhetoric to my family. I'll take their basket of flowers, I like flowers, and I'll make them stand there and look at me while I lay there resting peacefully. It's a few moments they wont be screwing the City up any more than they ready have, and a few minues when they won't be able to plan their profiteering. But sush--no speaking! The priest can speak of the tidbits he heard last night at the wake, the superintendant can speak of my heroism, and maybe someone else can talk for five minutes and try and explain why fifty percent of the time I'm a great guy, and the other fifty either an asshole or batshit crazy, or an equal portion of each. Good luck with that. Oh, and someone please remember to smirk a loaded handgun in the casket with me, I'm sure I'll have to stop in purgatory for a brief stay and might need it, especially since there might be a few politicians there trying to double-talk their way out of going to hell. Those snakes will say or do anything, so I'll need the pistol to fend them off, save myself from their vileness or make one last stand between their evil and the gates to the heavens.

We’re you reading the same article? The CBS Chicago article I read described in graphic detail the physical injuries sustained by both officers. Details that I’m sure the family doesn’t want to read, and details the public doesn’t need to know. Pretty classless and in poor taste.

Couldn’t agree more. All that was necessary was they were struck by a train going 60 mph. Nothing more needs to be said. If you ever worked a wagon and handle a victim from an el or train crash you already know. And if you didn’t but have half a brain you know
