Melting! I'm Melting!

  • Mary Miller lived in Illinois for all of her 44 years until July, when she and her family left their north suburban Wauconda home to resettle in Florida.

“It’s taxes. It’s corruption. It’s politics,” she said. “And I don’t mean Republicans or Democrats, it’s all of them.”

Miller wasn’t alone in her departure from the state. Illinois has declined in population for the fifth year in a row, losing an estimated 45,116 residents from 2017 to 2018, according to the latest Census Bureau data released Wednesday.

That was a greater drop than the previous year, when Illinois lost about 40,000 people — as well as its spot as the fifth-largest state in the nation to Pennsylvania.
Illinois remains on track to lose two Congressional seats following the 2020 census, which equals even less political pull in DC and nationwide. Even more worrisome is these are actual taxpayers moving out.

Gonna need to fond a way to get tax money out of community pretty soon. Maybe a tax on all welfare payments should be implemented. 47 thousand taxpayers leaving state this year will be about 47 million less in taxes collected. Fat Cat JB will have to make that up and then some on the backs of those fool taxpayers left. Predict the number leaving next year will be 60+ thousand after new taxes reveled. Get ready to write some very large checks to city and state, they are coming for your money.

Forty seven thousand leaving the bankrupt state of Illinois, that's would be a pretty fair sized city. Just imagine all the taxes a city of forty seven thousand could generate. School system, police force, city council Sherrie department Streets and sanitation depth. Gone all gone. Oh well state and city didn't need their money anyway. LOL.

Good to see there were at least 47 thousand people in Illinois left with a brain. My advise is get out while the getting is good. Sell the house and rent if you have to stay, before the next round of real estate tax hikes. Make an active plan B for life after Illinois. Cost of living is a lot lower in many places so a job paying less might be a good start on the plan B. Less Crime, no traffic hassles, friendly English speaking people, free toll ways, good schools are just some of the perks available away from the city. Yea you will miss your favorite restaurants and some friends but you can still visit from time to time. Guarantee your stress level will be way down. Then you can do what I do and that is read SCC and laugh about all the mayhem and drama that Chicago has to offer.

You nailed it with that last line - actual tax payers moving out. I’m actually pleased when I hear about non-working (better still, government aid receiving) people leaving Chicago and Illinois. But having “legit” people who pay their taxes, keep their kids out of trouble, and overall don’t act as a drag on society up and leave - it means the ship is sinking.

Get out while your home has some value. Sell it to the next sucker.

Another thought - when you look at the migration from Europe in the early 1900’s, from Asia in the mid-1900’s, and the exodus now from Central America, corrupt governments and lawlessness are often the cause. Gosh, that sounds a lot like Chicago.

I am departing Chicago, Cook County and Illinois!

Why?

The taxes in all three political entities will be going up drastically because the Democrats love to spend money but refuse to cut spending, especially for those whose votes they need to stay in power. The first shoe to fall will be when JB raises the price of gasoline 30 cents a gallon early in 2019. But that is just the start of the tax increases.

Crime in Chicago and Cook County is exploding because Preckwinkle and her disciples: Foxx, Evans and Dart have all signed on to "restorative justice". The criminals are now looking for victims in neighborhoods and suburbs that were previously considered safe because they know they will receive a break from those in power.

The time to move out has come and I feel sorry for those who remain behind.

Here is the problem coppers are always saying "as soon as I retire we are out of here," then a year goes bye, they are still here, you say "thought you were moving out of state,' and the reply "soon" we are 'looking." then 5 years gone oops they are still here you say "haven't found anything yet?' and they say "we are still looking," you know the rest and they stay here!

We live my wife and 1 older son in Garfield ridge, been retired 3+ years we thought the same about moving out due to high taxes and the crime, but then you realize your in your sixties, we have some of the best hospitals, people from all over the world come here in Chicago for care, look at University of Chicago, northwestern, Loyola, Christ (top heart center), and many more this becomes more important as we age.

Then look at transportation, we can just about walk to Midway airport and go anywhere we want, we have CTA, a train in summit, and grocery stores close again as you age this become important. Then in your sixties making new friends, what do you hang at bingo halls and wait for the grim reaper to pay a visit? We can be downtown in 20 minutes on the train (I know so much crime that is why millions upon millions rely on it every year), We put alarm on the house, and security type cameras, (Oh and cameras and security system wiring are becoming optional on many new homes throughout the country btw), we have great neighbors an active neighborhood watch (Thank you to Al caccitolo for implementing this), many police officers and firefighters, plus many city workers, plus state police living here, and many new police families moving in.

At 65 we can freeze our property taxes, get 1/2 water rates (free sewer charges),1/2 price city sticker, major discounts on transit so think about this! Another thing to watch is all the investment into homes, all the major remodeling, Byrne school huge addition, neighbors that care, New restaurants finally opening, Danny pizza, Healthy substance Latin kitchen look inside looks like Lincoln park inside beautiful excellent food vegan, docs saloon, coming soon Q BBQ finally things are changing for the better!

So for all the "I am getting out of here coppers" wish you the very best and hopefully your not like my 3 recent neighbors a fireman who lived in Arizona for 3 years,2 coppers 1 who moved to Florida for 2 years, and the other copper back from Nashville TN, after 1 year all bought back in area, 1 guy the fireman tried to buy his old home back the new owner said "sorry" he offered 20K more than the guy paid but he ended up buying across the street from me and spent over 100K rehabbing it!

So go ahead and bash me but we are staying, and to the coppers spewing the bullshit and telling people "you better move out soon neighborhood is changing" please stfu. Lastly we have the Southwest home equity insurance program the office is located on 65th and Lavernge for an appraisal of about $100.00 they will give you a guarantee on the value of your home which is minimum the purchase price sometimes more and you will get that amount if you take any loss on selling, the program has been in operation over 35 years and they have multi-millions is assets, every taxpayer in the district pays a minimal amount on property taxes and as long as your a member and join your covered, so that alleviate the fear of losing value!

God bless the police!

At local republican organization meetings I've noticed over the years about how the conversations have changed between people who don't know each other very well. The conversation has morphed into, "When are you leaving?" instead of the casual person talking about how they might leave this state. It seems that EVERY SINGLE PERSON has an exit strategy out of this state. These are producers, not takers. Most pay over 12K a year in property taxes and have had enough.

>>>>>> 'Illinois remains on track to lose two Congressional seats following the 2020 census, which equals even less political pull in DC and nationwide'. <<<<<<

Not only losing Two congressional seats, but in addition, Illinois will be losing Electoral College Votes -- which are determined by congressional seats (plus one per us senator) and as such, a state's population.

For the 2016 election Illinois had 20 EC Votes. From 1912 to 1940 Illinois had a an all-time high of 29 Electoral College Votes. We had 26 EC Votes when Reagan won illinois in 1980, and 24 in '88 when Bush Sr won IL, the last republican to carry Illinois.

And a state is not going to be drawing new residents to its largest city when Pee Shields have to be installed on the CTA's EL Station Platforms!

I recall the good old days when the CTA's biggest concern were the 'No Spitting' signs on the buses. Now, it's 'No Peeing In The Corner'.

I grew up in Chicago, the corruption was just part of life. It wasn't until the corruption hit hard at the police department, that it affected me. It was as if a dark cloud of negativity formed over all of CPD. All the cheaters, all the people who bought their promotions, all the political BS just wore me down. I loved my city of Chicago. I miss my city of Chicago, but I don't miss the corruption, I don't miss the taxes I don't miss the crime. I left that state for a better job opportunity, and was fortunate to be able to retire. I now live out of state in a gated community and can put Christmas decorations out on my lawn without fear of them being stolen. I now have a great job where I'm appreciated, and earn double the salary I was earning with CPD. I feel horrible when I hear about young Chicago police officers getting hurt or killed running around trying to do their jobs mainly to impress bosses who don't even deserve to be bosses. These young hard-working officers and even some old timers are risking life and limb out there and they have to report to bogus supervisors. And let's face it, that is what you are, a bogus supervisor! If you got answers to any promotion test, if you bought a promotion, if you slept with somebody for the promotion, if you are related to somebody, or are buddies with somebody and were promoted because of it, you are a bogus supervisor! You don't deserve the title, you don't deserve the pension, or any additional "meritorious promotions", you don't deserve anything other than your true title... BOGUS SUPERVISOR!!! And your bogus promotion should be called out by everyone who knows. None of you bogus supervisors should show your face at these funerals and wakes for these fallen officers. You should find a hole and hide in SHAME!

Change we can believe in thank you President Trump:

Trump signs $867 billion farm bill, tightening rules for food stamp recipients
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-signs-867-billion-farm-bill-tightening-rules-for-food-stamp-recipients

Excerpt:
The bill, which the president says will provide “crop insurance” and emergency funding in “times of disaster,” also calls for “immediate welfare reform.”

“Millions of able-bodied working age adults continue to collect food stamps without working or even looking for work. Our goal is to move these Americans from dependence to independence and into a good paying job and rewarding career,” Trump said before signing the bill.

“Therefore I have directed Secretary [Sonny] Perdue to use his authority under the law to close work requirement loopholes in the food stamp program. Under this new rule, able-bodied adults with without dependents will have to work or look for work in order to receive their food stamps,” Trump continued.

Currently, able-bodied adults ages 18-49 without children are required to work 20 hours a week to maintain their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

*Ok pos dope slingers get yo ass to work this will save taxpayers billions, now stop aid to illegally here criminals next we are on a roll God bless the USA Trump making America great again!

No, the grass is greener ANYWHERE than Illinois. We moved to Texas after I retired and do not regret it one bit. No state income tax, they don't tax my pension, groceries are exempt from taxation. And gas prices, last week when I filled up the cost per gallon was $1.59/gallon. Oh and the weather. While it does get cold at night during winter, around the mid 30's, no snow or ice to deal with. And the daytime temps at this time of year averages around mid 50's to lower 60's.

So yes, get the heck out when you can.

To the coppers planning on moving out of Chicago area, my advise is to try living there for 6 months. I retired to Missouri 4 years ago,it's not for everyone! Just trying to help my brothers in blue.maybe I'm sentimental, but I really miss Chicago.

For what it is worth, I moved to western rural Montana 21 years ago. I have 3 grandkids and friends back in Chicago. I have not been back in 8 years and I don't ever want to return. I have never been sorry I left Chicago. I would not be among the living if I had not left. I am now 75 years old in Chicago I would be prey, here in Montana I'm just an old man that when I go out people open doors and ask if they can help with my packages. Screw living with sociopaths and savages of every stripe. I am sad to what happened to the City of my youth. Merry Christmas, Cheers. P.S. Every time someone helps me when I'm out and about I say, "thank you, I am so grateful I live in a civilized place."

There are no "true" Republicans in this state. we are the canary in the coal mine for the inevitable public pension apocalypse...

hopefully the american people will SNAP and march on washington...to BURN it down.

because the more abuse you take...the more you will get.

we only need 3% to make it happen

Been retired 12 years and still reside in Chicago. To each his own and the grass is not always greener on the other side as the retiree from Missouri states. My neighborhood on the northwest side and the far northwest side is loaded with retirees from police and fire
Your comment about I wouldn’t be among the living if I hadn’t left Chicago and I would be prey is absurd
There are probably 5000 retirees living in Chicago and I assure you we are not dead or prey
That being said I’m glad you are doing well and enjoying your retirement in Montana. Everyone should enjoy retirement in the area where they choose to retire
